Second reason

opened the curtains of the window, letting the evening ray reflect its light into the room. That was when I realized there were other neighbors whose houses were just a few miles from ours.

From this day forward, this was my home, whether I liked it or not.

The aroma of the chicken sauce filled the dining room as my mother served the dishes, which made my stomach rumble loudly, which was really embarrassing.

"I see you are hungry"

Mrs. Tessa chuckled lightly as she placed the dishes on the table.

Tessa realized she wasn't a big fan of cooking, even though she had the skills necessary. This had both good and bad implications in her life.

Mrs Tessa Campbell had hoped to find some inner peace or maybe find another love when she moved into Sacramento newly but as they say ' not all you wish for come true '

She had never imagined that a day would come when she and Elaine, her daughter, would be sitting together, although it was something new to her.

She blossomed into a stunning yet fragile young woman and wasn't shocked. Elaine assumed that she and her father had parted ways due to her career. Tessa couldn't blame her for that belief because she made it look that way.

"Rice and chicken sauce. Your father told me it was your favorite." She muttered with a smile as Elaine slowly grabbed her spoon.

"He told you that? So you two talked" Elaine said as she scooped some rice into the spoon.

"Yes...we did a lot "

" I seem to be the bad one here," Elaine said with a dry chuckle.

" I don't think so. If I had been in your situation, I would have taken the same approach.

"You don't know what being in my shoes is like and you won't fit in...at all"

Tessa could only sigh deeply as she ate slowly. It was only right that Elaine was angry, and at the same time, hurt by her actions. Any daughter would feel that way.

"Elaine," Tessa dropped her spoon slowly beside her plate, facing her direction at her daughter as she spoke.

" I realized that I haven't apologized ever since I left your father and you. Am sorry for not been there when you needed me the most in your life, not been there in your growing moments, trying times. You might not accept my apology immediately or it might not seem sincere to you but I will try my best to be a mother to you"

Elaine didn't know what to say as her mother uttered her apology which she knew was sincere but how could she forgive her mother all of a sudden.

"Why? Why did you leave us...why did you leave father? Don't tell me it was your career." That questions had bothered and tormented her entire moments, the only suitable answer to her question was the fact she left them for her career but still it didn't seem like it.

Tessa stared at her food at the mention of that question not that the question was surprising to her because she knew a day like this would eventually come.

Why? Why had she left them? Why had she left her beloved husband and precious husband... Career? No, not at all.

When Peter Garrett and Tessa Campbell had gotten married years back they were happy, planning their lives, how many children they would want to have and all lovable thought.

After they gave birth to Elaine it was as if the love which they had shared slowly started to drift and fade for no absolute reason.

Peter Garrett was one man a woman would love to spend the rest of their lives with but was they say no one could predict the future so goes as theirs. But deep down in Tessa's heart there were two reasons.

Firstly, There was no love in the marriage anymore... Secondly, she was yet to figure out and understand the second reason or maybe she couldn't accept the fact that this second reason was the major cause.

Tessa wanted her own dreams. She had dreams and passions. Happiness.

"Elaine, that's a question for another day" Tessa didn't know why she didn't want to tell her daughter even though Elaine was mature enough to understand it.

"And when will that day come?"

"Soon."
