1 Chapter 1

"Come on, Uncle, we will be late for the Grimoire Acceptance Ceremony." A boy sighed. He had messy black hair that covered his ears. His dull, dark red eyes glared slightly at his uncle. He wore a simple, long-sleeve white shirt with black pants that clung to his lean body. He was around 5'7" and was a little underweight.

He was at the front door of their house, waiting for his uncle to get ready.

"Yes, yes, I'm coming," Samuel yawned. "You know I've only got an hour of sleep, right Scott?"

"Well, it's your fault. Your research could have waited." Scott whipped back, his soft voice contrasted with his words.

Before his uncle could reply, Scott turned and opened the door. His uncle was right behind him, still wearing a lab coat. The sun shined bright over the city of Kikka. Walking towards the Grimoire tower, they saw people using their magic for everyday use, from a lady watering her flowers with water magic to kids using wind and earth magic to play tag.

Scott continued to walk down the street, his brown, worn boots clacked on the stone walkway, but the city's noises drowned it, as this was normal for a commoner to see daily. They walked silently for a few minutes before his uncle cleared his throat.

"So, are you excited to get your grimoire?" Samuel asked.

"Of course I am. It will make me stronger." Scott softly replied while watching a man with ice magic make shaved ice for some kids.

Samuel sighed and ruffled Scott's messy hair before replying. "You need to loosen up, you know. Your 15, you should act like it."

Scott batted his uncle's hand away with a blush on his face.

"I'm not a kid. I'm just thinking about the future." Scott justified, his blush not going away.

Samuel chuckled and pointed forward. Scott looked and saw that they had arrived at the Grimoire tower. It was a tower that stood tall against the surrounding buildings. They saw that a lot of people had arrived. Most were commoners like him, but Scott could also see a couple of nobles from how they dressed. One noble was pushing people out of the way to get inside. Scott and Samuel entered the Grimoire tower. It was cylinder-shaped with walls full of Grimoires from big to small, wide to narrow. Scott chose a spot near a stage, while Samuel decided to wait near the door. They waited for the tower master to start the ceremony.

After waiting a few minutes, Scott got bored and decided to play with his magic. He held his arm out with his palm facing up. After a second, green slime started coming from his hand. It began to flow on his palm until a big ball was in his hand. It was as big as his head. Then, two black eyes appeared on it and a mouth that blended with its green body. Scott smiled softly at him before he spoke.

"How are you, Slimy?" His dull eyes got brighter seeing Slimy.

Slimy didn't speak, but it did bounce its body on his hand.

"Aw, I see that you're doing well, my friend," Scott answered, understanding what Slimy had met.

"Are you excited?" Scott continued softly, his excitement making Slimy jump up and down.

Before Scott could say anything else, someone coughed from the front, and he saw an older man with long white hair standing on a stage.

"Welcome to Grimoire Acceptance Ceremony. I'm happy to see so many new faces this year!" The older man proclaimed. "I am the tower master, and I welcome you all. I have been a tower master for many years and have seen many who have become great members of this kingdom—even some Magic Knights! "He continued excitedly. "I hope this year is no different and many of you become more fantastic versions of yourselves, and it all starts here!" He finished.

After the Tower master finished, Grimoires emerged from the wall and flew around. They all glowed in different colors. Scott put Slimy on his head and waited for his grimoire to come to him. Slimy shook excitedly in anticipation, which Scott felt deep inside but wasn't showing. Scott watched as grimoires floated toward different people. Some were excited that the next chapter of their life was starting. He saw that some looked somber and that theirs were smaller than others.

When he looked up, he saw one approaching fast at him. He couldn't see what it looked like since it was glowing a rainbow of colors. It then landed on his open palm. Confused, he tilted his head to the side.

"Slimy, have you ever seen a grimoire like this before?" Scott asked.

Slimy shook side to side, shaking Scott's black hair.

"I guess mine is special, huh," Scott replied.

Scott looked at his grimoire and was still confused. It glowed every color of the rainbow, but that's not what confused him. What did was the fact that it was the size of a yul coin but as tall as him. He frowned because he didn't know how to carry this around.

"HAHA! What kind of Grimoire is that!" a snobby voice came to his side.

He turned and saw a short teen with curly, light brown hair. The clothes were that of a noble class, and he had a normal-looking grimoire. Since this noble yelled, it got everyone's attention.

"Wow, what a weird grimoire." Some committed.

"Yay, I'm glad mine is normal." Some also added.

