Caged In Her Heart

I stood there frozen. My body forgot how to function. I silently sent a sincere apology to all those dumbass movie characters I bitched about, not knowing why they always stand there like a fucking invitation when the psychopath is still a good fifty metres away and the stupid targets are not having their asses on the run already. But now I know why. It's not because they don't want to try. It's because they know they're fucked no matter what. I always used to wonder about the logic behind this concept in every thriller movie. But today, I got the answer. As a good bye gift. My mind was battling over two thoughts. Should I lift my head up and take a quick glance at the infamous hybrid Alpha King's face and then die a horrible yet satisfactory death..... .....Or just control my dangerous curiosity and die in one strike. Much more peacefully. Chances of survival is possible in neither of the cases. Might as well drench the thirst of my curious mind and die with the privilege of doing something even the strongest alphas fear to do. Without thinking any further I quickly lifted my head and looked straight. A pair of sapphire coloured eyes looked straight through my Onyx ones. Shit! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trouble and Jennifer Stetson are inseparable. Join there journey of mystery.

CHAPTER 1

Jennifer pov

Jenny Bunny: Guys this might seem a lot simpler than it is. But don't be fooled. Remember the pain we endured because of his fam' and him? I hope you do.

I qucik-typed a text in my group, not taking more than a few seconds. I looked up and made sure he's still in my field of vision.

You are so dead.

I felt my phone vibrate, indicating I recieved a text.

Ms. Perfecto: But revenge is never a solution!

Dr. Chunkamunk: Gosh! I told you she'd be a buzz-kill. I suggest we remove her from this mission captain.

Ms. Perfecto: Excuse me! The last time I checked you weren't the captain. So better keep your suggestions to yourself.

Dr. Chunkamunk: And lemme remind you, you're in no position to command me, so stfu bitch.

Ms. Perfecto: You shut up, you grade-D numbskull.

Dr. Chunkamunk: What?! Get lost before I set your teeny-tiny ass on fire.

Ms. Perfecto: Your penis is so small, if you fucked a mouse it wouldn't notice. Son-of-a-motherless-goat....talking 'bout my ass.

Dr. Chunkamunk: CAPTAIN!! THIS BISSHHH TALKING 'BOUT MY DICK! WAT DID MY MOTHER DO DUDE!! I'M SUING HER FOR TEXTUALLY ASSAULTING ME!! #justiceforhottie

I groaned inwardly, sliding a hand down my face. Nobody but me is to be blamed for appointing these two jokesters on this life-saving assignment.

Jenny Bunny: Stop acting like kids damn it! Resume your bickering later. Now get down to business mugheads!!!

There was a pause. Followed by two consecutive vibrations.

Ms. Perfecto: Fine, captain.

Dr. Chunkamunk: k, boss.

I hid behind the wall, pressing my face against it and tuned my sensitive hearing. I heard him move a little to his right.

Okay....

Jenny Bunny: Emma he's coming towards you. Do you think you'll be able to finish this?

Ms. Perfecto: Oh my Gosh!!! I'm really scared. What if I mess up this time too. He'll come back and get me when you guys are not around.

Jenny Bunny: That's okay. Don't panic.

Dr. Chunkamunk: Smh....and so much for that. You're all bark and no bite buttercup.

Jenny Bunny: MAVERICK!!!

Ms. Perfecto: Fuck you asshole!

Dr. Chunkamunk: You too love. You too.

I pinched the bridge of nose in frustration.

' Calm down J. We have more important work that needs our attention. We'll deal with them later.' my wolf, Aithne, reassured me.

Yes. Getting rid of him is my top priority now. I felt my phone vibrate multiple times, but I didn't respond to them immediately. I stayed quiet for a whole minute, silently letting them know how mad I am right now.

I switched on my phone to see several apologies from the both. I nodded in satisfaction to no one in particular and finally replied.

Jenny Bunny: K. Now listen up folks. Here's the plan. Emma since you told you not sure 'bout doing this, I want you to switch places with Mave. Do it as quietly as possible. The second he knows we're dead. Mave, you get the weapons and stay still. Don't do anything till my next instruction. Emma, I want you to get his back covered. Also, I want you to inform me on detecting any visible movements. This lil bastard is talented enough to trick us. Don't underestimate him.

It took them only a few seconds to accomplish their given tasks. I was so proud of my bitches.

