39 Chapter 39: Evolution 2

4 and a half years AMW

Honestly, what did I expect by setting up shop near one of the largest human settlements? To be left alone? Ha, I'd be lucky if half the settlement didn't come to visit me at once! It turns out that when your tales and inhuman feats are sung around campfires in every settlement, you become pretty famous. But Jesus, is it annoying.

Right now, it's about 9 in the morning, though I'm not entirely sure, and there are already dozens of children playing in the area around my shack. Jesus Christ, where the hell are these kids' parents? The only positive note is that Sally, the little girl I saved, is among them, having fun. Why did her mother decide to follow me and come stay in a completely different settlement? I don't know, but I'm glad to see them doing fine. The mother has even got a job working for the settlement leader, delivering orders and such to people, because the settlement I'm staying near has a population of about 500, making distributing orders quite a needed job.

On the topic of needed jobs, it turns out farming is back on the menu, as there are several large fields surrounding the area of the city the survivors decided to settle in. This fact is made all the more clear by the groups of kids who keep bringing me vegetables, saying things like "my parents said thanks" or "Thanks for saving my dad."

It's gotten to the point over the 6 months I've been staying here I started making food and snacks for the kids, making me feel like daycare center but its not all bad.

'Goddamn it, another one.' That's all I could think as I turned around from my position near the shack, where I was reading my books, with kids playing all around me. I caught sight of an oddly pale woman who was clearly a vampire—yep, a vampire in broad daylight. Turns out, when the Nosferatu create minions, the minions gain qualities of their creator, and Moon's super regeneration makes it impossible for the sun to kill her. Something this minion seems to have, but sadly for her, she will freeze just the same.

And freeze she did, as I moved at my maximum speed past groups of playing kids to grab the stalking vampire. She looked more akin to a child predator than a vampire, but that aside, I brought her far enough away so the kids could not see as I began to use Perma Frost, freezing her at the neck where my hand was grasping until she was a still, lifeless sculpture.

[You can now evolve]

I was happy excited all in one moment as I quickly walked back to my shack and quickly began to shoo the kids away much to there sadness, but I didn't care as I didn't like the idea of the kids not having anyone to protect them this far away from the settlement while Im evolving.

With that I layed down on the ground and began my evolution which like my first was a pitch black darkness followed by overwhelming strength.
