Lu Hao in Danger

When Lu Hao arrived at the station, it was already late at night. He could just about see the half-moon in the sky above him.

No one in the team had dared to leave after work, all of them staring nervously at the door that held Li Wei at bay. The captain said that they were not allowed to open the door or let Li Wei touch them.

All of them had followed Lu Hao through life and death, so they did not dare to disobey his orders. There was once a team member who acted on his own and caused the failure of the mission. Lu Hao had instantly booted that man out of the team.

However, the sounds of Li Wei crashing into the door were too terrifying. There was already a bulge in the center of the door, and even Yin Chengtian was worried that the door would give way at any moment.

The oldest member of the team, Tian Yongyi, was getting restless. He tried barking some orders at ly beyond the door, but Li Wei did not respond at all. Instead, he started slamming the door even harder.

"Bro, didn't I tell you? He ain't human anymore, he can't understand us! You're just wasting your breath." Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin had personally seen what the zombies could do, but the other members of the team had no idea. All they knew was that Li Wei had a contagious disease that he had passed on to Lin Zhi and his mother. They did not disclose the details.

"Have you watched too many movies, Lil Tian? Zombies don't exist." Tian Yongyi did not believe him, and neither did Guan Shouzhong, Peng Dong, and Xiang Sanjin who stood behind him. Only Mai Wenyang believed him, mostly because he believed Captain Lu and not because he thought zombies actually existed. All he knew was that as long as Captain Lu said not to open the door, the door must not be opened.

Just then, Lu Hao arrived at the station. Even from far away, he could hear the heavy, loud hammering sounds.

Li Wei had been perfectly fine for the past two days, but that evening, he suddenly became violent for some reason. The others could only peek through the bulletproof glass window to see that he had burst out of his cuffs without breaking a sweat.

After that, he started to smash the door with his fists. That was right, with his bare fists. The door the police used to hold suspects was made of stainless steel, but Li Wei's fists were like large metal hammers that he crashed onto the thick door, over and over again.

A normal person's hands would have been completely totaled by now. If Su Jin were here, however, she would immediately realize that Li Wei had awakened to a strength-type special ability!

Lu Hao looked at the door that Li Wei was on the verge of knocking down and frowned. He had his team members hide in the coroner's office at the end of the corridor for now.

He was stronger now that he had taken Su Jin's Marrow Cleansing Pill, and Su Jin had told him that all he had to do was destroy the zombie's brain. That was why he planned to go in alone and shoot Li Wei in the head while the zombie was caught off-guard!

Shi Jin was the first to disagree with his captain's plan. He had nearly been bitten by a zombie before, so he knew first-hand the fear that came with facing a zombie. It was like staring down a wild beast-- no, even scarier than that!

Yin Chengtian and the others protested too. There was no way they would let their captain risk himself alone!

"All of you, go into the coroner's room! This is an order." Lu Hao had his gun locked and loaded.

"Captain!"

"Go inside!" This was his first time facing a zombie too. If anything went wrong, he would be able to minimize the casualties this way. The only problem was Lil Jin… Lu Hao smiled wryly to himself. If anything happened to him, she would probably cry again, huh.

Nevertheless, the training he had undergone since young did not allow him to back down. After his team members went into the coroner's room, he used the key to unlock the door to Li Wei's cell then darted inside!

Li Wei had just completed his evolution at the time, and he had not had anything to eat since he turned into a zombie. When he sensed someone coming into his cell, he immediately pounced at his prey's direction.

Lu Hao reacted by rolling into the corner that was furthest away from Li Wei. He then aimed his gun at Li Wei, but Li Wei's reactions were surprisingly fast. He instantly sprinted at Lu Hao and kicked the gun out of his hand.

Li Wei had a mid of his own!!

Lu Hao had no time to be shocked, however. He had no choice but to engage the excited Li Wei in a barehanded battle!

By now, Lu Hao finally understood how Li Wei had managed to dent that thick metal door. Li Wei's fists were unbelievably strong, and Lu Hao took a punch in the chest when his guard was down for a second. That alone left Lu Hao absolutely certain that he would have ended up with a hole in his torso if he had not taken that Marrow Cleansing Pill!

He had to finish Li Wei off as quickly as possible!

