Chapter 41: Promise

She lies there beside the man, naked as day, a small escaping her.

“What is it?” the king asks with ruby eyes searching her brown ones. She attempts to sit up, but his arm wrapped around her waist holds her down. Hayley frowns, biting her lip and finally questions, “What are we?”

He scoffs. “This again? I thought I made it clear.”

Her eyes narrow, and she quips, “You haven’t made anything clear.”

A heavy sigh escapes her chest, and she casts her gaze towards the floor, pulling away from the vampire, her feet lightly touching the ground as she finally sits up. Mamoru raises beside her and brushes her hair away from her neck, teeth grazing across her flesh as he places gentle kisses.

“Do I need to make you my queen? Will that prove your relationship status?” he asks flippantly. Hayley huffs and answers, “That’s not what I want.”

He growls in frustration. “Then what do you want?”
