38 A Vampire.

Vasilis.

"I'm a Vampire."

The words left my lips with a such a glass-shattering catatonic wave of condemnation, it was almost worse than the first moment I woke up as an immortal and realized what monster I had become.

I'd never thought anything could be worse than that moment, but I stood there in the middle of Jade's room, watching helplessly as she backed away from me, and I realized there were things far worse than hell.

This was worse than any hell.

Having her see me for what I truly was. A monstrosity. A beast who did not deserve life as I had it.

I half expected her to either dash through the door, screaming at the top of her lungs to go call the police, or to burst into laughter and tell me I had lost my mind—which would not be untrue.
