30 [The Substitute Shinigami Arc] Part 30: Theories for the future

#June 17 - Karakura High School, Gakuenchou #

Today seems like it has everything to be a peaceful day, after all, with Ichigo missing, Keigo and Mizuiro were much more behaved and weren't talking much. Chad isn't much of a talker so in his case not much has changed. The most that happened was that some students kept asking me if something had happened to Rukia but I always avoided the subject by saying that she had to visit a relative.

I was in the classroom making the last notes in my notebook. Apparently our sensei had an appointment so our classes would end early and since I didn't join any clubs, it meant I would go home earlier than usual.

Yato: 'Maybe today I'll finally be able to train my powers in peace…'

After about two minutes the school bell rang so I packed my things to leave.

Keigo: "Hey, Yato! Do you want to go out with us? Just us guys?"

Mizuiro: "You need to take advantage of the time you have while Kuchiki-san is not here and if you really are going to get married I can show you some places for your future bachelor party."

Yato: "No, but thanks for the offer." - I smiled.

Keigo: "You can be more of a killjoy than Ichigo! But I'm sure my friend Chad is going with us."

Chad: "Hmm...I'm busy...Sorry..."

Keigo started to make a fuss, calling Chad and me traitors, but since we already knew his personality, we just ignored him and left the school.

As I have a bike, it didn't take long for me to get home and as soon as I opened the door, I noticed that Cheshire was sitting on the couch. I even wondered for a moment because since Rukia came here, Cheshire didn't stay in his cat form for a while.

Cheshire: "Hello! Welcome to your home!" - he said smiling.

Yato: "Are you enjoying the couch while the house is empty?"

Cheshire: "Just wanted to stretch my paws a little."

I chuckled as I went into the bedroom to change into something more comfortable.

Cheshire: "By the way…you know things are going to get a little…complicated from here on out, right?" - He asked while following me.

Yato: "Yeah, and that's precisely why I intend to train a little more today." - I said while concentrating on creating those threads of spiritual energy again.

At first it was very strange to manipulate them since I need to "visualize" the movement of each one of them and not just move my hands.

Cheshire: "You could be a little more creative when you use this..."

Yato: "Like what? Like improvised weapons?" - I asked while trying to make the threads come together and take the form of a katana.

Cheshire: "Why a katana?"

Yato: "It was the first thing I thought of. By the way, boss…there's something I've been wanting to ask for a while now…"

Cheshire: "About the name of your power and the things you've done to date?"

Yato: "Yes…it's just…I imagined that a power called "Red Threads of Fate" would work differently."

Cheshire: "And you weren't mistaken in that thought, after all, in the time you've been here you've been involuntarily creating bonds. You just haven't evolved enough to identify them." - The cat smiled.

Yato: "...I think I understand..."

I spent a few more hours using the threads to create different things to familiarize myself with the skill and only stopped training to eat something.

I was a little uneasy because I already knew that a lot of events would happen very soon... like Uryu attracting a bunch of Hollows, Chad and Inoue awakening their powers... Byakuya and Renji coming to get Rukia...all the mess in Soul Society... There were so many things that I couldn't focus on a plan to at least ease the situation.

Yato: 'If I try to prevent Uryu from calling the Hollows, it may be that Inoue and Chad won't awaken their powers…but there is also the possibility that the Hollows will appear even without Uryu causing it…And even if I miraculously manage to stop Byakuya and Renji from taking Rukia…Soul Society will just send more people after her…and me…' - I started scratching the back of my neck while Cheshire looked at me for a while and sighed.

Yato: 'Not to mention that if I change an event, I'm just creating a new one that I don't have the power to see. As much as I train, I still waste a lot of reiatsu when I try to change something…'

Cheshire: "You're very paranoid…sometimes the solution to one of your problems is simpler than you think…"

Yato: "You could just tell me..."

Cheshire: "In theory, you're already capable of having a lot of power and you still want a tutorial? You can manage on your own. You won't always have someone to hold your hand, hihihi."

I was still a little frustrated so I just sighed and looked towards the living room window. And I was surprised by the fact that it was starting to rain…since it was sunny a few minutes ago. As much as the rain in the world of Bleach is related to sadness or bad memories, I never had a problem with rain, quite the contrary, I liked to hear the sound of rain sometimes… and it made me calm down a little .

According to Cheshire, the solution to one of the problems was something simple, probably something I must have already done, so I went back to thinking about the things I managed to do since I arrived in this world.

Yato: 'The first was basically changing fate that I was late to school…the second was Tatsuki. As much as in the original story Tatsuki was able to see spirits, she never developed any power…which means she was similar to Don Kanonji…she was just a medium…wait…that means I changed her "race"…'

As much as a Fullbring isn't exactly a race, becoming a Fullbring requires a very specific factor... which means I created this situation that didn't even exist before...

I thought back to my situation. My biggest problem was that I used up a lot of reiatsu when trying to change something…but what if there was a way I could replenish my energy quickly…by absorbing reishi…?

Yato: "Boss…you altered myself so that I could use these threads…" - When I looked back at Cheshire, he was smiling.

Cheshire: "In a way, yes"

Yato: "Could I change my destiny so that I become not only a Fullbringer…but also a Quincy?"
