CHAPTER 32: FRESH BLOOD (1)

An early morning sun lit up the surrounding areas, its elegant rays shining through the cracks in the roof. Landing directly on her face, the bright light woke her. She sat up suddenly, her head aching as her mind was dazed. Remembering all that had transpired she couldn't help but call out to the DeC to confirm to herself that she wasn't crazy.

"Ulm, hello?" She asked expectantly.

{I see you are finally awake. I hope you enjoyed your last bit of rest as such opportunities will be very rare from now on}

"What's that supposed to mean?"

{Exactly what I said}

She stood up, deciding to get herself clean before diving into this mess. A few moments passed and she was done. Wearing a pair of jogging clothes she dusted off. A simple pair of pants and a hoodie.

She opened the door as it creaked loudly before heading out. The feeling of being able to run again was invigorating, as if a missing part of her had finally returned.

She left the slums, heading into the busy urban parts of the city. The day was still anew, and not many people had risen from slumber. The streets were practically empty giving her the opportunity to enjoy herself to the fullest.

"Hmm, what was that status page called again?" She wondered aloud.

The golden screen suddenly appeared before her, blocking her vision as she crashed into a man out of the corner the street.

He had short, lush, pink hair that was slightly coiled. He was a tall, muscular man, easily above 6 feet. His presence was intimidating, as his beautiful scarlet eyes stared me down, their coldness practically making me shiver.

He was wearing a simple dark red suit with thin black stripes. In his left hand was a large book, held open by his thumb, while in the other was a dark brown walking cane with a golden handle.

He looked down on me with an all too serious expression before speaking.

"Excuse me, it seems that I was too engrossed in this book to notice you." He said with a smile.

"No, it's my fault, I should have seen you." I replied.

"I haven't seen you here before, and I've been taking this route for a very long time." He stated.

{The host needs to leave, now}

'What, why?'

{The killing intent he's giving off}

'What're you talking about? Killing intent, this is just a regular guy'

"Excuse me." He said drawing back her attention.

"Y-Yeah."

"You haven't answered my question." He said with an emotionless tone.

I stepped back subconsciously as his glare put me on edge.

"Do I make you nervous? Miss." He asked as everything went silent.

I chuckled slightly, trying to hide my nervousness.

"O-Of course not, I just thought you were a little too close." I managed to squeak out.

"Oh really, now do I?"

He said before stepping even closer, holding my chin. His eyes piercing into my soul.

*HAHAHA*

He chuckled to himself before letting me go.

"Sorry about that, I just wanted to see the look on your face. Now do you mind telling me how long you've been jogging here."

I hesitated for a moment, but something drew me to him.

"Oh, well I just started today."

He nodded his headed before he continued his walk.

"Well then, I hope to see you again Miss?" He paused.

"Sasha." I quickly responded.

"Chun Jin-Ho." He answered before heading off, still engrossed in that book."

"Why did I give him my name? A total stranger who is said to be dangerous."

{Fate truly is a trickster, isn't it?"

The system said, confusing her for a moment

"What do you mean by that?"

{He is someone you might eventually cross paths with}

"As an ally?"

{Quite the opposite}

"Then shouldn't I be stopping him?"

{I advise that you avoid any and all interactions with him}

I heeded the systems words before deciding to focus on my profile.

She sat down on a nearby bench before looking at her stats, wondering what to do.

{Would you like me to explain the functions of each?}

"Yeah, I think that's better than pressing random buttons."

{Each point in speed, health, dexterity and intelligence increases your maximum speed of 40km/hr by 50%}

{Dexterity is the maximum force you can endure before being damaged, while intelligence is your ability to understand, store and circulate Qi. Intelligence is also tightly linked with your perception of speed and reaction time}

(A/N): Remember she got MOST of the info needed last chapter, so she knows all about Qi.

"Alright, let's try this out." She then distributed her stats.

"This should be alright for now." She stated.

Then a burst of energy erupted through her body as she felt herself become increasingly more powerful.

"What about strength? If I'm going to get anything done, speed isn't all I need." This however got me some looks from passersby, as the city got more and more busy.

'Great, now they think I'm crazy' She thought, but she wasn't wrong.

{I'm you've heard of Newton before? You were a science major before dropping it all for sports}

"Force is mass and acceleration, yeah I know."

{Good, well so long as you are fast and durable enough, the force of your punches shouldn't be an issue}

*Sigh*

She then decided to head back to her place.

Sometime later she arrived, only to see the two brutes from before waiting.

