First Floor's Boss

Staring up at the colossus black double doors in front of him Zain studied the patterns quickly making note of all the details for any information to be gathered. There was a singular oversized imp carved into it holding a triton-like object Zain didn't recognize. It had a plump belly and forked tail with tiny wings. Around it was smaller imps about the average size to be expected, each throwing darts and daggers with something coming off of them.

According to the knowledge the guild and university had on imps, they usually preferred to deliver death overtime injecting more and more poison into the veins of their victims, but Zain thought that would only be part of their problem. He looked over to his mom and motioned her over.

"I only have a little bit of antidote material on me, do you have any? We might need it." Zain said all this pointing at the door indicating the smaller imps.

Zain's father saw the wheels in Zain's head spinning at full speed as he was formulating a plan and ensuring that their needs were met before even opening the door, so he approached them. As he made his way to the door it became apparent why Zain was stuck in this state. There were seven smaller imps surrounding the big one which he was thinking was indicating the number of minions. The only one from the group was Damascus who was never a planner but just did as the leader said. In this case Zain was the leader and they were awaiting a final plan.

After inventorying their supplies to make antidotes, Zain looked at his father and said the most bone chilling words his son had ever spoken. "I hope you can still shoot fast enough to take out a zombie horde, cause they will need cover." As he spoke this he pointed to Sophia and Damascus who took this as a sign to move forward.

"All we have for healing is out supplies. Mother is working on getting antidote mixtures ready and will try to collect the poison to perfect it when the time comes to administer them." Zain paused, looking down, feeling ill-prepared for what was to come, then continued speaking. "I will need you two to distract the main boss who will probably be summoning minions to assist it. Father will be taking care of the minions, if you cannot get a clean attack into the boss don't fret it. I will finish it off when I can as long as I don't have to kill minions too." Sophia and Damascus nodded at this and knew it was about to be serious.

Zain turned around, walked to the door, looked behind him and nodded signaling he was opening the door as he did, the cold dark room soon lit up. The door had been lighter than Zain expected, magical enhancements he guessed. But as they all stepped in, the door shut behind them as a giant imp landed in the center of the round room holding a triton with a forked tail and plump belly like on the door.

Sophia and Damascus used to the roles took the vanguard spots up front, Zain's mother was moved to the back as Zain drew his rapier and pistol, and Zain's father drew his crossbow notching a bolt in it. As the oversized imp glared down on them, the group of five stood anticipating it to launch an attack or something. The imp just stood there glaring at them until it wasn't.

Sophia and Damascus rushed the imp and then it slammed its triton onto the floor simultaneously summoning seven regular sized imps as it spoke something in its demonic language, the summoned imps lurched into action as Zain's father started firing his cross bow at them. Surprisingly his father shot all seven of them down in a matter of seconds like the stories he heard around the guild of the marksman on the flood suppressors.

Damascus had made it up to the giant imp at this point delivering deep wounds with his great sword leaving gashes it. Sophia, beside Damascus, was keeping its triton at bay and away from the ground so it couldn't summon any more imps. It was almost like watching a beautiful dance that should have taken years to perfect. Zain saw an opening with the imp distracted by the others, so he ran to a spot in front of the abnormally sized imp, raised his gun, and although he felt sorry for the amount against it he yelled to the others "Cover your ears!" and fired.

The shot rang through the air echoing in the cambers they occupied and pierced the skull of the giant imp. Sophia, in a lapse of judgement due to the shock she was in after feeling the reverberation from the shot and witnessing it blurted out something that shocked the room. "What type of magic was that?"

The room fell silent as she realized she had just asked that to the one without any magical abilities as Zain turned with a smug look on his face and replied. "That was bullet magic." As everyone else started laughing at Zains reply Sophia was left feeling a bit embarrassed but knew she had to burry that feeling as they didn't know how many more floors there even were in the dungeon.
