Burned At Stake

Screams

That's all I heard

Besides the occasional yelling of the soldiers

Everything went to shit

I didn't know how long I had been sleeping for all chaos to suddenly ensue

Just last night my coven and I were celebrating a wedding between the Coven's Pope and the Lady of another coven that was exiled for the sole reason of eloping with a member of another coven. My coven's Pope.

The Lady wasn't sad at all but delighted based on the rumors surrounding her. Many people didn't like her, especially the more ancient members of the coven, the elders. They said she was pure evil and the fluctuations she gave off was anything but good.

This made a lot of the members cautious towards her but it was all forgotten in due time. It was forgotten because she was a very kind lady and she showed everyone that. Even the elders said that they were probably delusional because when they checked the Lady's aura again it wasn't like what they had said before.

Stupid right?

It was just yesterday that everyone was excited and beaming with happiness over the upcoming event.

I didn't expect that when I woke up after deciding to take a nap I'd find everything in ruins. There were no bodies on the ground but there were fires and so many broken objects. I look towards the windows and notice all of them were broken.shards were all over the ground.

I was confused, what had happened?

I heard some screams a bit further away. Me being a curious youngster went closer to the noise. I saw my members being dragged and beaten by what I'm guessing are soldiers.

Why aren't they fighting back? We have powers bestowed to us by nature, by the elements…why aren't they using it? Those soldiers are just humans why-

*screams*

I let out a scream as I'm dragged by the hair and pushed out from the bushes by a soldier

I hadn't even realized someone was behind me! How could I not detect a human!?

Then-a thought struck to me…what if they aren't humans? But what could they be? They hadn't shown any usage of abilities.

The soldier kept dragging my body against the cold hard ground and occasionally some sharp rocks would scrape my body making my body sting all over. It was like a short minute torture.

We had finally gotten close to what looks like

[pupils dilate]

Stakes…

But not just ordinary stakes. The energy it gave off was immense. It was suffocating me much less the other members who were much closer.

The only stake that could make us feel this way is the Mortem Arbors. Also known as the death trees.

The reason it can harm us and other witches and warlocks is because we used to get our magic from evil, from the darkness but an incident occurred a long time ago that forced us to change where we get our source of magic. We had changed it that's instead of light being our weakness, it was darkness instead.

That tree was born from the evil of the wandering souls. The anguished and despaired spirits. It was a tree that was born from darkness and fed on it too.

I tried using magic but strangely I couldn't, it's as if they are locked. But it doesn't make sense, I would've known if there was something placed upon me to lock my powers… but I couldn't

I was fully despaired

I looked at the other members and we each saw that look in each other's eyes.

'We will definitely all die'

I didn't dare look around anymore, seeing my people like that, hurt far too much.

I looked down and everything was silent for a bit

The soldiers caught the other members who were running and trying to escape. I was dragged closer to my coven and the pressure was too much.

I fainted

10 seconds later

*gasp*

I awoke to cold water being splashed upon me. It felt like I was drowning

I gasped for breath, right now I was only an ordinary human, I was powerless.

That's when it hit me. That pressure I felt before, only ten times worse.

I could feel like my insides were exploding, I couldn't breath at all, blood was constantly pouring out my mouth.

I looked around and notice a few other members of my coven looking the same as I imagine myself to look at as of right now. I looked down and notice the majority of the coven looking at us in horror.

I couldn't curse the soldiers. My magic is sealed. I'm no threat to them. But even if I know this, I don't care. With the last remaining breath of mine I fiercely and hatefully looked down at the soldiers. I said in a loud voice, "Mark my words! I, Lanira Zephl curse you and your people to damnation! I hope you suffer as my coven and I have"

With that my body couldn't hold on any longer

*drop*

(The author's POV)

With that curse, lanira had finally died just like the other members who had died with, before, and after her.

However....she was not the only one to place a curse....the others following after her made one too

This event was remembered by the humans as "The Great Cleansing"

Whilst for the other mythical beings as well as other covens, it was named, "The Great Massacre" it was served as a purpose.....to warn

Them

But even as the members died, they couldn't catch a glimpse of their Pope and his wife to be.

Then it struck them

They were filled with loath towards the humans and the traitors..

They could never rest in peace

To be continued…

I will update later today!