Dr. Chunkamunk: All set captain.

Ms. Perfecto: Waiting for your command. But....I still feel bad though....

Jenny Bunny: On my word guys. Just go for it without any hesitation. We got this.

I texted before Mave could come up with anything that'll possibly anger Emma, setting off another virtual argument. I don't have the time for their shit.

Slowly leaning my head away from the wall, I saw him standing in the same spot. I smirked knowing that he won't be able to escape this time. Afterall we've been planning this for weeks since our last encounter. My instinct told me that he'll move to his right.

He moved to his right.

I mentally fist-pumped.

I wasted no time in giving the go sign.

Jenny Bunny: MAVE NOW!!

As soon as he recieved my text he made made a clicking sound.

He swiftly turned to his right started moving. We leapt from our shelters and got ready to attack. Our sudden appearance shocked him to the core. I literally saw him losing his cool for a second, and stumble a little.

Yes buddy. That's what you get for messing with us.

I think I spoke too soon because being the smartie he is he suddenly changed directions and started moving to his left. I was thrown off guard at his brilliance, but recovered soon before anything drastic could happen.

The next 5 seconds happened in slow motion, like the one we see in movies.

I grabbed the nearest thing to me which luckily happened to be one of Emma's books. It's one of those bulky, scary-looking books that'll crush your hope of passing your exams even on mere borders. I heard Maverick screaming curses seeing the plan's flopping.

I almost slipped on the kitchen rug but steadied myself with my other leg.

'#legpower' Aithne cheered loudly in my head causing me to cringe inwardly. I started to panic when I noticed he was about to take off. I did a somersault in the air, slamming the book on top him.

Silence.

Nobody moved and stood frozen on their spots. All we could hear was the wind howling, and snowflakes depositing on the grasslands outside.

"Turn around." Mave whispered not taking his eyes off the book.

I did as told. And there he layed still on the table. We all leaned in to take a look at his now motionless body. His tiny wings were parted a little whereas his hands and legs or.....just legs was spread onto his sides and his head was slightly tilted to his left, giving us a perfect view of the fragile ligament that connects the head to his pronotum. Mave took a pen from the pen holder and flipped him with the help of it. He adjusted his glasses examining the ventral side of his body. Werewolves are born with hightened senses that also includes super-good vision and Mave has it too. The only sense he lacks is common sense. He started wearing glasses since our visit to the human side of the world, because he thinks they make his very evident handsomeness to pop out.

"Hmm." He nodded, tapping his chin with the pen.

"Is he dead?" Emma asked pulling out the tiny green body bag that she tailored herself a week ago.

"I think so." I replied back not looking at her.

"We've to make sure he's not pretending though." Mave said pulling out a feather from his Jean pocket.

Where the hell did he get that?

"But how are we going to find that?" I asked the obvious question. Mave passed the feather to me, which I accepted with confusion.

"Tickle him."

"What?" I asked gaping at him. He gave me a serious look. "You think that's gonna work?" I asked with the same seriousness. He grabbed the feather from me and went towards Emma who was currently trying to fix the zipper of the body bag. He sneaked behind her and before she could feel his presence Mave ticked her left ear with the soft feather.

Slap.

Mave held his left cheek that had a five-fingered print on it. Damn. She holds much power on contrary to what her delicate body shows.

Looks sure can be deceiving.

"Thank you for your co-operation. It was really helpful to prove a theory." Mave said bowing a little, still holding his cheek.

"Glad I helped." She smiled sweetly before going back to her work.

"See? Now your turn." He passed the feather to me. I tickled his ears....or the region where his ears are supposed to be.

No reaction.

I moved a little down and tickled his sides.

Dead. Dead as a doornail.

I nodded at Mave in conformation. I clutched my head when he suddenly screamed causing a ringing sound in ears. My sensitive ears couldn't recover as fast I thought it would, because he was standing right next to me. I snapped my fingers near my ears , checking if I had turned deaf. "What the fuck Maverick?" Emma and I screeched at the same time.

"He's lacking antennas!!" I would've said something ugly if I hadn't noticed that expression on his face. He looked like a teen who was just told that they'd won passes for a BTS concert in the lottery.

"Mmm....okay. So?" I guessed that Emma also didn't want to pop his bubble so she just came up with that.

"SO? THAT'S A- that's a milestone in the history of discoveries." He changed his tone immediately when we glared at him.