"How do you even read from something that small." the noble added, still laughing.

Then, like an infection, everyone started laughing and pointing at Scott. Scott stood there, his eyes becoming dull. Slimy was shaking violently with anger.

'Why does it matter to you?' Scott thought, 'All that matters is that it makes me stronger.'

Scott walked toward the door a second later, carrying his grimoire with both hands. He stopped near the entrance and turned towards his uncle, who only frowned at the laughing. He turned to Scott to ask if he was okay but paused. Scott was red-faced with a mix of anger and embarrassment. Slimy was shaking so violently that Scott's hair was getting messed up. Samuel shook his head and started walking out with Scott on his heel.

As they exited the Grimoire tower, Scott turned his head to Samuel. Samuel could see that Scott's eyes were dull now, more than usual. Tears were in the corner of his eyes, waiting to flow down his face.

"We will need to order a special case for my grimoire," Scott said straight-faced but was still red. His mask was full on now, and Samuel grimaced internally, knowing that Scott wanted to be alone and home. Slimy was still shaking, but not to the same extent.

"It does seem like that," Samuel replied, looking up and down at Scott's grimoire. "But that won't be a problem, and most custom cases don't cost too much."

"That is good, and I don't wish to put you in debt because my grimoire decided to be unique," Scott replied, his soft voice barely a whisper now.

They then walked in silence. Scott looked forward, his mask hiding his true emotions as he ignored everyone staring and whispering about his grimoire. Slimy was both looking down in embarrassment and shaking violently in anger. Samuel looked worried at his nephew, knowing how he was feeling because of Slimy. They stayed silent all the way home. Once inside, they made their way to the dinner table. Scott put Slimy on the table and then turned to his uncle.

"Do you know how long it will take to make my case?" Scott asked.

"Probably about a week if I go order it tomorrow. Why do you ask?" Samuel replied,

"I want to start practicing my magic immediately. If I want to join the Magic Knights, I must be better than I am right now." Scott replied. Slimy was wiggling with excitement.

Samuel chuckled and ruffled Scotts. "Okay, first I have to get your Grimoire's dimensions, and I will head to the shop to schedule it," Samuel said with a cheeky smile. "How about I do it now, and you start dinner?"

Scott nodded, and he and Slimy headed into the kitchen. Samuel picked up the grimoire and examined it. He looked at the cover and saw the design. It was multi-colored with different colored slimes on it. A three-leaf clover was in the middle of it. But it was too small to see anything in more detail. Samuel mused to himself. 'Sarah, if you could see your son's grimoire. You would be so fascinated that no one could have stopped you from researching everything about it.' And with a heavy sigh, remembering his little sister, he took the grimoire into his study.

Six months have passed since the Grimoire Acceptance Ceromney. Scott put on his boots and grabbed his grimoire and its case. It was a slick black rectangular shape made of leather. It is a little taller than him and narrow as a can, with a green slime patch embroidered in the middle.

Today was the day of the Magic Knights Entrance Exam. Luckily, the exam is in Kikka, so he didn't need to hurry. He opened his bedroom door and walked out, ready to head to the Colosseum. He turned towards the kitchen to head to the front door but paused when he saw his uncle passed out at the table. His research papers cover all of the table. Scott just sighed and walked over to him. He tapped Samuel's head until he woke up with a start.

"I'm up!" Samuel yelled.

Samuel looked around until his eyes landed on dull, dark red eyes. He yawned and stretched his back.

"Oh, hey, kiddo. You're heading to the Exam today, right?" Samuel asked.

Scott nodded before holding his arms out in front of him. Samuel chuckled and gave Scott a big hug. After a minute of hugging, they let go, and Scott looked at Samuel's research papers. He saw what looked like demons and wicked monsters. Samuel noticed and rubbed the back of his head.

"You're still studying demons, hmm?" Scott asked, his soft voice not portraying his curiosity.

"Yep, I'm just picking up where your mother left off. She was always faster at this than I was." Samuel said, ending a bit melancholy.

"Well, keep up the good work, I suppose." Scott committed, his eyes getting a little duller. He tried ignoring the ache in his heart from hearing about his mother.

After an awkward silence, Scott turned to the door. Before he could open the front door, Samuel added.

"Good luck, Scott!"

"Thank you," Scott replied, his soft voice barely heard, before opening the front door and leaving.

