Dinner and its consequences

I picked Mia sharp at 7. She looked beautiful in her white sweater and skinny jeans. I was nervous to see my friends, my Ma and Mia be together in a room. Recipe for a perfect embarrassment of one James Miller. I was scared of what they would say to her. Normally I didn't care what others thought of my silly pranks and behavior but I didn't want her to feel that I am not cool. But now was too late to back out, we were already in the car. Mia was behind the wheel and I sat beside her while Ma was sitting behind.
I stole glances at Mia every now and then and I felt her doing the same. Something felt weird tonight, good kinda weird. There seemed to be tension in the air, none of us said anything until Ma decided to embarrass me.
"So... when did you both start to date?" I saw her wiggle her eyebrows.
Mia pressed the gas pedal too hard and the car sped before coming to an abrupt halt.
