Lucas's Crazy Beginning

The afternoon sun was at its highest point above the Clover Kingdom. The sun rays were beginning to fade as the warm morning had just gone past. Below the sun and in the air, two people were flying on their brooms, one was stood upright, whilst the other was sat down clutching the stick with a full grip.

"Can you even control your broomstick?" Yuno asked as he flew forwards, hands in his pocket and his gaze up front.

Lucas, now getting comfortable with being around Yuno started to speak in a more familiar way, "yeah I can control it, but I'm not the best at it. Something just isn't clicking".

"You'll get the hang of it", the Wind mage smiled towards Lucas who met the expression with a smile of his own. "I know someone who doesn't even have magic, but he doesn't give up. You'll be able to improve".

Lucas realised that Yuno was speaking about the person who shouted those words of encouragement to him just yesterday. "Asta, right?"

"Yeah that's right. Have you spoken with him?" Yuno asked, curious.

"N-no, not really... I want to make friends with him, but I'm just not good at it because of who I am...". Lucas responded sadly, twiddling his fingers.

Yuno realised something was up with Lucas but he didn't want to pry into it just in case it was something he didn't want to speak about. Instead, he turned the conversation with a positive twist. "Asta is easy to get along with. He's loud, small, and an idiot... but he's someone who you can rely on-!" Yuno started to cough, he realised how open he was being with someone who he literally just met a day ago. "Sorry about that".

Lucas just looked up at the Wind mage and he smiled. "It's so easy to speak with Yuno... I didn't think anyone would want to speak with someone like me, but I guess... he's my fr-friend? N-no, that can't be...", he thought, still questioning himself. "I hope I get to s-see him again then!" He replied.

A few minutes passed and the day grew darker. The afternoon sun started to shift and set towards the rest. The two Golden rookies had arrived at the outer area of the Royal Capital. They descended to the ground and left their broomsticks leaning against the wall that separated them and the Royal Capital.

The two started their patrol mission and it was very easy at first. All they did was walk and talk for a large part of the day. The sun was setting as they were speaking. It was truly an easy enough mission, for now.

Lucas was walking slightly behind Yuno when he perked his head up and saw something that immediately fascinated him. His eyes lit up and he rushed forwards without a care in the world.

"H-hey!" Yuno shouted out, not knowing where Lucas was heading off to.

"Wow! They have Blue Irises here as well? I can't believe it..." Lucas ran to a flowerbed he saw in front of him and started gawking at all the different variety of flowers he could see. "Let's see...".

Yuno caught up and simply deadpanned at Lucas. "Lucas likes... flowers? I guess that's his interest so no need to judge", he thought as he started to look around too. "You like collecting flowers?"

Lucas would've jumped at anyone asking that question to him, but since it was Yuno and the fact he was already mesmerised by the flowerbed, he responded calmly. "Yeah, it's something that I've always done since I was a little kid, maybe even before that... but I don't... remember?" Lucas paused for a few seconds. "Why don't I remember anything from before... 'that' day?" The dual mage gulped but decided to ignore the fact.

"I see. You seem to like those blue ones, so are they important?" Yuno asked.

"They're my big sister's favourite flowers, I always picked some for them when I was out playing back in my village... hmm?" Lucas turned his head around and saw a group of red flowers that were shining brightly. "Oh! These are Red Daisies. Yuno, look... daisies usually have multiple little, white petals that surround its centre, but these ones are pretty rare! The middle of these are a nice blue and purple shade and have four red petals stemming from it!"

Yuno was surprisingly interested with what Lucas was talking about, or rather he was surprised with how Lucas was speaking. The Wind mage had figured Lucas to be somewhat of a shy person but once he was comfortable, it seemed like he couldn't stop speaking. Yuno simply smiled.

"Oh, this flower kinda reminds me of that one girl back at the exam...". The dual mage thought back to the girl who spoke to him and who ended up joining the Blue Rose Knights. "What was her name? I don't think she got to tell me, but her eyes were blue with a hint of violet, just like this flower!" He laughed.

Lucas then walked forwards slightly and saw another flowerbed area that immediately reminded him of another person he met recently. "Th-these are... Green Snowdrops! Their colour... hm, I wonder if she'll like it?"

