The Savior

"Great General, with all due respect, we urge you to stay out of this. We want to get rid of a threat to our lives." Gu-bong lied.

"We just want to execute this cursed child who has brought doomed onto us" the old shaman added.

The General chuckles and questioned "How can a child pose as threat to 17 armed men?"

He sighed as he said to himself "What a mean world."

Confused on what to say, the villagers started murmuring among themselves. One of them voiced out and said "This child here has been cursed by Bulgasal. He has brought doomed upon us, caused the lost of many lives and the demon won't stop until he's either dead or given to him."

"Outrageous!!" the General shouted. Such an innocent child poses no such threat to warrant such vicious treatment from you.

"Come over child. What is your name?" he asked the boy.

"I don't know!" replied the boy.

The General knitted an eye brow and questioned again "You mean you do not have a name?"

"Yes" he said.

General Dan smiled and said "From this day on, you shall be called Hwal." "Hwal" means "rebirth." You have been reborn this day and shall now become my adopted son.

"Give me your hand and I will help you onto the horse" the General said to him.

He ordered his battalion to move out but was blocked by the old shaman.

She said to him "let the boy die or you will bring the wrath of Bulgasal upon your people and household."

He paid deaf ears to the old woman's wailing and warnings. "You will regret this!" she shouted aloud as she watched them disappeared out of sight over the horizon.

After two days of travel, they battalion reach the capital city where the General's home is.

"We are home!" the General exclaimed.

A young girl about the age of Hwal came rushing into the warm embrace of her father. She called out, "Father." The General smile "My lovely angel."

"You shall be staying with us and is now a member of this family." he told Hwal.

Hwal stared at Dan Sol. She step forward and held his hand to lead him into the house.

They became mutual friends. The then only girl now had a friend who knew what she was and yet never avoided her. People refer to her as a demon also because she can see things that are yet to happen just by touching people's blood but none dared to touch or harm her because of her status as the General's daughter.

In this house he stayed, with this family he stayed with for years. The General taught him Martial Arts and War Crafts. He became the best among his peers. The Emperor appointed him as the Commander of the Eagle's battalion and mission to tag along with his adopted father to wipe out the remnants of the past dynasty and also all the demon invading Goryo.

Dan Hwal and Dan Sol's relationship led to marriage immediately after his appointment as Commander. They led a happy life until a year later when their first child was born.

On this day, Dal Sol gave birth to a baby boy. There was a joyous atmosphere in the General's house. This joy did not last long when it was discovered that the child was born blind.

There were rumours that the General's home is now haunted by Bulgasal. They never cared, took care of the child as a parent should. Dan Hwal was the only exception. He feared that he will bring more misfortune to this child of his if he get too close to him and so he avoided him.

Life went on.

After six years, Dan Sol put to bed again. This time, she gave birth to a still-birth girl. News reached the General and Commander Hwal while they were away on the battlefield and they rushed home.

"It is you! 'You have brought it into our home.' You are truly cursed by Bulgasal" Dan Sol lamented.
