Chapter 52
The two boys finished their desserts first, and Ted said, “May we be excused to go back upstairs?”
“Certainly,” Chris said. “Go have fun.”
“Can we help clear the table?” Sarah said.
“Don’t even think about it,” Chris said. “Mickey and I have the cleanup detail down to a fine art, and we’ll take care of it before we go to bed tonight.”
“Why don’t we take our wine into the living room?” Mickey said. “There’s another bottle in there, in case anybody wants a refill.”
The group adjourned to the living room, and as their glasses were being refilled, Sarah looked over at Mitch and said, “Jamie’s a sweet little boy. Where’s his mother?”
“Killed in an automobile accident. It’s kind of a strange story; I didn’t even know I had a son until her lawyer tracked me down after she was killed.”
