A New Mission

Another week passed. Alex had been training with Lucius diligently, and his instincts towards dodging were improving at a high rate. He was soaking up everything that Lucius had to teach him, and this time without throwing any tantrums.

Steven was also feeling pretty pressured because after Alex started his course on Python, be it the institute or the mansion, he was obsessed. He was learning to implement commands in ways that hadn't been taught yet, and Steven was concerned that he would master the basics within a few more days. This would be terrifying, as even he took 2 months to learn the basics.

Alex, who was enjoying life to his fullest, was becoming more of a hot commodity in their eyes by the second. Except for Lucius, everyone was panicking due to this development, especially Clara.

Last week, Clara had tried to behave like a mother to Alex. She tried to take more interest in his achievements, tried to help him in his computer science course studies, and tried to be there for him as much as possible. But Alex hadn't changed his attitude towards her. He was already pretty defensive when it came to her, but her actions made him feel even more creeped out.

She was at her wit's end. Lucius had already denied her requests to influence him towards their side, and Jane had decided to take her father's side. The only way to reach him was their other two daughters and Steven because Claudia already had sour relations with him.

"Why is everyone being so difficult?"

Her question was justified in her opinion. Alex was a kid that had tremendous potential, and their family valued potential. So why they weren't giving their all to bring him towards their side had been a mystery.

"Anyways, I have to continue with my efforts. If she thinks that I won't be able to rope him in, I have to prove her wrong."

Clara wasn't over the fact that she had been humiliated by Sylvia previously.

-----------------------------------------

Alex was in his room, meditating. He was liking the technique passed on by his master because just by taking breaths in a pre-determined pattern, he was able to clear his mind.

Clara entered his room, without knocking. He was done with this woman. She had been pestering him without halt, and he was not looking forward to another conversation with her.

"Alex, I brought food."

This whole act that she was putting up a kind and loving mother was getting really annoying. She wasn't even good at playing it out.

"I know that I probably annoy you, so let's cut to the chase. I am here today to give you your first official mission from the Grey family."

The expression on his face didn't change, but he was listening. This was a very important matter, and he was willing to overlook the messenger's annoying voice this time.

"You need to kill a person from the senate, and his death should not be attributed to the Grey family. You need to be swift and precise, without causing any ruckus that leads to attention being drawn towards us, and that is the main objective."

Alex finally opened his eyes. This wasn't an easy mission, which he was expecting because he was pretty new in the business.

"I know that you think that this mission is a bit high profile considering your experience, but seeing that you have already finished a mission with a far higher difficulty than this, I am putting my trust in you. Make sure that you don't let me down."

From the looks of it, this was supposed to be a solo mission. Alex was even more surprised at the details in the file in his hand, which showed that this mission was a mission given out by the Letifer collective to the Grey family so her passing it to him was surprising, to say the least. It was an excellent move to get his guard a bit down, and that was exactly what happened.

Alex spoke to her for the first time in a while, and asked,

"What is the time limit?"

There was no time limit specified in the file, so it was a genuine question.

"10 days. It's my time limit to you, as the actual time limit hasn't been specified, and the other assassins from the major families will start their own attempts after that time. You can ask for help from anyone but Lucius and Jane. I won't allow them to interfere with this mission."

She wanted to isolate him from them for a while. She had already informed both of them about this, so Alex was pretty much alone in this mission, except for logistics support which would be provided by Steven.

He was finally going to go on a mission again. This time, he had to make sure that there were no accidents.

"Thank you for the chance, Mam."

As much as he didn't like her, she did give him his mission, so showing some courtesy wouldn't hurt too much.

"No need to thank me, Alex. You need to know that you are destined to be a great person. Just don't forget who you are and how you got to that greatness."

After saying that, she left. She had accomplished the first step in her plan, it was time for Phase B.

----------------------------------------

Steven was in his room, going over the mission details that had been mailed to him beforehand. Along with him, Claudia was also in her room, reading the information that her mother had mailed to her.

Both of them had smiles on their face, for Steven, it was a chance to show Alex how important he could be in a mission, For Claudia, it was cleaning up her name in his mind. This could prove to be a turning point in all of their lives, so it was a sleepless night for all three of them.
