Asher didn't see his daughter until she was very close to them. He was still struggling with what Pepper had asked him to say.

"Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't love me, tell me it was all a lie and I will leave you" Pepper told him again.

Asher knew there was no way he could sell that kind of lie because he loved her.

He loved her through his pain, his love for Pepper had been consistent even when he really wanted to stop loving her. Even when he hoped like hell he wouldn't. 

Most nights since he came back from the Caribbean, he hoped like hell he had the power to turn off his feelings for her but it was just one more thing he was powerless against.

"Say it" she told him while she held his gaze.

Asher blinked like he was clearing a fog that clouded his eyes. He ran his fingers through his somewhat rough golden hair and he looked away.