"Huh, so you're finally back. Since when could you walk?" The taller one taunted.

"Bloody hell, you're right. Did you spend all our money on getting those twigs to work again?"

Then the taller one brought out a pistol, while the other brought out a dagger.

I instantly got my guard up.

"Well, I don't see any money so you're coming with us, darling." He said before aiming at me.

He pulled the trigger, and in milliseconds the projectile was right about to pierce my knee.

"Ha, our clients preferred you as a cri-" He stopped talking, realizing something was wrong.

Then a warm sensation oozed down his neck.

"Huh." He reached out and grabbed the left side of is skull, but found that there was nothing there.

He then fell over with a thud, his brain matter splattered all over the room. Behind him was the same metal pole Sasha used before, planted into the side of the room.

Sasha didn't know what happened. One moment she dodged the bullet, the next he was dead.

"Mike, MIKE!!!" He roared before heading over to his partner's dead body.

"No, what did I do?" Sasha couldn't comprehend taking another human life, just as most normal people would.

It would really take a ruthless monster to kill without hesitation. She panicked, running away as fast as she could manage. She crashed into multiple homes and structures due to her poor perception of her new speed. Once again, she found herself running. Not in fear of a monster, but in fear of being the monster. She found her way to the other side of the city in a few minutes, resting in one of the numerous public parks.

She breathed heavily, her entire being in shock as the scene replays before her eyes, over and over, and over again. She huddled into a ball and cried her eyes out.

{You did what was necessary}

{The host has received 50exp for slaying an E-class threat}

This infuriated her. A human life couldn't be measured in its value, yet, that's exactly what the system is doing.

"How can you be so heartless, merciless, how can you be so cruel?"

{Need I remind you that that piece of human filth was going to disable you and sell to the highest bidder as a slave}

{Your compassionate nature is a weakness. You are not one of them, you have been elevated to godhood; and as such they should know their place}

She looked up at the messages, as a voice rang in her ears.

'Are these really the values of the heavens above?' She wondered.

'If so, then just how cruel would God have to be?'

Some miles away a phone call was made. An old man in a luxurious suit sat in his mansion, receiving a call from one of his subordinates.

"Hmm, so that wench killed Mike." He said with a calm expression, before standing up.

"Just another problem that needs to be dealt with."

Another day came, and Sasha slept outside that night. She knew she couldn't return back, and even needed to flee the city. The entire city would soon hear of her, and she'd be targeted from every angle.

{The host has been given a mission}

"What kind of mission is that? I'm trying to get away from this city's criminals, remember?"

{A Saintess of God should not fear anything that opposes her}

She cleaned the tears off her face, standing up and picking herself up. She was cold, tired, and broken mentally. But she can't complain, this is a much better alternative than being sold like product.

"Fine." She said with a hint of disdain.

{You chose this job, remember that}

"Job? I remember it being a blessing."

There was no response.

"Where should I start? I'm not exactly a detective."

{The missions are for you to complete, not for me to guide you}

She just about had enough of the system's stubbornness.

"If that's your response then how about I just sit here and do nothing."

She knew it wouldn't be in the system's best interest for her to die. The time wasted would certainly be counterproductive to heavens goal.

{…}

{If that's your decision then I shall find a new host}

"Huh?"

{Initiating DeC remo-}

"Wait!" I shouted.

"You can't be serious?"

{Well, I am. You are just another human, as replaceable as the next}

I was shocked. Is this how celestials see us?

"Fine, I'm heading back to see whether I can track him."

{Good, here is his current location}

Then a map of the city appeared, and on it were two dots, one blue and the other red.

"So, you were prepared to help me." I stated.

{Of course I am, you just needed to know that you are not special; yet}

The streets were filled with cars and people of all shades of society. Following the map, I was found his location and could estimate his destination.

"If I move too fast won't my surroundings be destroyed?"

{Don't worry about that, your effects on the environment will be mostly nullified}

"That's good to know." She said before running at full speed.

She appeared as ablur, speeding out of the park and unto the busy roads. Carefully she moved between the cars, ensuring she didn't damage anything. Then in a truly superhuman blast of speed she ran with a golden aura emitting of off her in form of a trail. The divine energy filled every fiber of her being, as it seeped out through her skin. Her already golden hair shone even brighter, defying gravity as it pulsated from the energy. In mere moments she arrived at his location at a speed that surpasses human perception.

"Now this may be a bit risky."

She then slid under the vehicle he was being transported in, and silently latched onto it.

"Hmm, what was that noise." Asked one of the passengers.
