1 Previous Life

I had just arrived at the supermarket and was browsing the aisles, picking up some groceries for the week. It was a typical Saturday morning, and the store was crowded with other shoppers doing the same.

Suddenly, there was a commotion coming from the front of the store. I heard shouting and the sound of smashing glass.

I quickly made my way to the front, trying to see what was happening.

That's when I saw them. A group of thugs had stormed the supermarket, wielding weapons and demanding money and valuables from anyone in sight.

They were dangerous, and I could feel my heart racing as I realized I was in the middle of a violent situation.

Instinctively, I tried to find a way to escape. But one of the thugs spotted me and began to approach, pointing a gun in my direction. I knew I had to act fast if I wanted to survive.

With no other options, I decided to fight back. I picked up a nearby bottle of soda and hurled it at the thug, hoping to distract him. It hit him in the shoulder, and he stumbled back for a moment.

But my victory was short-lived. Before I could react, another thug had come up behind me and struck me with the butt of his gun. The blow was hard, and I felt myself start to fall to the ground.

As I lay there, in pain and confusion, I realized that I might not make it out of this alive. I thought of my family and friends, and the life I had built for myself. It all seemed so fragile and fleeting at that moment.

But I also knew that I couldn't give up. I had to keep fighting, even if it seemed hopeless. So I mustered up all the strength I had left and tried to get back up.

But it was too late. The thugs had already turned their attention elsewhere, and I could feel my body starting to shut down. I knew that this was the end.

In my last moments, I thought about all the things I had wanted to do, all the places I had wanted to see. I wished that I had more time, but I also knew that I had given it my all.

And with that, everything went dark.

As soon as Evan took his final breath, he found himself floating in a vast, featureless void. He was weightless and free, and yet he felt a strange sense of neutrality.

It was as if he were a spectator watching his own life from a distance.

Then, he heard a voice, clear and booming.

"Greetings, traveler. You have passed on from the mortal world, but your journey is not over yet. You have been chosen to undertake a great challenge, one that will determine your fate in the afterlife."

Evan listened intently, feeling a sense of anticipation. He had always been curious about what came after death, and now he was about to find out.

"The challenge is simple," the voice continued. "You must travel through the Nine Realms, each of which is ruled by a powerful deity.

In each realm, you will face a trial that will test your strength, your wits, and your courage. If you can complete all nine trials, you will be reborn in another world, where you can start a new life."

Evan nodded, eager to begin his journey. He had always been up for a challenge, and this was the ultimate one.

Suddenly, the void around him dissolved, and he found himself standing in a vast, snowy wasteland. A fierce wind was blowing, and he could barely see a few feet in front of him.

He looked around, trying to get his bearings when he heard a voice call out to him.

"Halt, traveler!" It was a woman's voice, clear and sharp. "You are in the realm of Niflheim, and I am its ruler, Hel. You must prove your worth if you wish to pass through."

Evan took a deep breath and stepped forward, ready for whatever lay ahead. He knew that he had to complete the trials of the Nine Realms if he wanted to be reborn in another world. And so, he began his journey through the icy wastes of Niflheim, the first of the Nine Realms.

The first trial was a test of endurance. Evan had to trek through the tundra, battling against the biting winds and the cold that threatened to freeze him to the bone.

He had to hunt for food and find shelter to survive. It was a grueling trial, but he emerged victorious, proving his strength and resilience.

The second realm was Muspelheim, the realm of fire. Here, Evan faced a test of his quick thinking and strategy. He had to navigate a maze of fiery obstacles, avoid traps, and outwit a cunning foe.

He emerged victorious, his mind sharp and his wits honed.

The third realm was Asgard, the realm of the gods. Here, Evan faced a test of his courage and morality.

He had to prove his worth to the gods, facing off against powerful foes and standing up for what he believed in. He emerged victorious, his heart filled with bravery and his soul pure.

The fourth realm was Vanaheim, the realm of the nature gods. Here, Evan faced a test of his connection to the natural world.

He had to navigate a maze of plants and animals, learning to work with nature instead of against it. He emerged victorious, his spirit in tune with the world around him.

The fifth realm was Jotunheim, the realm of the giants. Here, Evan faced a test of his physical strength and combat prowess.

He had to fight off hordes of giant beasts and overpower mighty foes. He emerged victorious, his body honed and his muscles bulging.

The sixth realm was Svartalfheim, the realm of the dwarves. Here, Evan faced a test of his craftsmanship and ingenuity.

He had to forge weapons and tools, using his knowledge and creativity to craft intricate and powerful items. He emerged victorious, his hands skilled and his mind sharp.

The seventh realm was Alfheim, the realm of the elves. Here, Evan faced a test of his speed and agility. He had to navigate a treacherous forest, leaping and dodging through obstacles and outrunning dangerous creatures.

He emerged victorious, his reflexes quick and his feet nimble.

The eighth realm was Helheim, the realm of the dead. Here, Evan faced a test of his empathy and understanding.

He had to navigate a labyrinth of spirits and lost souls, listening to their stories and helping them find peace. He emerged victorious, his heart full of compassion and his mind open to new perspectives.

The ninth and final realm was Nidavellir, the realm of the dwarves. Here, Evan faced a final test, one that would determine his ultimate fate.

He had to prove his mastery of all the skills he had learned in the previous trials, combining them into a single display of power and skill. He emerged victorious, his spirit shining bright and his soul soaring.

As Evan completed the final trial, he felt a premature rush of energy. He was lifted, up, up, until he was floating in a bright, white light.

He felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over him, and he knew that he had completed the challenge of the Nine Realms.

The voice spoke to him once more, its tone warm and congratulatory.

"Congratulations, Evan. You have completed the challenge of the Nine Realms,
