002 - regret.

Grayson Byrne

What the actual fuck?

He stares at the small vulnerable girl in his arms, thinking everything back to what she said to him when she broke down in tears on his doorstep.

He never thought he will see her again in person, he hoped not to remember what happened when he left her with his best friend. He thought it was for the better because the trauma he went through when he was away those years, it left him with nightmares and a brain damage. He couldn't stay with them longer knowing his unstable condition. He was devastated to leave but he had to.

After he went to college, there were people who were after his father so they watched him too. Taken against his will and kidnapped to repay the debt his father owed to them and since his father died in a suicide, it left him to be the one who can fix it. He begged them to forget it, to free him, he didn't have that much money so they tortured him for weeks in that awful dark basement till his grandfather showed up with the money to free him. He saved him. But there was a catch. There was always a catch. If he trades his life to become a serial killer for the business his grandfather owns. So he did, without hesitation. So he can finally be free from that awful place.

While he studied, he learned how to kill and how to be best in his field. He learned not to show his emotions because it showed that you're weak. He was trained to be an assassin. It left him with scars and emotional damage in the end.

He promised himself that his best friend and Ray's little sister can't know the truth, they couldn't handle it so he distanced himself from them, never coming back. It was for the best. His demons were too dangerous to play with.

Now after Aurora coming back and breaking down, reminding him everything he wanted to forget, he felt crushed, like someone stabbed him all over. Again. And again.

Clenching his jaw, he tried to mask his emotions, realizing his best friend is dead. His brother who was there for him for years when he needed him and now his baby sister was in danger too. Because of him. Because he left them.

He fucking left them without any word and contact information if something happens to them. It was all his fault.

Forcing himself not to cry like he was trained to do, he pulled the precious girl closer to his chest while taking her to his bedroom. She was a reminder that he lost his brother. She was the one thing in his life he treasured most when he was with them. She was everything to him he hoped to avoid so she doesn't get hurt. He was broken. Like everything in his life.

Climbing in with his one knee to support himself, he gently puts her in his bed so not to wake her up if she suddenly gets conscious but one sniff of her long golden hair gets him hard enough to groan, sudden voice creeping into his mind.

-Kill her.

He ignores it, trying to suppress the urge to smash his head on the wall. His hands start to tremble when he tucks the girl under the blankets, noting her long lashes and heart-shaped nose. He glances down at her cherry lips and bites his own till he leaves a sour taste in his mouth, blood trickling past his lips.

-Kill her! You know you want to

The deep voice taunts him with an eagerness.

"Shut up," Grayson snarls in anger and steps away from the girl so not to hurt her if he reacts to the voice in his mind. If he loses, he will really kill her and that would be the thing he regrets the most in the end. He needed to go. And fast.

-Why so shy all of a sudden? Because she is a girl? Hahhaahaa, fucking pussy! Just kill her and you will not have to bother with her anymore, she's a fucking burden to you!

"Shut the fuck up! Shut up!" He twirls around, the anger boiling inside of him, the urge to hurt the girl he cares about, it was killing him inside.

Forcing himself to stalk to the door so he can leave, he grips the door handle tightly, the metal groaning under his hand due the strong hold. Feeling sweat on his forehead, he pulled a deep breath in to calm down but the voice came back. It always do.

-You're so weak. You're much better than this

Gritting his teeth hard, he pushes himself out of the door and slams it shut, forgetting about the sleeping girl in his bed. Locking the door with with a key and his password on the keypad for safety reasons, he goes to the kitchen and punches a wall, leaving a hole in it, his skin bleeding. But he hardly felt it.

He didn't know what to do with her knowing he is not normal. If she gets too close and personal, he will surely hurt her even it's not on purpose.

He was fucked.
