589 The Battle that Wasn't

My emotions let their opinions be known that night, featuring my Sin of Wrath, suggesting Barbarian and Curse Eater as potential classes for me. But all of them faded as the Sun, ever relentless, jabbed at me through my eyeballs. I'd been expecting that to feel worse, but it was the normal burning sensation that I had yet to get used to in my current life.

"Boooyyy!" Wicked Woman boomed from the tent. "Go start fetching water!"

I looked at the pot lying in the embers of the fire. I ought to be fetching wood, I thought. But nothing good came from asking any of the adults to think. "I have the pail out here, I'll start now."

Gods, but three adults can waste a lot of water when they want to.

"Why don't we have anything for breakfast?" Crueler asked.

Blackheart gargled and spat. "One of us can go for rations at noon."

"Well, I want to eat NOW." Crueler insisted.