"Over 4,000 species of roaches have been tracked down so far. Each with different modifications-some lacking mandatory organs and some with additional accessories that are pretty unfunctional. But, so far, as of yet hitherto, up to this point-"

"Cut to the chase." Emma interrupted him, yawning a little.

"This is the only one I've seen with no antennas." He grabbed the nearby notepad and started taking notes. Maverick is a third year medical student and at the same time, he's also in his final year at high school.

Humans would be very shocked on knowing the education system we follow here. Here, students don't have to wait to finish their high school before applying for colleges and universities. The only exceptions are the wolves who decide to do their higher studies in human colleges. The others can simply start applying whenever they feel they are ready. It's because the elders & scholars believe that young minds are much more effective and potential, and can help raise the living standards of the wolves and fulfilling their wants and needs are the top priority of the council. Our hospitals, schools and labs are much more equipped compared to the ones humans use. I'll be clearing my B.Sc Quantum physics final exams shortly after my high school graduation. I've been doing it in distance after finishing my 7th grade. I plan on doing my masters before I start working on the campus- it's the academy built for inventing machineries, that's where physicists from all over the other packs work. And by that time I hope I would've found my mate and settled down. Emma is a third year law student, who will also be writing her finals shortly after our graduation.

I looked at Mave. He's on his way becoming a great doctor. He looks like a doctor already. His father is not only the beta of my pack- The River Creek pack, but also the head of the WWMC (WereWolf Medical Council). Mave's elder brother, Josh, will be taking up the beta position when his father, Beta Mason retires. And Mave wants to follow his father's footsteps, as a Medical practitioner. When I asked him about his passion, he said, his passion was to make his father proud. Although he's annoying as a mosquito he's the sweetest kid any couple would ask for, as a child.

"I'm seeing a Nobel prize." His big brown eyes shone while he talked to himself.

"What if he had lost his antennas in an accident or something." Emma asked peering down at his notes.

"I couldn't identify any antenna sockets so I crossed out that possibility." He replied back not taking his eyes off his notes.

Smart.

I frowned when my phone started ringing, an unknown number flashing on the screen.

"Is it that cute boy from our chemistry class?"

"He has a girlfriend already" Aithne reminded me.

"Is it Gemini, calling up to ask for that 50 bucks I borrowed from her last week?"

"She's has the memory of a goldfish." She huffed out.

"Did I order something?"

"It's the end of the month. Your wallet is empty as your brain." She cooed.

"You do remember you're a part of me right?" I asked feeling a little offended.

"Exactly! The only sensible part of you." She replied flipping back her non-existent hair.

"Oh no! What if someone met with an accident and they're calling from the hospital? Oh my god! Who could it be? Mom? Dad? Or worse, Rose?". I started panicking, assuming the worst.

"I've a brilliant idea that would help us know what's happening on the other end." She said snapping her toes.

"What is it?"

"Pick up the damn call, duh!" And with that she went back to her den, flipping the bird.

I mentally slapped myself for being an idiot while sliding the green ring down the screen.

"Good afternoon Ms. Stetson" I was surprised to hear Mrs. Smith's voice from the other end. I guessed that she has called from her personal phone seeing that it's not the staff room phone number.

"Good afternoon Mrs. Smith." I wished back looking at the clock. It read 8:09 p.m. What could she possibly need from me at this hour? I'm pretty sure I collected tomorrow's memo from the principal's office before leaving for my dorm.

"I need you in the principal's office in ten minutes. I couldn't explain much on the phone but you'll be informed when you're reached." And with that she hung up. Emma and Mave were also listening to the conversation cause they were looking at me, mirroring my expression.

Confusion.

We looked at each other for 7 seconds before Mave interrupted.

"K...so shouldn't you must be running already?" He shrugged at me.

"Oh shit! Yes. Guys, don't wait for me since I've no idea of what's waiting. Just save my dinner. Mave, remember to get back to your dorm before 9. I don't want Fiona jumping on my ass tomorrow for allowing your stay at the girl's tonight." I was already out of the room before finishing my last sentence. I jogged down the stairs, all the way wondering what would make Mrs. Smith call me up at this time. This is the first time I'm visiting the principal's office after the sunset. She sounded a bit stressed? I don't know. But I'm sure this ain't going to be good news for me.
