Mission [Part-1]

"Are you sure about this?"

Naruto firmly stared into Boruto's eyes, he felt at ease as he saw no hesitation in those cerulean pupils of his son.

"Yes, Hokage-sama. I have decided not to join any of the teams, I want to experience the hardships of being a shinobi alone, plus I firmly believe that I'd be at my peak state working alone"

The newest system established by Konoha was an idea of groups/forces specialized in one field.

Genin Tracking Unit, Genin Interrogation Unit, Genin Combat Unit, Genin Medical Unit, and Genin Mercenary.

Same for the next Rank: Chunin.

Jonin, however, was still the old-fashioned way.

Boruto, after considering the pros and cons of being in a team, given a day to decide, chose the Genin Mercenary.

Unlike the rest of the units/forces, Mercenary worked alone, accepting all kinds of requests, and wasn't capped on choices. Which was perfect for Boruto who wanted to explore and increase his strength in every department.

Of course, the risks of working alone carried huge risks, but Boruto had no other choice but to take risks to rapidly increase his strength.

The Genins couldn't, however, choose to their liking, every graduated Geninwere evaluated in every department, including Boruto, and was set into different units whether they liked it or not.

The only exception, as the situation now played out as you see, was Boruto. This was because he was titled "Jack-of-all-trades" after the evaluation, and was given free will to choose.

The others naturally raised their voices seeing such discrimination, but were directly told to keep their mouths shut by the Seventh Hokage himself.

The Genins had no choice but to grit their teeth in frustration for not getting a choice to pick what they considered they were talented in.

But the instructors paid no heed to their selfish words, they wanted proof and the Genins failed to deliver.

If they had put in a bit of effort in the past to their 'talents', maybe things would've been different.

But, Alas, times stop for no one.

Naruto nodded his head in approval, he signed Boruto's mercenary card and handed it over to him.

"Keep it safe, you can print a duplicate just in case"

Boruto nodded in full seriousness, he looked at the card. There was a 4x4 cube-shaped photo of him on the right, with his evaluation letter and name along with the Genin rank on the left side.

'A-Class, Boruto Uzumaki, Genin, third-class Mercenary"

Mercenary was split into three classes, Third, Second, and lastly first-class. They represented the total missions completed and would go up every hundred.

And after reaching first-class Genin rank, they would automatically be promoted to Chunin after completing the four hundredth mission.

Of course, only C or above missions were counted as a 'completed mission, any other mission under the rank C was considered null, thus, it wouldn't be registered on the card.

Boruto slid the card into his pocket and exited the Hokage building, he went out to purchase the necessary tools and supplies to start his Shinobi life.

After completing his purchases, he went for the Mercenary Guide class, which only lasted a single lesson, this was to explain the rules and regulations of being a Mercenary, what their limits were as a Genin Mercenary, and some real-world knowledge speech to make them ready for what's to come.

After the lesson was over, Boruro walked through the streets of Konoha, his eyes glued to the map in his hands.

"Hmm"

He reached a dead end, Boruto raised his brows and looked at the map again.

"Strange... I'm in the right place... Maybe"

A sudden thought crossed his mind, walking up to the dead end, Boruto placed his hands on the wall.

"I see"

He felt no physical tough, drawing his mercenary card, he placed it on the wall... Suddenly, he was inside a hall.

There were many people dressed in different outfits, but they all had one thing in common, they were alone.

The hall was spacious, looking around, Boruto finally spotted the receptionist.

Walking over, he slid his card inside a small rectangular hole, his card was swiftly collected and returned within seconds.

His card, however, looked different, there was a blue glow on it, Boruto pressed his finger on the card.

The next second, a blue holographic screen was hovering in front of him, displaying the details of his mission.

On the right bottom was a "next" option, on the left "previous", and on the middle "Accept".

Boruto quickly understood the mechanics and started scrolling for an appropriate mission. Soon, after a solid minute and a half, he finally found out about a mission.

It was C rank, that was his limit now, to unlock B rank missions, he had atleast complete fifty C rank missions, and to unlock A, Twenty-five B rank missions.

Boruto clicked on "Accept", and the holographic screen turned off, he grabbed his card and glanced at it.

On the right bottom was written: C rank: 0.

Pending: 1

He walked over to the exit door and placed his card on the metallic entrance, just like before, he then suddenly found himself back at the dead end.