The mage then stood up and turned to Yuno who was still looking at the other flowers.

"Hey, Yuno. Do you think Mimosa would like these flowers?" Lucas asked straight up.

Yuno was surprised, but eventually figured what the reasoning behind his question was. "Do you like Mimosa?"

This time Lucas jumped and let out a small yelp. "L-like? No w-way! I just wanted to do something to thank her for being s-so nice!" The mage pleaded his innocence whilst wailing his hands everywhere.

"I'm no expert on flowers, but that particular one might be good". The tall mage responded.

Upon a closer look, the 'green' of the Green Snowdrops resembled the colour of Mimosa's eyes and Lucas realised that. "You're right! I hope she likes them, haha". Lucas carefully picked the flower from the ground and slowly placed it in his satchel, next to his grimoire.

"Well, I guess it's time to head back. We haven't found anything wro-!" Yuno started but then felt a strong mana presence from behind. "Wind Magic: Towering Tornado!" He quickly summoned his spell and used it to counter the incoming attack that had been aimed towards the two mages.

Lucas quickly got up from his knelt-down position and readied himself with his grimoire. "Wh-who are these people?!" He asked anxiously.

"It looks like bandits, four of them. Tsk" Yuno sounded annoyed, he was also enjoying his time, but it was swiftly interrupted by a group of four opponents.

Four people all dressed in black hoods and long cloaks approached the two Golden Dawn mages. They also brought their grimoires out but one of them started to speak, or rather shout, in an annoyed manner.

"I told you guys we should've brought more people!"

"Our past attacks have always consisted of big assaults so you would've thought a small attack with four of us may have worked... I guess not".

Yuno stepped forward and projected himself to the four people. "Are you four bandits? Give yourself up and you'll be dealt with in the right manner".

The four opponents looked at Yuno and then at each other. They started to laugh.

"Hahaha! There's four of us and there's two of you. Not to mention you're both kids and one of them is cowering behind you!"

Yuno turned his head towards Lucas whose body was slightly trembling. "Lucas, there's a reason you wanted to become a Magic Knight, right? Well, I want to become the Wizard King and I guess my first move is to capture these bandits... you should help me, considering you're a Magic Knight too!" The Wind mage then turned a page in his grimoire and attacked two of the bandits.

Lucas slowly got up and straightened himself. He wiped the dirt from his trousers and looked the bandits head on. "He's right! This is only the start, so I need to help Yuno out".

"Wind Magic: Tornado Fang!" Yuno summoned sharp blades of wind that condensed to form one sharp tornado. He then sent it towards two of the bandits he was up against.

"Ha! Wind Magic is no match for us... Flame Magic: Burning Impact!" One of the bandits engulfed his fist in flames and shot some fire out of his right palm to hit the incoming Tornado Fang.

"You're right! Earth Magic: Ground Eruption!" The second bandit put his palms to the floor and caused the ground to shake and break apart with a sudden earth platform rising up to hit Yuno.

Yuno dodged the first two attacks but he began to get tired. "This is bad, I guess I'll try something different! Wind Creation Magic: Heavenly Wind Ark!" The Golden Dawn mage summoned a platform of wind that he could step on as a support. It also allowed him to glide through the air without the help of his broomstick. The battle carried on.

"Light Magic: Angelic Strike!" Lucas charged forward and zipped in and out of the other two bandits' attacks. They had Water Magic and Wind Magic which they used relatively well with each other, but Lucas managed to make it face to face with one of them. "Let me just place my palm... no! That would disintegrate him. Hm, then I'll do this!" The Light mage curled his left palm into a fist and punched the bandit with Water Magic away into the wall of the Royal Capital.

"Th-this guy!" The Water bandit flew backwards and was immediately rendered unconscious as he hit the wall. He fell down and his body slumped to the floor.

"Just who is this weird mage? He has Light Magic?!" The bandit that used Wind Magic shouted in disbelief. "Take this! Wind Magic: Rushing Winds!" He summoned two mini tornadoes in the palms of his hands and propelled them towards Lucas with full force. The sharp winds hit the dual mage and his skin started to cut and get pierced.

