You are my Best Friend

Gio sat on top of the hill next to the weeping willow tree. He stared up at the starry night sky which was a view that he had never seen and never cared to see. He had never truly wanted anything that included the outside world. He was never curious about what was outside of his home. He never really cared enough. Everything that included the outside world he saw behind a blue tinted glass. It was a little uncomfortable for him to see things without the color of blue or white around.

Sarah walked up behind him and sat next to him. Gio had gotten significantly skinnier since he was last awake. His hair was also long enough that it was now reaching his back.

Sarah: Are you okay?

Gio: Yes I just wanted some fresh air. There were just a lot of people I have never seen in there. I just wanted some room.

Sarah: I get it.

Gio: ...

Sarah: Did you dream about anything?

Gio: ...

Sarah: I mean you were asleep for a while-

Gio: I know what you mean. I don't want to talk about it.

Sarah: Oh ... okay.

Gio: I remember arguing with Kyle and then everything went black. And I have a feeling you were there. Am I right?

Sarah: ... You are.

Gio: ... I forgive you.

Sarah's face lit up with surprise and joy.

Sarah: Really? What a relief. I was sacred yo-

Gio: But I can never forgive Kyle for what he has done to us.

Sarah: ... Us?

Gio: Yes, us. You are the youngest out of all of us so I am guessing he used you, exploited you. I don't blame you Sarah, don't worry. But Kyle ... he used your kind and sensitive nature against you. He is selfish. I never asked him to bring me along. I actually told him otherwise. But he wanted to tell me what was best for me. I hate him. And now he left before I could wake up to confront him. So not only is he a selfish manipulator but he is a coward too. I never cared to see this. So I think I am going to go back tomorrow.

Sarah: Wait what?

Gio: Tomorrow I am going to go back to Raymond. I hope you will come with me. I mean after all I was so much happier there.

Those words ... they were now engraved in Sarah's mind. Those words ruined her.

Sarah: But ... but.

Gio looked at Sarah and saw that she had completely broken out into tears.

Gio: Sarah?

Sarah: But I wasn't happy there. I hate Kyle too for leaving. He broke his promise to me. But he saved me. He saved us.

Sarah's tears were completely uncontrollable. She tried wiping them away with her hands but they were falling faster than she could wipe them.

Sarah: I wasn't happy there ... it hurt to be there.

The girl's tears weighed on Gio's soul. It is true that he felt hurt, saddened, betrayed. But what he saw in front of him made him feel like none of that mattered. He would put all his emotions aside if that meant that the girl in front of him would stop crying. At that moment he just wanted her to be happy.

Sarah: Gio ... you are all I have left. You are my best friend.

Even though Gio was unable to understand the weight of those words and wouldn't for a long time, he knew the braver and strength it took for Sarah to say it.

Gio: If you are willing please tell me.

Sarah: ...

Gio: Tell me what Raymond did.

Sarah walks out of the warp with her heart pounding so hard her chest hurt. She was standing in a room with blood on the walls and floor that was never cleaned. It also had multiple human sized tube's all around the room and a blood stained table in the middle of the room. It smelled terrible in the room so much so that Sarah thought she would throw up.

Raymond: Who is going first?

Sarah was too scared to speak. She just couldn't find her voice.

Kyle: I will.

Raymond: I don't even know why I bother asking.

Kyle walks and lays flat on the table. Four cuffs come out of the table and lock around Kyle's wrists and ankles. Raymond reaches into his lab coat pocket and pulls out a card. The card had a small picture of him on it and other small words Sarah couldn't see. He holds the card up to the wall and a panel flips up. Three different buttons were under this panel. Raymond pushed the one in the middle and the lights in the room dim. The ceiling above the table Kyle was laying on opened up. A machine that was too difficult for Sarah to describe came down from the opened up ceiling. The machine reached for Kyle's neck and started to slowly cut it open. Kyle struggled and jerked his body but the cuffs of the table held him down. Kyle's blood sprayed across the room. Sarah was now able to see his throat, esophagus, and larynx through the big and deep cut that the machine created. Raymond walks over to the table with a glass vial. He holds the vial beside the table and collects some of the blood that was leaking from Kyle's neck.

Raymond: I will never understand why she needs this.

Guards in black walk through the warp and take the cuffs off of Kyle. They pick up Kyle's body and a wall opens. The hallway that the wall opened up was dark so Sarah wasn't able to see down it. The guard's take Kyle down this dark hallway. They always took Kyle down that dark hallway.

Raymond: Sarah.

Sarah looks at Raymond with tears and snot running down her face.

Raymond: It is your turn.

Sarah: Sorry. I can't.

Gio: ...

Gio looked at Sarah with concern.

Sarah: Gio please don't leave. You are all I have left.

Gio: ... But you have met and made attachments with all of these people. You don't need me.

Sarah: Yes I do. Every day I would wait next to your bed and wait for you to wake up so I wouldn't have to feel alone anymore. I know you think you aren't important to me but you are everything to me. You are all I have left. You are my Best Friend.

Gio: ... Okay.

Sarah looked up at Gio.

Gio: I will stay here with you.
