Chapter 96: Staying Dead

Honestly, I accepted the fact that I was beaten by the Lich. It made sense, you know? Like a kite being blown up in a hurricane. It's something you can't really fight unless you're prepared for it, something I honestly didn't do over the course of these 230+ years I've lived. It's something I'm glad I had a chance to regret, as the Lich was unable to finish me off.

Over the course of the next month, I lay upon the pillow, my body slowly regenerating from the remains of the top part of my skull. A servant, luckily, noticed this transformation and promptly notified Duke and Emma, who came to see me not long after. The conversation went a little something like this:

"My Lord, can you do us a favor and stay dead for a bit longer?" The Duke's words left my newly regenerated jaw hanging open as I observed his face, which seemed scrunched up in deep contemplation. My body, just a head, torso, and one singular fully grown arm at the current moment, emphasized the absurdity of the situation.

"What do you mean?" I asked, feeling slightly indignant at his words. But not wanting to judge too quickly, I inquired about his meaning. Now having gained back control of my magic, I awaited an answer. However, it was Emma who responded. She brought out dozens of papers and letters, immediately beginning to read them aloud to me.

"I, Lord of Sol, will not stand for this! To slay the king, our protector! I and my people have rallied and offer a contingent of 1000 young and well-trained men and women as soldiers for the army in order to avenge the king." The first letter read, but then she moved onto another, and another, each expressing outrage, anger, and hatred towards the one who had killed me. They offered troops and even more support than before, much to my shock as Emma continued then read some papers after she placed down the letters.

"My Lord, ever since you died, we have seen a massive increase in our troop counts. Many towns and cities have taken it upon themselves to form militias, and knights have been whipped into a frenzy, wiping out twice as many ratmen enclaves. Duke has been trying to reign them in with little success, but luckily, so far, no one has encountered the monster that beat you." Emma's words brought relief along with intense confusion, as the Lich didn't go on a killing spree as anticipated. However, this was an afterthought as the conversation continued. Together, we came to the conclusion that I should stay dead, something I was quite okay with. This brought me to my current moment as I sat in a chair right across from Hunson, who smiled chillingly as he pushed over a tower of paperwork and spoke.

"Glad to see you have returned, ready to accept some more jobs?" he said, pushing the tower of papers further and further in my direction. His joy at unloading work became more and more visible upon his face, to the point where it looked like his smile extended past his eyes. But I didn't care. I manipulated the soul ice, now one-third of its previous size from the battle with the Lich, to ease the stack as it dragged along, marking the start of my leveling spree.

Yo what's up guys sorry no chapter yesterday and sorry for this will from now on be a consistent thing as yesterday was my last day from highschool so planning to live life now and not be a lazy tub or lard.

also I know talking about my life is kinda lame to some people on this sight who find its stupid but honestly who doesn't want to talk about themselves ever once in a while.
