Chapter 34
“Tom, Noah, good to see you,” Chris said.
“Good to see you too, but not like this,” Tom said.
“Yeah.”
“Chris, this is Father John Cullen from Good Shepherd.”
The priest walked over to the bed and shook Chris’ hand. “Tom tells me that you were in church Sunday morning,” the priest said.
“Yes, Sir. It had been a while since I went to church, but on the eve of surgery, I somehow felt the need.”
“Good for you, and I hope we’ll see you again.”
“Very likely, but I have to get out of this place first.”
“Chris,” Tom said, “if you need to talk to someone about all this, John is very good at that sort of thing.”
“Yeah,” Noah said, “he helped me a lot when I was dealing with my horrible Southern Baptist family. There’s a long story there.”
“Maybe I’ll hear it sometime,” Chris said.
“Stick around long enough and you will,” Noah said.
Mickey came into the room, and the others stayed long enough for Mickey to meet Father John.
