78 Chapter 78: Wizard City part 4

"To master Light magic, you must first clear your mind of the darkness of your past and the fear of what your future might hold," Mcgongall's voice resonated in the tranquil space as I sat in a meditative pose. Her words were like a soothing balm, guiding me through the foundational principles of Light magic, one of the three magics I had chosen to learn.

As she moved around me, her presence exuded calmness and reassurance, each explanation delivered with steady clarity. With her guidance, I began to understand that Light magic.

"Now that you're in the correct state, try to change the natural element of your magic from frost to light," Mcgongall's instructions hung in the air, urging me to focus. With determination, I honed in on the ethereal energy coursing through my body, gathering a small ball of mana worth 5 points into my hand effortlessly. It was time for my third attempt at transforming it into light magic.

As I concentrated, silently urging the mana to shift, I initially encountered resistance. However, I refused to yield to frustration, persevering in my efforts to will the transformation into being. With each moment, I felt the cold, almost numbing frost mana begin to yield to the warmth and tranquility of light magic.

*WOOSH*

Like that small ball of light began to appear above my hand to illuminate the room, its light comforting like a mothers hug, or a strong reliable companion, but the ball of light soon disapted just as quickly as it arrived allowing the darkness to return as mcgongall took this chance to compliment me.

"Good job, Brook," Mcgongall praised, her voice tinged with genuine admiration. "I must say, casting your first spell in an element almost completely opposite to yours in less than a week is quite impressive. However, I must ask, why is your magic so... locked down? It's as if it's chained down and willing at that."

Hearing her question, I didn't panic. Instead, I gave her a simple shrug, my voice slightly upbeat after making a breakthrough in the five days I've stayed here. "Not really sure," I began, "but I hope to understand it in the future. Anyway, I have to go see my other teachers now," I said as I stood up and swiftly left McGongall, heading towards my next classes.

"But you were making so much progress..." That's all McGongall could say as I left, her words lingering in the air as I stepped out onto the bustling streets of Wizard City. With determination coursing through me, I navigated my way to my next lesson with my enhancement magic teacher, an elderly man who, like most veterans in the world of fantasy, was undoubtedly busted.

Our first meeting ended with me being dragged through the dirt as he tested my abilities. Honestly, when I used Scrutinize on him, the stat difference was insane. Luckily, though, it was only temporary as it was an enhancement. Still, it left me glad I chose this magic over the dozens of different magics I could learn. However, I must say, the old head's training mostly consisted of him thrashing me after quickly showing me the formulas for different enhancement spells.

Though I must admit, I find our battles quite fun.

"[Agility enhancement (low)]," I thought, and my body briefly glowed before the light faded, boosting my agility by 25 points. It was just enough to narrowly evade the strike from the towering old man, his snow-white hair cascading around his face like the mane of an ancient lion. His blow missed me by a mere inch, but I wasn't fast enough to dodge his follow-up. With his enhanced agility and a heavy strike, he sent me flying. However, I remained unfazed, quickly adjusting in mid-air and grabbing onto the ground to halt my momentum.

To the side, a group of strapping young men and women watched intently. They were Mordo's disciples, and although I was less experienced, I served as a valuable sparring partner to showcase the pinnacle of physical enhancement to these aspiring minds.

"Good lad, now how about we stop playing around and get a bit serious!" Mordo declared, his words laced with a hint of challenge. With a casual flex of his abs, he displayed an honestly Yujiro Hanma-esque musculature that left the young people to the side hollering and cheering on their master. Mordo grinned, a battle-hungry glint in his eye, as he prepared to escalate our training session to a more serious level.

"You got it, old man!" With those final words, I activated Glacial Dread, along with another spell called '[General Physical Enhancement (Medium)]', which increased all my physical stats by a whopping 25. Combined with Glacial Dread's +90, my stats skyrocketed to a horrifying 240 or slightly under that. I made sure to suppress the effects of Glacial Dread so they didn't affect the disciples as I and the old man resumed our hand-to-hand combat.

As expected, the old man was much more proficient in enhancement magic, shockingly activating three enhancements in one go. It was impressive, considering I could barely manage one enhancement.

"General enhancement! Agility enhancement! Strength enhancement!"

*1 and half hours later*

Soon enough, I found myself planted into the dirt, the area around us wrecked and destroyed by the intensity of our battle. The disciples, who had been previously watching from a few dozen meters away, now stood half a mile away, the danger of our fight becoming far too intense for them to remain close.

