2 Getting back into story

You might be wondering who I am.

Well...

I am...

Kevin, your beloved protagonist.

So let's get back to the story;

It's been a week since this all began— my paradise or in a more mundane term the apocalypse.

I was your everyday college student, going to campus for lectures that taught everything I wouldn't need for a profession, and on my lucky Wednesday, during one of the several boring classes, the zombie outbreak happened.

We didn't know where it started; it was like a movie where it just happened out of the blue. At first, I panicked like every other individual on campus, but well... I looked at the brighter side of things: there would be no need to work, no need to go to campus, no need to stress myself; it was becoming my paradise.

But first, I had to leave the campus grounds and survive. My campus—the Frithgat City campus—didn't have gates or fences on most parts except for the sports grounds, labs, and parts for miscellaneous activities.

As large as it was, with over 24,000 students and staff included, there weren't enough places to escape; people ran from the fifth floor to the sixth, some from the ground floor up; some fell off the stairs, railings and died during the rush; others died from the zombie bites; and some even got stuck in the elevator while plummeting to their death.

I, who stayed on the thirteenth floor, had it easy. But let's be honest, staying calm and finding a way out are easier said than done.

I pushed open the large window and climbed out as the others watched in dazed; standing on the narrow platform between the window and the 120-foot drop, I looked downward, and the only way to not get splattered was to slide down the 300-foot huge white pillars that supported the main building, which I did though not stealthy but enough not to make stupid noises that would attract 'them'.

As I stepped out of the campus grounds from the back fence, I enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Watching zombies and people play tag, I watched some play hide-and-seek, and even some played 'Red Rover'.

It was comical and though surprisingly, on the street home, there was a traffic jam.

Why?

Well, what else?

People were flooding to leave the city; The outbreak must have happened earlier and had just reached the college grounds later in the day.

Cars honked loudly, people running on vehicles and some hitching rides atop large trucks, they were trying to escape their futility, but all in all, they would still get bitten.

I climbed up one of several ladders that hinged on the residential buildings—the buildings were large, tall, and wide, with a minimum of 20 apartments per floor and 12 floors on average.

From the top of the complex, I could see my inviting atmosphere, the fresh air of the end, the music of the undead, and the chorus of vehicles. It was sublime.

"And so it starts,"

I plugged in my earphones, turned up the volume, and played some phonk.

In the hype of the phonk, I unbuttoned my shirt and shouted at the top of my voice,

"FREEDOM!!!"

Though no one would hear it, it still gratified me. The city buildings were tightly packed, leaving close to no space in between space which made jumping across from one to another easier.

From there, I reached the top of my apartment complex and entered through the door at the top.

The apartment was narrow, with doors at every turn, from front, back, left, and right. The only places without doors were either down, you could say, the roof though.

As I came down, the spiral stairs, you could smell the nauseating atmosphere, and I could see most of the doors were opened and emptied, with clothes lying across the ground, and only a few were left with tightly locked.

"It just happened today,"

"Where are people going through?!,"

I knew they were leaving the city, but I didn't know where and like an apocalypse movie, wherever people go, zombies follow.

On the 21st floor, I opened my apartment door, which, though not a large room, and pretty cramped held my treasures—from my bed, PC, and supplies.

'Time to enjoy the end...'

Now to today...

The city is bustling with smoke rising to the sky, the sun shining fiercely on the group of people below, and cars, trucks, and other vehicles piling up like miniature metal mountains.

No one had dared come out of their houses this week, and I could watch this all happen as I sat on the roof of my 30-floor apartment, eating ice cream. Those who left came back, and those who stayed locked up.

The zombies raided the ground floor of most buildings, leaving only the top and middle floors free. I could only take a few supplies before they broke through the doors; my noodles, stove, and cereals were all left behind because an MF decided to test his luck.

"Fuck, it's finished."

Dropping the bowl from the rooftop, with the metal spoon hitting the ground, the zombies looked up, gazing at the sun that stayed right behind me.

"What U gonna do?"

'I love mocking zombies; they may be dead, but well, who cares?'

Though half of the city has left, the others are still scared to come out, but now I have to find resources to survive.

"I would rather not stand up from here,"

"But…"

"Ahhh…"

Standing up from the edge of the building, I dazed into the cityscape and enjoyed the view.

As I gazed into it, I couldn't help but wonder how the world flipped but…"meh".

From the news, 6 days ago I could get the overall view of things.

The outbreak 'emerged' and began turning people mindless, leading to a fast-paced pandemic that made them behave zombielike.

They lost all rationality, thought processes and sentience, and later they began craving flesh and blood.
