12 Mystery gifts

Ava narrated all that happened that fateful night to her sister but she didn't tell her about Maxwell coming into their house and kissing her. Julie told her not to worry, she was going to contact their uncle and fix things with him. She didn't want their sick mum to know about this. 

Unfortunately for Julie, her uncle was already contacted and he has nothing to do to help. Sebastian had already threatened him and not only that, he even kidnapped his little baby of six months without the mother. Julie and Ava were very furious to know about this.

They had no other option than to give in. Ava agreed to get married to Sebastian to save her uncle's baby. Their sick mother was informed. As expected, it broke her heart to hear about it but what could they do? The wedding arrangements started as soon as Ava accepted her fate.

Maxwell couldn't sleep since he heard about Ava. He kept seeing flashes of her. What confused him the most was she might have a connection with Laura. He tried to convince himself that Laura is dead and besides, they didn't share the same surname. Laura was the only female that Maxwell was so close to.

Eric kept updating Maxwell about the wedding preparations. Maxwell didn't say anything as he acted calmly. In his head, he had already strategized plans. At work, he dialed a new number. The phone rang and the other person started the conversation.

"Is this Jasper Edwards?" Maxwell asked the person at the other end of the line. He got up from the seat and sat on his desk.

"Yes, it's me speaking. Who am I unto please?" The voice asked again.

"This is the CEO of Taemin's sons and limited. Your current job position is a driver, am I correct?" Maxwell asked him.

"Yes sir. Good day sir." Jasper greeted as he was nervous to speak directly to the CEO. Maxwell was well respected and feared in the society.

"Good. Will two million dollars do you any good?" Maxwell asked him sarcastically.

"Wha…what? Two million? That's a lot sir. Yes, yes sure. It will go a long way in changing my life…how can I get the money please? What do I need to do to get it?" Jasper asked Maxwell as he was eager to hear how the money could become his.

"I need you to carry out a job for me. Can you do it?" Maxwell asked as he placed his right feet on his seat.

"What kind of job sir?" Jasper asked.

"I need you to see me this evening by six. I'll text you where to meet me and we can discuss." Maxwell said to Jasper.

"Okay sir. Thanks so much. Thanks sir." Jasper profoundly showed his gratitude.

"Right. I'm sure you know Ava Smith well, right?" He asked Jasper. Jasper was shocked to hear him call the name.

"Ye..yes sir." Jasper replied in a shaky voice.

"Excellent. You are exactly who I need for this job. See you this evening." Maxwell replied in a strange voice.

"Hold on please..sir…sir…are you there?" Jasper asked in shutters.

"Yes?" Maxwell asked as he was slightly irritated.

"What about her? Why did you ask her?" Jasper asked him.

"I don't need you asking many questions. Any silly games you play here, I'll deduct your money. Is that understood?" Maxwell said in an authoritative voice.

"Ye..yes sir." Jasper replied and the line was disconnected.

A sly smile played on Maxwell's face as his lips were straightened. He dropped his phone on the table as he stared at his shoes.

Maxwell dialed another number as he sat down on his seat. It was ringing without anyone picking it up. After two attempts, the call went through. It was a female voice that got the call.

"I see you didn't like my gifts to say thank you." Maxwell said to the person on the call.

"I'm sorry…I was about to call you but things got mixed up here. I thought it was from someone else." 

"Oh wow…tell me all about it. From who? Sebastian?" Maxwell asked mockingly.

"You…you know him?" The lady's voice cracked through.

"Well why won't I know about him? He was the guy chasing you that night wasn't he?" Maxwell asked. His questions stirred memories of the past.

"Hold on please…who am I speaking to? Is this Jason?"

"Who is Jason?" Maxwell asked with a squeezed face.

"Sorry, who is this please?" 

"Never mind. See you." Maxwell replied and with that, he ended the call.

"Who was that?" Julie asked Ava.

"I don't know…" Ava replied.

"Is it Jason? I thought I heard the person saying something about gifts? Or is it that old man again?" Julie asked as she was referring to Sebastian. She dreaded him so much that calling his name was irritating to her.

"I doubt he is the one. He told me that I was getting married to Sebastian. That means it can't be him…then who?" Ava asked her sister as she looked up at her.

"If I heard him right, he made mention of you being chased by Sebastian…could it be that man who saved you?" Julie asked Ava.

"What are you saying? He doesn't even know me or have my number." Ava replied as she didn't believe it could be Maxwell.

"Then who else could it be? What sort of mystery gifts are these?" Julie asked her sister.

"Maybe we should burn it or leave it at the door?" Ava suggested.
