Chapter 37: The Three Room Predecessors and the Eccentric Roommate

"Impossible," said the pale-faced girl.

She lost much energy and fell flat on the ground.

The seniors ran to her in fear. They forced some pills into her mouth, and we all waited for thirty minutes before she fully recuperated.

Meanwhile, I'd already dispelled the lethality in her body with just a single thought.

The first thing she said when she regained some vitality was, "How can you poison one with the Innate Poison bloodline?"

The crooked nose senior, Mangtian Ya'er, asked, "What exactly did you feel, Xueyi?"

Xueyi looked at me once more before looking at the senior.

"It almost took my life."

Everyone was astonished, then they looked at me, once more.

Xueyi continued, "At first, she made me feel that I'd claimed full control over her poison. But who could have thought that I'd lose control of it rather, and that it would go straight towards the direction of my heart immediately?!"

Her glare was ravenous. I could only stare in confusion.

"There's something weird about you," said the demi-human, Zhang Lu. She sniffed the air once more and said, "You have an aura of divinity and peculiarity... why's that?"

Aura of divinity? How could that be?

'Grrrring!'

The sound of a bell suddenly rung over our heads. The alarm sound could be heard ringing in every dormitory. Next came a resounding voice as though the words spoken were right next to our ears.

"All decade-old students should report to the Hall of Apprehension, immediately!"

The seniors exchanged glances, then sighed, before cross-checking their already piled luggages.

Before going, Zhang Lu said to me:

"Steph, you're going to be someone powerful in the future, so we'll definitely meet once more. Pay attention to your cultivation lessons and you'll gain more than you'll ever lose."

After some thoughts, she said, "I have an ancient cultivation technique that I've been unable to use for years. It should compliment your secret art of reining aura in."

Mangtian Ya'er shook her head in disapproval.

"Senior gave that to you, how can you just give it away?"

Zhang Lu sighed. "If I remember clearly, not even Senior was able to cultivate it. This junior here, just could make a miracle, who knows?"

She then pulled out an extremely flat book and handed it to me. I took it from her slowly, mouthing the words on the book: "The Way of Disguise."

"Un." Zhang Lu nodded then gave me a double pat on my shoulder.

"Thank you," I said, meekly, before keeping it in my storage ring.

Kong Yingyan who'd been silently pacing around with a compass, flicked out a couple of flags covered in her true essence. She controlled the flags and placed them on strategic locations.

"She's obviously a Formation Master," Jessica whispered to me. She'd been silent all through and so I found it kind of weird that she spoke now. I nodded in apprehension.

Few minutes after, a portal opened up. My eyes revealed much shock. Even she could build a portal? Just what level of mastery were these seniors in their fields?

It was only after the portal was ready that these seniors unleashed the prowess of their true cultivation. All along, they'd suppressed their cultivations to the Cultivation Deciphering realm. But any onlooker could tell that they'd suppressed their cultivations, due to the fluctuations in their true essence. It was only at this moment that we finally got to get a glimpse of their real prowess.

Kong Yingyan smiled at us and said, "It's only a short-range formation, it can't teleport us out of the academy."

She looked at Xueyi who was getting back much of her vitality and nodded. Xueyi nodded back then looked down. Mangtian Ya'er walked to her and gave her a bottle of something, then patted her shoulder. When Xueyi saw the bottle she appeared to be extremely surprised, and before she could even snap herself off her daze, all three seniors were off to the wind, as though they'd never been there moments ago.

She muttered under her breath, "Thank you Senior, I won't forget you."

After the seniors' disappearances, the room became quiet for the first time.

"Wow, that was... something." Jessica smiled with her hands akimbo.

I observed the room, once more. It was quite large. It had a bathroom and a kitchen inside, as well. The room was painted light orange, giving the eyes an awkward pleasure. There were three beds in the room, and hence, I didn't have to worry about sharing bunks. There were three tall shelves, and some study desks.

Xueyi had already been sitting on the bed on the right side of the room. Where I stood, there were two beds, one of which was already occupied by Jessica. Found myself a bed...

I laid down tiredly on the clean sheets with wonderful odours to it. Soon enough, I drafted off to sleep, without even the slightest time to think about the previous activities of the day.

* * *

Two and a half hours later, I woke up after feeling a weird sensation in my body. After awakening, the first person I saw was Jessica. She seemed quite excited as she stared into my face from behind her spectacles. Over her shoulder was Xueyi walking into the bathroom.

"Why're you staring at me that way?" I asked.

She shook her head and tried suppressing the agitation in those sparkling eyes of hers. I couldn't really tell what was going on in her head.

"How come you can only be awaken by poison?" she asked, to my surprise.

"Huhn?"

I quickly sat up to examine myself, through my true essence, and found a handful of poison which was fading off at an incredible speed.

"I've depleted just about half of my true essence in my dantian, just trying to wake you up. If not for your steady breathing, I'd have thought you were dead," she replied.

My ears pricked up. It was not because of hearing that she couldn't wake me up, it was the mentioning, however, of a particular term she'd used.

"What does 'dantian' mean?" I asked.

Earlier, Lian'er had used that same term, but refused to explain to me what it meant.

Instead of marching away in disgust like Lian'er did, Jessica rather said, "Direct your spiritual consciousness to your abdomen, there you'll notice something."

I nodded and focused my attention inside of me, before opening my eyes once more.

"I saw something like a river. Pure and flawless, transparent to every drop. It was totally colourless."

Jessica chuckled.

"That river is your true essence... although I've never heard of a colourless one, but the true essence reservoir is what we call 'dantian'. Now enough with the talking, you wouldn't want to miss lunch."

Lunch? That could be the reason she was trying to wake me up! I slapped my forehead before hurrying to wash my face. Xueyi was already out and seemed to be... waiting for us... for me, rather.

The first question she asked me when I was all set was, "Just how the damn were you able to counteract on my poison?!"
