Chapter three

I stood quiet. I wasn't sure what to say and I wasn't fine. I didn't know if I could trust this man either, but I knew I was just over thinking. My heartbeat was echoing in my head.

I ignored his question and whispered back "Where am I?'' in a gravelly voice while hanging my head down.

"Wilmington 1955." The cop said in a sing song voice, and I could hear the smirk through his words.

"Aren't you funny." I replied in a sarcastic manner, while looking back up.

"Are you okay or not?" He inquired.

The policeman stood up in front of me. I wanted to get up as well, but my head felt tight. There was a second of silence. Uncomfortable silence. He wanted to say something, I could feel it. It's like his gracious personality disappeared. Something was off, and he seemed concerned. My stomach was turning, what if I did something.

"The newspapers moved." He said in a serious voice, "The garbage cans barely lifted off of the ground."

"No, it didn't" I insisted, while lifting myself up against the damp brick wall.

I was ready to leave. I didn't want to say anything more. This man was too curious, then he's going to ask questions. I didn't know what to think, for once in my life. I didn't know what to say. Only to just deny.

"I know what I saw." The officer stated confidently.

"No, you don't." I said calmly, as I was slowly walking away with my head in my palms.

The man grabbed my left hand and flipped it over. I was frustrated and tried to pull away. I couldn't, along with the gaze between my palm and the policeman couldn't be just pulled away. He was stunned then baffled. His fingers traced the creases in my hand and the two birthmarks in the middle of my palm. I wasn't sure they were ever birthmarks because they were a deep purple. The dots were small enough to be unnoticeable from a distance. The policeman took my right hand softly, to see if it was the same on my other palm. They were identical.

''Officer?" I stammered, while he appeared lost for words.
