Bullied

"Leave that guy for me to distract while you finish off as many as you can, when I need your help I will call for you but don't kill it unless there is no other option"

He ordered before stowing his crossbow and taking out his grapple hook

"Ready? Go!"

Charging at the leader with his grapple he managed to gain its attention, his brave attack caused it to growl before running toward him as well

Taking aim he shot the ever-useful hook but his target wasn't the trees like always, instead it was the big baddie

The hook was nowhere near the speed of arrows and bolts, furthermore the wolf saw him aim it and was already swivelling out of the way before he pulled the trigger thus it was an embarrassing miss

"Gotcha"

Or so it was lead to believe until Yu reeled the hook back while tugging it in the attacking wolf's direction, successfully hooking it to its back foot

Seeing the wolf ignore the thing attached to its leg momentarily and bite at him with its large maw he leaned back, centring his gravity down while sliding forward bringing the leader's butt up in the air as it did a frontflip unwillingly

Chomp! Bam

The big maw clenched hard with the sound of teeth clicking against each other free of any prey within, then its owner fell on its back with an angry growl

Quickly getting up the leader gave chase to the prey that dared humiliate it

"Yelp!"

The cries of its underlings made it turn its head back for a second to witness them getting their heads cleanly sliced off by the dangerous wolf, his guess on its hidden power was correct after all

"Where are you looking!"

The sound of the grapple being shot along those words made it involuntarily jump up to avoid whatever was coming at it while it faced the two-legged creature once again, a look of scorn on its face, did it think it would fall for the same trick twice? It would not dodge but jump this time around!

"Grrr?"

The scorn didn't last long though when it saw the line reeling under it, realising that this might have been a bad idea

Proving its feelings to be correct yet again the hook managed to stab at its tail and with Yu's pull the big guy spun half a circle, awkwardly falling on the ground

"Grrraar!"

Not caring about its companions no longer it gave chase to the despicable thing in a bid to rip into shreds

"Yeah, follow me dummy"

Very much enjoying his time Yu led the big guy through the dense woods, away from its pack while Lyra made short work of them so they could then gang up on this one to capture it alive

The chase went on for quite some time, Yu's smart application for the grapple brought the wolf many frustrations, every time he hooked it up a branch it didn't know if he was going to reel it in halfway to spin above it and go back in the other direction, stay on the branch, or just use it to give him a swing forward

Just when it was thinking how unfair the creation of this tool was it saw him stop and face it with a smile, this made it happy but vigilant, so far it only saw endless tricks so it assumed he had a plan, so it slowed down its approach a little but kept charging at him, ready to bite his head off when the chance presented itself

"Haah haah haa"

Clearly running out of juice Yu stopped running and decided this was enough time for Lyra to kill everyone and come to help, the only thing he needed to do now was summon his shield and wait it out

Seeing the wolf charging at him, albeit at a much slower pace than before, he smiled and wanted to toy with it a bit more, thus he didn't summon out his grimoire until the last second when it was within an arm's reach

"Heh"

He laughed at it face hitting against his shield, at least he laughed at the image in his mind, reality quite different though

'Huh?'

Seeing the open maw still fast approaching, and the absence of any shield brought his mind to a small pause

'Cooldown!'

He screamed in his mind recalling that he used the shield less than twenty-four hours ago when he was fighting off a herd of sheep, his eyes shrank at the realization but his body didn't sit still and extended his arm forward in a natural defensive mechanism, his constant habit of taking out the crossbow to attack kicked in at this moment which made him take out the oversized thing from his spatial ring, right into the open maw

"Kuegh?"

Sensing something large keeping its mouth stuck open the wolf's eyes teared up, but that was nothing compared to when Yu took the opportunity to kick the crossbow and send himself backwards while one of the wolf's fangs crooked to the side

Overjoyed was an understatement to what Yu felt at the moment, his heart was almost going to leap out his chest right about now, both from fright and happiness at his survival

Seeing the tear eyed wolf spit the crossbow out and glare at him menacingly he got goosebumps, now that he didn't have a guarantee like the shield and Lyra wasn't here he was starting to actually fear the baddie

"Lyra! I might need some help here!"

He called out while running away, his speed was much slower than the wolf when the grapple wasn't in his hands, as for when it fell? Well that would be when he was about to piss his pants just seconds ago as the sharp teeth neared him

The big guy was closing in on him rather quickly and he was out of idea's, only Lyra could save him now, or he could get lucky, like maybe...

'Hole!'

Seeing a large borrow in the ground he jumped straight into it without a second thought, the oversized wolf tried to go in after him but it couldn't fit anything but its head

"Grrar! Grrrrrr"

Unwilling to give up now that its prey was cornered it trie to dig its way down, wiggling its head further in

It didn't have to dig much before it saw the damnable prey once again, this time he was coming toward it rather than running away, it appears the grey owners of this hole were kicking him out, and boy was that quite the kick

With a toothy smile the wolf finally got the chance to really kill this bug, thus it opened its maw and was pulled out of the hole after getting rammed from the side

"....?"

While it was lost in its world of pity at the teasing but unfulfilling moments Yu was also feeling despair

'Am I really going to die cause I used my shield for sheep'

Those were his last thought as the maw with extra sharp teeth came down at him from above, he felt that this was another lame reason to die making him doubt his confidence in his next run, if he ever got reincarnated again

Running out of luck and ideas he faced the maw and awaited its chomp

'Didn't I knock off one o its teeth to the side?'

He suddenly realized when it was really close, but he didn't have to ponder on it as the maw gripped onto his shirt and pulled him out of the hole and into his companion's lovable embrace

"Wuu..."

Lyra gave him a sad woo while she put him down, snuggling close to him, this was the second time she was about to lose him which brought tears to her big eyes looking very pitiful even with all the blood staining her fur

Yu was still in shock for a while that it took him a few seconds to realize what was going on, once he did though he let out a heavy breath before hugging her, blood and all

While the two were in their special loving bubble the rabbits that peeked out to teach the intruder a lesson went right back in after seeing the bloody wolf, as for the big guy who felt the world was playing with him he could be seen retreating ever so slowly from this hateful duo

Crack

When he stepped on a branch in his retreat he knew the world was indeed against him for the two suddenly turned toward him, it seemed his hell of a day was far from over....
