“That’s a tempting picture,” Chris said, “but we need to hit the shower.”
“If we must.”
“Ted’s upstairs doing the same thing, and I’ve promised him a trip to the Golden Arches for supper.”
“And after that?”
“Maybe a drive over to Asheville to visit Barnes and Noble.”
“You talked me into it.”
AS MICKEY DROVE them to Waynesville, Chris turned to Ted, “Well, Ted. What do you think of the North Carolina mountains?”
“I like them.”
“I thought you would. I don’t know if you ever went to the Ozarks in Arkansas, but the Smoky Mountains are a lot nicer.”
“No, Sir, I never went there.”
They went inside McDonald’s to eat, rather than eat on the run, and from there, they drove over to Asheville.
In Barnes and Noble, Chris said, “Okay, Ted. You can have, let’s say, three books today, so choose carefully. You’ve got thirty minutes.”
“Yes, Sir,” Ted said, and headed for the children’s section.
“What are you going to have, babe?” Mickey said.
