The Tale of Lillith

"So, this is what I'm thinking happened." Zain's mother started speaking in a somber tone, no one moving about but Damascus and Zain's father sat down with their heads hung low as she began to speak once more:

"It was before you were born Zain, all three of us and a cleric who has since climbed to be nearer to the pope position in the church all came this way for a quest. We had been nicknamed the suppressors not due to our flood suppression missions but due to our threat suppression missions. There was a Demon in the woods who was causing havoc for the village.

This was not a regular demon rather one of the demon princesses who had escaped their realm to try and seek shelter from the in fighting of her land. She was not meaning any harm but had inadvertently caused a stir in the natural way of life around here. She was leaking her mana into the surrounding area resulting in the creatures leaving their natural habitat or worse, they would mutate into infernal beasts themselves.

The beasts running would occasionally charge into the city and run amok causing suspicious of what was causing it. We had been tasked with investigating this phenomenon and setting it, as such we set off into the woods and we found ourselves faced with the massive amounts of mana seeping out of the woods. We approached slowly and eventually found a clearing she had made where she was harvesting food and supplies.

Unfortunately, as soon as we showed up it startled her, thus it invoked a battle to ensue. It was fierce and lasted a few days. There was a lot of back and forth but as any four against one battle would, us four came out victorious.

To be honest we did not want to harm her, merely to drive her out of the forest but she refused to have anything to do with the cities or kingdoms. She said that she only wanted to live alone and be let be, so we five came to a compromise. Our then cleric put a binding on her until her powers while in her dormant state were enough to break it. Before we completed the sealing, she did speak to me to let me know a time frame. She put her own magic into my wrist and said, "When the seal starts to weaken you will be pregnant with the first human who does not have magic."

We sealed her away without incident and then ten years later, I had long forgotten about what she said. Me and your father became pregnant with you and when you came out unable to use magic, that's when I knew the time was nearing.

It's been sixteen years since you were born, almost seventeen, and yet she had not broken the seal the first thing that caused suspicion was when it was you the flood appeared for and no one else. The next was the location of this place, and now the fact the only things we have faced thus far are infernal creatures and creatures we aren't even familiar with."

As she finished speaking Zain was awestruck. It had been almost twenty-seven years since this instance, and she seemed to remember it all perfectly. Sophia was standing there mouth agape when the story finished. Zain's father and Damascus were sitting down with their heads hung as if expecting to be ridiculed for their carelessness, and Zain's mother stood there as solum as usual but was looking as if she was anticipating something to be said in the heat of this revelation.

Zain was the first to say anything but what came out shocked everyone. "What was her name?" He asked in a calm and collected tone.

"What?" The four others seemed to be confused about the meaning behind him asking such a question.

"Well, usually if you call someone by their name when you meet them as if you were expecting it to be them, things tend to not escalate to the extremes." Zain spoke still about as even killed as could be.

"Her name was Lilith." His mother responded in an almost defeated tone.

"I'll make sure to commit it to memory." Zain replied, "Now what do you lot say we try to find our way to the next floor and eventually to the bottom to try and resolve this issue?"

With that everyone stood up almost as if a King had made an appearance before an army on the front lines and given the most invigorating speech to them about how they couldn't lose, and everyone started looking around the room for an exit.

Zain was the first to find it, but he wasn't about to take the credit after just brightening the mood, he scurried off a few yards and then beckoned over his father and asked about something growing among the vines. When his mother was looking for more specimens, she happened upon the exit just like Zain had planned.

Before opening the door, everyone agreed to a slightly longer break and so they sat and relaxed for about an hour.

When they all seemed to be back in better conditions than when they arrived on the floor, Zain got them back into the original formation and they proceeded to journey to the next floor below.
