"Sister Yanran?"
Qi Yan'er fetched some water and shook Nalan Yanran's body.
"Huh?"
Nalan Yanran furrowed her brows and slowly opened her eyes, "Yan'er? Why did I fall asleep?"
"W-what's going on?"
Upon waking, Nalan Yanran noticed the unconscious bodies lying around her.
Qi Yan'er gestured helplessly, "Sister Yanran, you fell into their trap. They're mercenaries. If it weren't for me, you'd be their captive by now!"
"What?" Nalan Yanran was shocked. She never expected the situation to be so perilous.
Wait! Did Yan'er knock them out? How did she manage that?
Nalan Yanran was both frightened and puzzled as she scanned their surroundings, "Where's Mo Li?"
"He..." Qi Yan'er rolled her eyes and pouted, "As soon as he saw they had an Eight-Star Fighter, he ran off!"
"He ran?" Nalan Yanran's beautiful face turned cold with disgust, "Mo Li is truly despicable!"
Seeing Nalan Yanran's anger, Qi Yan'er quickly reminded her, "Sister Yanran, don't dwell on it. Let's get out of here quickly! There might be more mercenaries nearby, and it would be disastrous if they caught up."
"Alright, let's go quickly!"
Nalan Yanran nodded, swiftly picked up Qi Yan'er, and they ran off.
"Ah~ No! Ah~"
As they reached the roadside, Nalan Yanran suddenly frowned, "Yan'er, did you hear something from the forest?"
"No~" Qi Yan'er's big watery eyes were innocent as she shook her head.
"Okay! It must have been my imagination."
Nalan Yanran dismissed the thought and quickly disappeared with Qi Yan'er in her arms.
Only echoes of distant cries remained behind them.
Time ticked by.
Soon, Nalan Yanran and Qi Yan'er reached a safe area.
"Sister Yanran, you can put me down now. They probably won't catch up," Qi Yan'er observed.
"Alright." Nalan Yanran nodded. Even as a three-star fighter, she felt a bit fatigued after such a run.
"Sister Yanran, we're here." Once she set Qi Yan'er down, Nalan Yanran noticed the water bag Qi Yan'er had brought out from somewhere.
Nalan Yanran trusted Qi Yan'er completely. After all, if it weren't for her, she might not have escaped earlier.
"Sister Yan'er, thank you so much," Nalan Yanran said gratefully after taking a large sip from the water bag, her lips still glistening with water.
"Yan'er, tell me, how did you manage to defeat those mercenaries? You said there was an Eight-Star Fighter among them!" Nalan Yanran asked in surprise.
Smiling proudly, Qi Yan'er patted her little wooden box, "I told you before! This treasure chest my father gave me has all sorts of good stuff. Dealing with those rascals was easy!"
"Good stuff? Really?" Nalan Yanran's mind raced. Children were known for their candor, but they couldn't lie!
There was only one explanation for a little girl capable of taking down an Eight-Star Fighter and a group of strong men!
Could it be true that her father was the Mortal Emperor?
At the thought, Nalan Yanran's pretty face underwent a sudden change. Even if her father wasn't the legendary Dou Emperor, he must surely be a hidden powerhouse!
While Nalan Yanran pondered wildly, Qi Yan'er tilted her head curiously and asked, "Sister Yanran, I heard Mo Li say you were going to Wutan City to break off an engagement?"
"What?" Nalan Yanran was shocked by Qi Yan'er's words and felt even more disdain for Mo Li. What had he done while she was unconscious?
"Sister Yan'er, he's telling the truth. I did go to Wutan City to break off an engagement," Nalan Yanran admitted, her expression darkening, "I was promised to someone from birth, but I've never even met him. All I know is he's the third young master of the Xiao family in Wutan City. He used to be a genius, but now... he's just a third-level Fighter."
"Third-level Fighter!" Qi Yan'er exclaimed in surprise, "Isn't that weaker than me?"
"What?" This time, it was Nalan Yanran's turn to be surprised, "Yan'er, you..."
Though Nalan Yanran asked, her curiosity led her to try assessing Qi Yan'er's strength.
But no matter how hard she looked, she couldn't discern anything concrete. There seemed to be a fog obscuring her vision!
Despite being a three-star Fighter herself, she couldn't even gauge a little girl's strength!
Could it be that...
"Yan'er, are you... stronger than me?" Nalan Yanran asked tentatively.
"How could that be?" Qi Yan'er looked crestfallen, "I only have the fifth level of Fighter."
"Only the fifth level?" Nalan Yanran couldn't help but twitch her lips in response.
She was utterly shocked!
A seven-year-old with the fifth level of Fighter?
It was inconceivable!
Nalan Yanran was astonished, to say the least. The only genius she had known who surpassed her talents was Xiao Yan, whose brilliance had never dimmed.
But now, this little girl before her was showing similar potential!
"Indeed," Nalan Yanran agreed, her mind spinning, "Yan'er, you misunderstand. What I meant to say was, at your age, having such strength isn't just strong—it's exceptionally strong!"
"Exceptionally strong?" Qi Yan'er was taken aback, then looked sad, "Sister Yanran, please don't tease. My father told me he was a Dou Zong at seven!"
Nalan Yanran's jaw nearly dropped at that statement. Was such a thing even possible?
Seven years old and already a Dou Zong!
What an unimaginable prodigy her father must be!
Before, she might have doubted it, but recent events had convinced her.
A little girl of only seven not only recognized the mercenaries disguised as teahouse waiters but also incapacitated them!
Who could teach such a child?
Certainly not some man who only knew how to humor children!
No!
As Nalan Yanran stared at this "little monster," she felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
She couldn't handle this on her own.
Otherwise, Qi Yan'er might try to sell her and then count the money!
With that thought, a blue light flashed on Nalan Yanran's finger, and a small arrow appeared in her palm.
"Swish!"
Qi Yan'er looked up, confused, then stared at Nalan Yanran, "Sister Yanran, what are you doing?"
Nalan Yanran: (⊙o⊙)…
She couldn't admit she was scared, so she was trying to scare her away!
"I... I..."