"Gah! This hurts... AH!" Lucas looked down and saw that his left arm was bruised and bleeding. He tried to wipe the blood away, but it was futile. The cuts still generated blood and was causing his left arm to not work with his Light Magic as well as it had done before.

"This kid seems to only use his left arm when fighting... since I've made it so he can't use it as well, my victory is here!" The man charged towards a defenceless Lucas.

Back to Yuno, he was finding it relatively easy to fight off his two opponents. The Heavenly Wind Arc was making his life easier as he twisted and turned away from the incoming attacks.

"Guess I'll try and end it now. Wind Magic: Towering Tornado... Double!" Yuno, instead of only summoning one big tornado, used both of his hands to summon a double tornado. He fired it towards the two enemies, and they were hit and rendered unconscious, immediately.

"These Magic Knights... they're too strong..." was the last words from Yuno's opponents.

Yuno descended on to the floor and composed himself. "That wasn't too bad... Let's see how Lucas is doing...!" He turned around and saw that the dual mage had defeated one opponent but was struggling against his other one. Lucas's left arm was badly injured, and he was refusing to use his right arm. "Why isn't he using his other arm? I need to go help!" He ran forwards.

Lucas and the Wind bandit were at some sort of stalemate. The bandit was using his wind as a barrier to stop Lucas advancing further, whilst Lucas was continuing to go against it and walk forwards. He was clutching his injured left arm.

"What can I do...?" He slowly looked at his uninjured right arm. "T-Time Magic... No! I c-can't...". Lucas shook his head and continued to walk towards the bandit. He then looked at his left arm and clenched his fist together. "I need to d-do this! Light Magic: Angelic Strike!" As he clenched his fist, it became enveloped in light once more, but it was a double-edged sword of some sorts as it was putting strain on him to use it.

"L-Lucas? Why is he so insistent on using his left arm? Does Light Magic only work on one side of his body?" Yuno thought, confused at the situation. He tried to hurry up but then saw how determined Lucas looked.

"I will become the W-Wizard King! If I back down now on my first day... then what does that show about me?" The blue-eyed mage looked at his opponent and carried on. He slowly closed in on him, every footstep becoming heavier and every movement becoming slower. Yet, he carried on even with the wind pushing against him. He opened his palm slowly and used his Angelic Strike spell to disintegrate the bursts of wind in front of him. With every opening this made, he moved in closer. Eventually he was face to face with the Wind bandit and he used his one move once more, closing his hand into a fist and he punched the enemy in the chest.

"H-how did you get past my wind?!" The bandit screamed before being met with a fist to the chest.

"I just thought about what my goal is, and if you're in the way of that... then I have no choice but to win!" Lucas replied and sent the last bandit crashing into the same wall. "I guess... that's that...", the young mage passed out.

An hour or so later, Lucas slowly opened his eyes and felt that he was moving quickly and with the air hitting his face. He raised himself up and saw that he was on a platform of wind with his broomstick placed just behind him. The four bandits were in coils of wind and they were unconscious. One other thing he noticed was that his left arm was completely healed.

"Huh? Just what happened, Yuno?" He asked the mage who was standing in front.

"Oh, you're finally awake. I used this transport spell to return to the base quickly. The bandits are all captured and we're returning to the base". He responded, still looking ahead.

"Ah I see, I guess I was a problem during this first mission..." he started to close his eyes in regret.

"A problem? I don't see it like that. You got two of the bandits and so did I. It was a 50/50 effort and you should be proud. Though you are really sloppy with your magic, you can still improve". He smirked as he turned his head to face his squadmate.

Lucas smiled back at him genuinely happy. "I didn't know there could be people like this who are nice to me...". He then continued on, "what about my arm? Do you know recovery spells?" He wondered.

"No, I don't. I woke up the Water Magic bandit and told him to use a recovery spell on you. He refused at first but after a bit of... talking... he agreed", Yuno turned around, sweat dropping.

"What did you do..." Lucas deadpanned.

After a few long minutes of floating in the air on Yuno's Heavenly Wind Ark, they reached the Magic Prison where criminals would be questioned and imprisoned. The four bandits were exchanged for a letter of confirmation by the security guards and then Lucas and Yuno made their way back to the Golden Dawn headquarters.