As I struggled to rise from the ground, bruised and battered but undeterred, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Despite the overwhelming challenge posed by the old man, I had pushed myself to the limit, testing the boundaries of my abilities and growing stronger with each exchange. Though the outcome of our battle may have been clear, the lessons learned and the progress made were invaluable.

"Haha! Good fight, boy, but you need to get going or that Witch might drown me in my own piss...again," the old man remarked, the last part uttered in a low whisper that I caught nonetheless. However, I chose not to mention it, preferring to avoid any potential conflict and simply bid my farewell.

As I glanced at the wrecked and destroyed environment that had once been our training ground, I couldn't help but feel torn. Should I stay and help clean up the mess we had created? The thought process was abruptly interrupted by the old man, who pointed to his approaching disciples.

Before I could make a decision, they arrived, clapping for their master's victory, smiles lighting up their faces. They surrounded us, offering compliments on our fight and expressing their admiration for both me and the old man. With their enthusiastic praise ringing in my ears, I couldn't help but feel excited to come here tomorrow.

"Don't worry about the mess, these kids will clean up," the old man reassured me. With those words echoing in my mind, I swiftly departed, knowing that the disciples would handle the aftermath of our intense training session.

As I made my way, I had a three-kilometer journey ahead of me to reach the entrance of Wizard City. However, upon arrival, the gate guard opened it as usual, allowing me to pass through without any delay.

Like that, I wandered the city for a bit, passing by many wizards until I found myself in front of a mansion that bordered on the edge of being called over-the-top. However, with little care for its opulence, I walked inside, the doors opening automatically. Like most things in this mansion, it was automated, a testament to the capabilities of the teacher here.

This particular teacher was not only the master of water but also the master of animation. Whether organic or inorganic, she could control it all to do her bidding.

Though there was slight problem with her personality.

"2 minutes and 21 seconds late. For a bag of bones with little to no meat on him, you take a long time to get anywhere, even without the extra luggage," a voice chimed in. Turning around, I found myself facing a short, pink-haired teen who leaned back lazily on some water, which she effortlessly manipulated to carry her down from the air and stand before me.

Her casual demeanor and teasing tone made it clear that she was none other than the master of water and animation, Yuno, the youngest master of wizard city at the ripe age of 21.

"Good day, Master Yuno. I've come to learn water magic from you," I said respectfully, remembering the lesson learned from a previous encounter where a casual greeting led to an unpleasant experience waking up at the bottom of a lake. This time, I aimed to approach with the utmost respect, hoping to avoid any similar mishaps.

"Late, but at least you're respectful. Grab a book from the library and begin to read. I will test you on it later, then we can begin the lesson," Yuno instructed, her tone firm but not unkind. With the grace of Aladdin on his magic carpet, she departed atop a giant ball of water, leaving me to my own devices.

Without wasting a moment, I headed to the large, expansive library. There, I selected a book on resource management and fostering the growth of a nation. Settling into a comfortable corner, I delved into the text, eager to absorb as much knowledge as I could before Yuno's return for my test.

Why am I doing this? simple.

When I first arrived, Yuno asked me a few questions and quickly concluded that I was, in her blunt assessment, an idiot. She made it clear that she, the third most knowledgeable and well-read person in Wizard City, would not waste her time teaching someone so lacking in intellect. As a result, I found myself relegated to not only magical lessons but also practical ones.

Fortunately, Yuno tailored these lessons around skills that would help me manage my nation. While initially disheartened by her assessment, I soon realized the value in the practical knowledge she imparted. Far from being against it, I embraced the opportunity to learn skills that would benefit me in my role as a leader.

Quickly, an hour passed, and I found myself acing the test given to me by Yuno. With a small nod of approval, she began to teach me water magic. I soon realized that water magic was a peculiar discipline. One moment, I grasped spells effortlessly, while at other times, I struggled like a drowning man with two cinder blocks for feet, unable to make any progress. The inconsistency was frustrating, but I didn't complain.

" You can go," Yuno dismissed me curtly after two hours of instruction. Quickly, I found myself unceremoniously escorted out by some animate wardrobe, an experience I had grown accustomed to. However, I paid it little mind as I made my way to the house gifted to me by the Grand Wizard for my stay in Wizard City.

'Lich must have been a monster to have fought these guys,' was the recurring thought I had since the beginning of my lessons. Most of the masters here were far stronger than the vampire king and his ilk. Hearing how the lich effortlessly overpowered dozens of people like my current teachers left me wondering just how horrifying the lich truly was.
