Chapter 14: Attack

Ezra lifts the woman and places her in bed.

She fainted on him, and he can do nothing further about it. He looks over the mark he made across her neck. It would suffice for the time being as a warning to others to stay away from claimed territory. Even Ryu would understand that message. Whether or not he actually pays it any warning is a different matter.

Ezra sighs. He had given Leila the mark of the vampire’s kiss. If he wants it to do anything useful, though, he requires her blood, but he wouldn’t dare ask for that. Now that she knows what he is, he has to wait for her acceptance and hope it doesn’t tear her apart inside.

He runs a hand through his hair, tracing two fingers across the mark. Leila stirs for a moment but soon falls back into her relaxed state. He turns on his heels and notices Hayley standing there.

Scowling, he asks, “How much did you see?”