It was almost dinner time and the two new recruits just made it back before the food would be ready. A few of the members went to greet the two mages.

"Yo! I heard you guys got sent on your first mission, how did it go? Oh, I'm David Swallow by the way. I'm like everyone's big brother", he smiled. The man with nicely kept blonde hair spoke.

Yuno retreated into his 'cool' outer shell, "it was alright". Is all he said, though Lucas knew it was because he wasn't comfortable around others just like Lucas.

"What about you, Light mage?" He smiled to the young, ginger-haired mage.

"It-it was good! Yuno and I were a good team, I th-think", Lucas responded and tried his best to not let his timid personality get in the way of a genuine conversation.

"That's great! Man does our squad keep improving or what?" He started to pat Lucas on the back when a familiar blue-haired mage and a vermillion-haired mage entered the scene.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't our two show-offs? Hmph. So, tell me how badly you two failed on your patrol mission", he laughed. Mimosa, beside him, huffed in annoyance to Klaus's blatant rudeness.

Yuno perked up at hearing what Klaus said. Opposed to his closed off personality that he just exhibited with David; he had a sudden change in demeanour.

"Well if it isn't our Klaus-senpai? Why don't you take a look at this?" Yuno handed the confirmation letter to the Steel mage and retreated back beside Lucas.

Klaus and Mimosa started to read the letter and both of them had varied expressions from each other. While Mimosa started to smile and beam, Klaus had a defeated and annoyed face.

"Hmph. A simple patrol mission was obviously going to be completed. The Black Bulls could even do it so no reason to praise these two here". Klaus responded, clearly searching for any excuse or reason to not praise the two rookies.

"Klaus, didn't you expect them to fail? They showed they didn't so maybe you can save face by praising them". David spoke to the man in glasses.

One could swear they saw fumes coming out from his ears with the way everyone was looking at him and how he was reacting. "I guess you two didn't do so bad...". He then walked away quickly.

"Haha. Don't worry about him you two, if he gives you any problems let me know". David winked.

"Th-thanks!" Lucas responded.

Yuno then gave a slight nudge to Lucas who was standing next to him. It was almost as some sort of signal and when Lucas looked at the Wind mage, he pointed at his satchel. Lucas realised what he was on about. It was about the flower he picked for Mimosa.

After a few minutes, members of the Golden Dawn dispersed and headed inside to get ready for dinner. Yuno went away with David, and Klaus went off on his own. It was just Lucas and Mimosa left at the back.

"Hi Lucas! Well done on your first mission". She smiled at the dual mage who was still looking at how pretty she looked.

The moonlight was glistening off of her soft skin and it looked like it was illuminating her very being. The glint in Lucas's eyes sparkled as he looked at her and when she walked up to him, it grew even bigger.

"L-Lucas? Where are you staring at?" Mimosa asked.

Lucas snapped out of his daze. "Oh, n-no! Nothing don't worry! I just have something for you that I hope you may like!"

"Something for me? What have I done to warrant a gift?" She asked, surprised.

"It's just a little something to say thank you for being so nice to me from the beginning. I didn't think I'd be accepted in a squad like the Golden Dawn, but you were the first to really be n-nice to me... so here!" Lucas reached for the inside of his satchel and gently grabbed the Green Snowball flower and slowly handed it to her.

Mimosa looked in amazement. Her eyes started to sparkle as she looked at the flower Lucas had picked for her. The green centre of the flower resembled her eyes and she could not hold back a smile as she pulled it close to her chest.

"I love it, Lucas. Thank you so much!" Mimosa grabbed Lucas and pulled him in for a hug too. They embraced for a few short seconds before they stood back. "S-sorry about that! I just... I was just so happy. No one has really done anything like this for me, even if it may seem small".

Lucas was so happy she liked the gift. Even if it was a flower that would wither eventually, he was happy she accepted his gift.

"N-no worries! We're... we're f-friends, right?" Lucas asked, twiddling his fingers and interlocking them with each other.

Mimosa looked to Lucas with a smile. "Of course! I already said we were. Now, why don't we go get dinner and you can tell me about the mission?" She skipped forwards, flower in hand.

"S-sure!" Lucas followed behind.
