20 Chapter 18: Sport's Festival Pt.6 - Mina vs. Tokoyami

After Midoriya's match came Todoroki's match against Sero, and it went as I expected. Sero got absolutely mopped. Even though I wasn't too close to the gigantic iceberg that was erected by Todoroki, I could still feel its chill from my seat.

Most of the other matches went as in the anime with some slight differences along the way so I didn't pay much attention to it until it came to Mina's match. This time she wouldn't be facing glitter naval laser whatever, but Tokoyami.

I don't hold much hope in her winning this match but I'll still cheer anyway.

"WE'RE ONTO THE FIFTH MATCH. OFFENSE AND DEFENSE IN ONE BODY! THE DARK SAMURAI ACCOMPANIED BY A DARK SHADOW, FROM THE HERO COURSE, FUMIKAGE TOKOYAMIIIIIIIII!!!"

The crowd erupted in cheers as Tokoyomi stood with his arms crossed.

"VERSUS, IS SOMETHING GOING TO COME OUT OF THOSE HORNS!? FROM THE HERO COURSE, MINA ASHIDOOOOOOO!!!"

"Heh, too bad I didn't get someone easy to go up against in my first round but it is what is", Mina chuckled and looked up at the Class 1A seating area to see Kirishima cheering for her and Akutagawa sitting quietly but flashing her a smile and a thumbs up.

The rest of the class cheered among the murmurings of Midoriya but it was ignored as he's done it for every match now.

"MATCH START!"

Following Present Mic's signal to start, Mina immediately slid out of the way as Tokoyami sent out Dark Shadow, nimbly avoiding each of its claws as she slipped and span on the periphery of the line. She didn't forget to keep up her chatter as she evaded each swipe.

"It's really strange how you and Ryu have such similar quirks, oop!", she jumped up narrowly evading a low swipe.

"Yes, we are quite similar", Tokoyami admitted as he frowned at Mina's evasion skills as she inched more towards him. He circled around her to keep the distance but with a burst of sudden speed, Mina shot her acid in a trail towards him and slid over.

"But unlike Ryu, I doubt you had any close combat training!", she yelled as she drew back her fist and sent it flying, only for it to be dodged by him. Recalling Dark Shadow, Tokoyami weaved between Mina's punches as he stepped back, blocking some of them as well.

"I may not have his training, but he inspired me during the Battle Trials, let me show you", Dark Shadow was then wrapped around Tokoyami partially below his torso, greatly increasing his speed as he flitted around Mina.

In a panic, Mina thrust her arms out and sprayed her acid up into the air and in a wide arc. Dark Shadow raised it's arm to block any acid from falling onto Tokoyami. Using this chance, Mina slid over and kicked him in the gut.

As he slid back his feet slipped on the acid still laid out on the ground. Falling to the ground he managed to block Mina's kicks with Dark shadow before having it smash her to the other end of the arena.

Mina tried to maneuver away from the boundary line with her acid but the force of Dark Shadow's hit was too strong, sending her across the line stumbling before falling and landing on her backside, groaning in pain and frustration.

"Mina Ashido is out of bounds, Winner FUMIKAGE TOKOYAMI!", Midnight announced as the crowd erupted into cheers once more. What they thought would be a one-sided battle actually turned out very entertaining as Mina managed to keep Tokoyami on his toes for a while.

"WHAT A THRILLING MATCH BETWEEN ASHIDO AND TOKOYAMI!!!!"

"WHOOOOOO THAT WAS AWESOME MINA, YOU WERE SO CLOSE!", Kirishima's yelled toward Mina who had stood up and was sighing to herself. Before she could wave back Tokoyami came up to her and offered his hand.

"That was a great match. I didn't expect to actually have to put in so much effort to win. I'm sorry for underestimating you, Ashido".

Taking his hand Mina smiled cheekily and said, "Pft, yeah it was a great match and no big deal. I was really surprised when you pulled off that move earlier. You went crazy fast!"

Tokoyami nodded his head before shaking it again. "It's still not complete, but I have a rough idea of where I should go with it. If I didn't get that inspiration from Akutagawa, I may have been more hard-pressed to win. I'd like to have a chat with him sometime".

"You can ask him anytime. Underneath his broody front, he's a softie. Your typical tsundere". Mina and Tokoyami laughed as they looked up at Akutagawa who sneezed before scratching his ear.

"Someone must be badmouthing me...", he murmured under his breath.

"The match ended as predicted but Ashido and Tokoyami had a few surprises...Her physical strength and combat prowess are higher than I thought...with Tokoyami's new move his speed has reached a new level...", Midoriya's mumbling crawled its way into the class ears once more as he jotted things down in his tattered notebook.

"I'm up next", Akutagawa got up and put his hands in his gym jacket pockets. Kirishima tapped his shoulder in encouragement as he walked away, Momo getting up and following after him at a distance.

"Remember don't overdo anything, you've already done a lot in the cavalry battle. I don't wanna have to treat you again", Recovery Girl nagged in Akutagawa's ear as she checked under his shirt at the bandages that were still wrapped around his chest.

"Don't worry granny, I know my limits", Akutagawa chuckled as he adjusted his mask.

"Who are you calling granny!? And I don't want to hear that from someone who I initially thought was a living dead when brought to me", Recovery Girl smacked the back of his head softly before shooing him out of the tunnel and onto the arena.

"Let's get on with the SIXTH MATCH"

"THE CRIMSON BEAST WITH A DARK COUNTENANCE, TEARING HIS WAY THROUGH THE CAVALRY BATTLE, FROM THE HERO COURSE RYUNOSUKE AKUTAGAWA!!!!!!!!", Present Mic screamed with the audience following soon after with their cheers.

"Tone down the fire please...", he murmured with his hands still in his jacket pockets, his voice hollow from the gas mask.

"VERUS!!!"

"ALL-PURPOSE CREATION! ADMITTED THROUGH RECOMMENDATION, HER ABILITIES ARE GUARANTEED!!! FROM THE HERO COURSE MOMOOOO YAOYOROZUUUUUU!!!"

"This time I won't lose Akutagawa!", Momo said with determination as the flames flickered in her eyes.
