87 Chapter 87: Freeze

Posted it early as I had inspiration and planned to have this be tommorow chapter but didn't really care

All around me, battle raged as gaping holes erupted throughout the city, unleashing a horde of snow-white ratmen. They emerged to clash against the Guards, who, despite their mastery of magic and skill in combat, struggled to contend with the overwhelming numbers pouring forth from every corner of the city.

"COME ON, BROTHERS, FIGHT!" A voice pierced through the chaos, belonging to a random citizen who unsheathed a sword from his waist, joining the fray alongside the Guards. Soon, others followed suit, arming themselves with an assortment of weapons to bolster the defense. Meanwhile, those unable to take up arms— the young, the elderly—pushed back against the tide of ratmen, herding them back into their subterranean lairs.

*ROAR*

Alas, the tide of battle soon shifted dramatically. From one of the tunnels whence the ratmen emerged, emerged a monstrous figure—a towering amalgamation of rat and bear, its form rippling with grotesque strength. With earth-shaking steps, it tore through the soil, looming over the defenders, poised to unleash devastation upon the Guards and the valiant citizens alike.

It was then that I joined the fray, stepping forward amidst the chaos. As I opened my mouth, a single word escaped my mouth, resonating through the air with a force that seemed to transcend mere volume. It echoed across the entirety of the city, neither loud nor soft, penetrating the ears of all—be they ratman or Guard.

"FREEZE!" With a command that seemed to halt time itself, everything around me came to a standstill. In the next instant, every ratman within and around the city found themselves transformed into solid statues of ice, their bodies frozen in place, rendered incapable of even the slightest movement.

"SHIFT!" Once more, my voice reverberated, resonating with power as the ground beneath us responded. Ever so subtly, the earth shifted, beginning to fill in the treacherous holes that had allowed the ratmen to emerge. With a resounding rumble, the ground sealed itself, entombing and burying the ratmen who had escaped my initial onslaught. Thousands of notifications clamored for attention, echoing in my ears, yet I disregarded them, focusing solely on the task at hand.

"Quickly, run and provide me with a count of the casualties! Tighten the defenses, and initiate the evacuation of the citizens to a location that can be easily fortified!" My orders cut through the air, snapping the guards out of their reverie as they inspected the icy sculptures of the ratmen.

"Yes, sir!" Their response was immediate and unanimous as they sprang into action, dispersing to all corners of the city. The guards swiftly organized under my command, restoring order to the chaos that had engulfed the streets. However, just as swiftly as order was reinstated, it was threatened once more as massive green balls of fire descended from the skies.

"What the hell?!" I screamed in shock as dozens of green balls of fire hurtled toward the city, their ominous glow casting an eerie light across the landscape. Reacting swiftly, I conjured water from the air, compressing it into a dense barrier of ice to intercept the incoming threat. However, to my astonishment, the green fire refused to be extinguished. Instead, it stubbornly clung to the ice, its intensity growing brighter with each passing moment as it slowly melted through the frozen barrier.

Focusing my attention, I sensed a malevolence emanating from the flames—a sensation more akin to tortured souls clinging to existence than ordinary fire. It was clear that mere water would not suffice against this supernatural inferno.

"Deal with the flames" I ordered the soul ice which clawed itself away from my skeleton as it broke into two distinct balls of ice that morphed to form two almost identical skeletons to me made of black ice that nodded before they departed in the direction of the malevolent green flames which attempted to consume the blocks of ice which I kept in the air to prevent the flames from spreading.

'Seems they came from the west lets go check it out' With that realization in mind, I activated my physical enhancement, enhancing my speed to lightning-fast levels. In an instant, I arrived at the north wall, where I was confronted by an army of ratmen stretching as far as the eye could see. Their numbers were staggering, no less than five thousand strong. Ordinarily, this force would pose a significant threat to the city's defense, considering there were only seven hundred guards. However, with each guard capable of dispatching at least five ratmen, and with the potential reinforcement of proficient citizens, the odds seemed less dire. Yet, it appeared the ratmen were banking on their infiltrating forces to tip the scales in their favor.

'Cannons, catpults and mutants' I listed the main threats of the ratmen army in my head noting how they still used the disgusting green ooze with scary proficiency as everthing dripped with it's disgusting green presence.

Checking my reserves of magic, I grimaced to find that casting any massive, full-scale spells was out of the question for the time being due to me having draining a constant bit of magic keeping the green flames out of the city. However, such limitations mattered little in the face of the imminent threat before me. Ignoring the calls and concerns of my soldiers, I leaped down from the wall and strode purposefully toward the army of ratmen. Though their numbers were formidable, I remained undeterred, determined to swiftly neutralize this ratmen attack and expedite the organization of a counteroffensive.
