Crazy Demands

"M… Mission…?!? But sir, we're merely some random new recruits who have never seen blood nor have been on the battlefields, moreover we never experienced the true terrors of war… And though we would love to and we'd be honored to serve you and the military, isn't it a little too quick?!" 

First to get out of his astonishment was Ken who couldn't help but feel so nervous about the news and the commander's order as he expressed his feelings and doubts while suppressing the dread and fear he felt talking to someone as important as the commander. 

"Your worries are understandable yet unnecessary, I have been getting many reports of your activities and your training over the past two weeks and I'm very certain that you guys won't disappoint me…" 

"But… How can you be so sure?!?" 

Hearing the uncertainty that hasn't disappeared yet in Ken's voice, John let out a small sigh as he grabbed some random paper from his desk drawer. 

"Ken Denver and Conor Bolt, two 16-year-olds with monstrous bodies stronger than most average human adults, known for their barbaric strength and behaviors, and love for women as well as having fun… Overall, a little bit childish and filthy yet they have a good heart on the inside." 

"Ellen Makenzie, Kai Griffin… A boy and a girl from an unknown background who joined the military together at the same time… Very skilled and good in all aspects of the human realm… Passed all exercises and tests put for them easily while never showing their actual true strength, their power level is still unknown yet suspected to be higher than Ken and Conor… Personality traits for Ellen are friendly and funny yet have a lot of switches in behaviors and personality(assumed to have Dissociative Identity Disorder)..."

"Kai Griffin's personality traits are still unknown but seems to be the calm scheming type of person…" 

Ken and Conor's heads got a little dizzy after hearing all the things the army knows about them, it for sure shook them to the core of the army spying on them that Ken's jaw was left hanging as he felt like his previous worries were so unimportant, even Ellen herself was a little surprised as she thought she hid her DID perfectly at her time at the army… Around people in public at least, but it seemed like nothing could run away from the authority's eyes. 

Satisfied with their reaction John decided to continue with what he wanted to declare just now. 

"So as you can see, mister Ken… I'm already a little aware of your characteristics and many other things about you, so there's no need to worry about me misjudging your guys' capabilities…" 

"Now as for the mission, I will be giving to you… It'll be a really simple one, it will be more of a practice for you guys… You're gonna join one of the White Fang's newbie groups and kill a few primary barbaric monsters that got past the wall line and entered some nearby cities… You'll go on with the newbie group for a couple of weeks to get some experience before I assign you a new mission when you're ready..." 

Ken, Conor and Ellen all fell into deep thoughts as they were very tempted to take John's command knowing they were going with a newbie group… Which are known to get easy missions and fight weak monsters for experience. 

But they suppressed all their excitement as they thought about it logically and through… After all, this was a very important decision and could change their lives completely, either for the better or worse. 

But even after a while of thinking thoroughly, they were unable to find any disadvantages other than risking their lives, which will happen sooner or later… After all, they were in the military… 

But just as they were about to express their gratitude and acceptance for the opportunity John was giving them… 

"We refuse…"

?!?!

Sensing all the stares piercing through his body, and seeing the questioning eyes looking at him, Kai gave a simple short explanation like he did nothing of importance just now. 

"We can't take your order of partnering up with any newbies, if you want us to kill any monsters, make us our own group…" 

Everybody inside the office, including John himself… Unlocked their eyes so wide that they nearly came out of their quarries, their shock could not be described in words at this moment… 

Because what Kai just did was not merely reject the offer John gave him which was already crazy enough for their poor minds to handle, but Kai made an insane demand asking the commander to make a whole new group just for them regarding the rank difference between the two. 

"Kid… Do you understand the meaning of what you're requesting right now… Because if you don't then you might get in trouble real soon…" 

John's expression darkened with the most serious look he ever had on his face… His idea about Kai right now has gotten much worse than it already was since he walked into this room… To him, the past few minutes gave him a truly good idea about Kai's personality as he thought he was just a cocky kid with too much confidence and a lot of greed. 

He felt so much like those disgusting nobles John despised a lot and nothing about him left a good impression on him except his courage, though John's starting to think it was mere stupidity instead. 

"I'm very aware of the meaning behind what I'm asking, and before you say anything let me tell you this…" 

"If you force us to join this group of newbies, the chances of death for both us and them will increase drastically… Because let's remember that we've never seen blood before here, and they aren't strong enough to take care of the monsters we'll fight while calming us down at the same time…" 

Kai wanted to take a moment to catch his breath but John mistakenly thought he was done with his argument… 

"So that's your reasoning!? You know after reading the reports I had about you I really thought you were a smart person but now I'm aware of my oversight… I mean, couldn't we use your own argument and logic the other way around if we do things the way you just asked…" 

"Because you guys are not strong enough to calm yourselves down while fighting a monster either, or am I wrong? " 

Kai had to take a moment to control his urge to call the guy in front of him a bunch of names similar to stupid and dumb in every way possible before letting out a tired sigh while he explained. 

"Because I will be there…" 

"Huh?!? "

Unable to understand Kai's logic they all looked at him like he was some crazy guy walking down the street, but before any of them got the wrong idea, he clarified himself clearly… 

"Mister John, call me cocky or whatever you wanna call me, but your reports weren't lying when they said I'm smart… And I'm telling you right now as a smart person, putting us together with any other group will only result in your soldiers' deaths…" 

*Sigh* 

"Listen here Kai boy, creating an army group isn't something you can just do whenever you'd like and you should know that if you were smart as you're claiming… I wanna trust you but you're not giving me any reason to do so… So tell me Kai boy, why should I trust you…??"

"Because if you don't… The whole White Fang troop of yours will die…"
