reincarnated

Zach was a younger adult male who one day by mere accident had a piano falling in front of him he pushed a girl out of the way and saved her. The next thing he knew he opened his eyes in a white expanse looking around he saw what appeared to be an elderly man sitting down looking off into the endless expanse. "You died son, that was unexpected. Usually when faced with saving someone and saving yourself you humans tend to lean more towards yourselves." The man's voice was soft but not hard to hear, it was warm but not so much so that it was creepy as well. "For your last act as part of the living being that of selflessness, I have decided to place you in a new world. This is a world that you will probably excel in giving your learning aptitude in your past life. Your knowledge will transfer with you and your hobby and project hopping will make for a great index of knowledge you have to apply to this world. You may do as you wish but keep in mind that I cannot guarantee anymore than your memory stays intact. Good luck and have fun, but this time please ensure to live your life to the fullest."

As Zach opened his eyes once more, he looked around and saw that where he was now was some sort of bed with railings. He could not speak but when he tried, he only mustered out small grunts and coo-like sounds. He tried to maneuver his body, but it felt as if it would not respond to him due to the lack of muscles. So, as he lay there unable to do anything frustrated due to having to go through whatever type of prison this is, he started breaking down which came out as a tantrum of sorts.

While his crying commenced an older woman made her way into the room and rushed to pick him up and coddle him. It felt nice and relaxing like nothing he had felt and could remember. She was so much bigger than him and also a lot gentler than he was used to. She held him tight and bounced him softly as he realized the interior of the room, he was in was covered from top to bottom with wooden planks a little wider than the two by fours he was used to but with just enough overlap to keep the place insulated. This woman must have been a caregiver as when he soothed a little bit, she stopped the bouncing and began to walk around a little holding his head in place talking in a soothing voice in a language he didn't quite understand. It felt weird but by the time she stopped walking they were in another room where she walked in and handed him to another lady who then began feeding him. It was at this moment he realized that he had been not only reincarnated but he was reincarnated into being a baby again.

The infancy stage felt like it wouldn't end while he was in it but during that time, he learned his new name was Zain Zellars and his mother was an alchemist who ran the apothecary in their small town and that his father was a hunter who would bring back large beasts for everyone in the town who needed more meat. All in all, his parents were generous and due to his expanse of knowledge he could help his mother improve her compounds and even help his father craft munitions for his bow. It wasn't long until the whole town was talking about Zain and his bright future in Alchemy. Before the age of ten he was also helping at the smithy in his free time and was making small daggers that were based off the kunai from his original world. Which again got people talking about him being a prodigy as a smith.

Soon after the town had started noticing his achievements, they started piling together some money to assist in his parents sending him to school for alchemy and smithing. After Zain came to the age of ten, he could speak the language in which people spoke, could write, and read, and could even have had three apprentice level positions for ammunition crafter, alchemist, or smith. When the time of spring came for school to start, he was all dressed up in the nicest clothes the town had and was set into a carriage loaded down with about five chests. One was full of alchemy books and supplies. The second was filled with smithing tools and books about different processes. The third chest had some of the basics of ammunition crafting books and some of the tools used for doing so. The fourth chest was just filled with some school cloths and supplies. The last chest was the tuition fees.

It took a couple of days to reach the academy and it was huge. It was the size of a college from Zain's original world but more of a medieval renaissance fair aesthetic. They had tapestries draped down the front wall showing what the different professions taught there were, and Zain's eyes widened. There were so many more taught that he never even had seen before. There were oracles and battle mages, they needed prior magical capabilities and knowledge which Zain had none of. There was mercenaries or conscripts as some like to be called as they worked under contract for a person or city and received weekly stipends but with failures in that field came a bad reputation and sometimes you were asked to go kill other people which didn't set well with Zain. The last of the business routes offered at the academy was being an enchanter which required magical properties and sometimes even required the mending or repair of items so that it could maintain the magical properties. But none of those mattered as Zain knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to become a smith and alchemist with an undertone of munitions crafting. With his mind made up Zain made his way in to sign up for his courses.