Su Jin had said that zombies could not see. They had to rely on their hearing and their smell. Therefore, Lu Hao grabbed a chair next to him and threw it in the opposite direction.

The sound of the bench crashing into the wall managed to catch Li Wei's attention for just an instant.

Lu Hao used that moment to pick up the gun Li Wei had kicked out of his hand, aiming it at Li Wei's head.

Bang!

Li Wei collapsed on cue.

Lu Hao stood up, his face pale. He stared at Li Wei's corpse on the floor to ensure that Li Wei was well and truly dead.

His team members in the coroner's office heard the gunshot and realized that the fighting sounds had died down too.

"Come on, let's go! Cap'n must have finished him off." Yin Chengtian enthusiastically opened the door and ran out.

The others followed him, running toward Li Wei's cell too.

"Cap'n, you're amazing!" Yin Chengtian said happily.

"Whoa, this is Li Wei?" Tian Yongyi looked at the corpse on the floor in shock.

"See, we told you but you just wouldn't believe us. Do you believe us now? He's no longer human." Shi Jin leaned on Tian Yongyi's shoulder, teasing him nonchalantly.

"All of you, put on your protective clothing and seal up Li Wei's corpse immediately. Make sure none of you touch him. Yin Chengtian, apply for the cremation of his body, and make it urgent!" Lu Hao instructed them.

"Yes, captain!"

Lu Hao left as soon as he gave the orders.

"Why did the captain leave in such a hurry? I thought he'd want to supervise us," said Guan Shouzhong, confused.

"Geez, why do you think? Wouldn't you want to take a shower the first thing after fighting something so disgusting? Now cut the chit-chat and get to work, guys!"

None of them saw the blood leaking out from the corner of Lu Hao's mouth once he turned around.

Lu Hao felt as though his body was on fire. A burning hot flame was blazing from his lungs down to his stomach, and he could barely drag his feet back home.

When Su Jin heard the door open, she immediately ran to him. However, the sight of his pale face stopped her dead in her tracks.

"Lu Hao, Lu Hao! What happened? Are you hurt?!" Su Jin wanted to touch him and see where he was hurt, but Lu Hao pushed her aside and took his gun from its holster, tossing it at her.

"Lil Jin, Li Wei scratched me. If I turn into something like him later, use that. Shoot here." Lu Hao pointed at his temple.

"Why did you risk yourself, Lu Hao? Why didn't you wait for me?" Su Jin burst into tears.

"I'm sorry, it's my fault. Don't cry. I made you sad again." Lu Hao's heart ached when he saw Su Jin's tears. He wanted to wipe the tears off her face, but there was no strength left in his body. He could not even raise his hands anymore.

Slowly, Lu Hao closed his eyes. It seemed that he had let her down in the end.

After Lu Hao closed his eyes, he maintained a shred of his consciousness. He could hear Su Jin's sobs and feel her cool little hand caressing his forehead back and forth.

His lungs were still burning, his whole body felt like it was on fire. All of a sudden, a cool sensation seemed to enter his body from his limbs. It was gentle, patiently trying to put out the fire in his body. Eventually, he felt slightly better, drifting off into a deep sleep…

Su Jin had taken the unconscious Lu Hao into the dimension. When they went in, his body was scalding to the touch. Su Jin felt that his temperature had to be at least 104 degrees Fahrenheit, probably even more!

She had to get his fever down.

Su Jin took Lu Hao to the stream and filled the wooden tub from last time with water again. She put Lu Hao into the water and then paid attention to the wound at his waist. The wound was deep, but it did not turn black.

That was a good sign. It meant that Lu Hao's body was not being infected by the virus!

Amidst her delight, Su Jin summoned her healing vines and wound them gently around Lu Hao's body, focusing all her attention on healing him.

The healing process was extremely long. She had lost all sense of time, but at some point she realized that the water in the tub had turned boiling hot. She hastily switched it out with some fresh water, repeating the steps more times than she could count.

Thankfully, she did not have to manually replace the water. She just had to will the hot water away and will the new water into the tub.

When the water no longer heated up, Lu Hao's body also cooled down completely.

Su Jin heaved a sigh of relief. She had already healed his wound too, but she still used her wood-type special ability to continue rejuvenating Lu Hao's body.