It was mid-day in Kikka, but it was busier than most days since the Exam, which meant more potential customers. As he made his way to the Colosseum, he watched merchants busily make sales and hassled customers into thinking they had the best deals. He sighed, imagining how annoying it would be to be a merchant. 'Too much talking for my tastes.' Scott thought. He watched merchants use their magic, from cooking food with fire magic to using plant magic to grow small trees to sell. Scott continued as the city bustled around him until he reached the exam site. When he arrived at the exam, a line of people had already been formed.

Scott got in the back of the line and waited as they were processed to enter. As he waited, he looked around and saw that almost everyone here was a commoner or a peasant. He did notice there were some nobles, too. 'I hope there isn't any snobby noble,' Scott thought.

"Name and hometown." A man asked behind a booth.

Scott saw that he was about to be next in line. After a minute, he was up next.

"Name and hometown," The man said to Scott.

"Scott Lambergotem and Kikkia." Scott replied.

The man wrote down the information and then looked back up.

"Okay, I just need to touch your grimoire, and we will be all done." The man added.

Scott then reached back and undid the belt that held the top of his case. He then grabbed the top of his grimoire and pulled it out. The man's eyes grew in surprise at the shape of Scott's grimoire.

"Is that your grimoire?" The man asked in disbelief.

Scott nodded, no emotion showing on his face. Scott heard some people behind him start to gossip. 'Why does it matter that it's different?" Scott grounded in his mind.

"Well, okay then." Then the man said while putting his palm on Scott's grimoire.

After a second, it glowed a soft white before stopping.

"Okay, your number 146." The man finished, ushering the next person to come.

Scott put his grimoire back into its case and headed inside, ignoring all that stared and whispered about him and his grimoire. Once inside, he found a place and waited for the Exam to start. After waiting a minute, he got bored and decided to summon Slimy.

"How are you doing, Slimy?" Scott softly asked with a slight smile, his eyes losing their dullness.

Slimy wiggled excitedly in response.

"I see. You excited as I am, huh?"

Then, a bird landed on his arm. It was black with a red face and a white belly. It screeched at him once before Slimy lunged for it. The bird didn't have time to fly away before Slimy swallowed it whole. The bird tried to get free, but it was fruitless. Luckily for the bird, Slimy then spat it out. It screeched at Slimy once before flying away towards a different teen.

"You don't like the taste of anti-birds?" Scott asked.

Slimy twisted back and forth.

Scott then heard a commotion near the center of the area. When he turned, he saw a short teen with green eyes and messy ash-blond hair. Over a dozen anti-birds were chasing him back and forth.

"His magic level must be pretty low for that many birds to chase him," Scott said, to which Slimy nodded.

Scott then noticed people laughing and making fun of that boy. He frowned at their behavior, and Slimy shook a little. 'I can't stand people that would laugh at someone just because they seem weaker than themselves,' Scott thought in disgust at everyone's behavior. Scott then looked away and decided just to ignore the commotion.

"Slimy, Which squad would you join if you had a choice," Scott asked curiously.

Slimy bounced up and down in answer.

Scott chuckled before answering. "Ya, I also don't care which one I get into."

Then fireworks started popping into the sky, indicating that the Exam was beginning. Scott put Slimy on his head and turned towards the front of the Colosseum. As he did, the squad captains started making their way to their chairs.

Slimy started shaking with excitement and was drooling ooze from its mouth.

"You want to eat their magic, I see," Scott asked teasingly, to which Slimy bounced up and down.

"Well, If we get into a magic knight squad, many people will be willing to feed you their magic." Scott continued, making Slimy bounce more vigorously.

All but one captain sat down, and the standing one started talking.

"Candidates," The standing captain spoke.

Scott perked up and saw that it was the captain of the Golden Dawn, William Vengeance. Everyone went silent, waiting for the following words.

"I will be conducting this exam." He continued.

He then opened his grimoire, and it started flipping to a page.

"Magic tree, descend!" He chanted.

He then started glowing a bright green, blinding everyone. Then, the sky became dark and cloudy, with the wind blowing harshly against people. The clouds began to swirl to a point where there was a shining light. Then, tree roots started descending from the shining light towards every candidate. The tip of the roots began to melt together, making brooms for everyone.

"Wow, what powerful magic for such a mundane thing." Scott committed while taking a broom from the roots.

Slimy could barely hold back from eating the broom that Scott got.

"Here, you can have a little of the tip," Scott said, holding the tip of the broom to Slimy.

Slimy happily took a bite of the broom. After Slimy digested the tip, he bounced in satisfaction. Scott felt his grimoire shake in response but ignored it and started paying attention to Captain William.

"We will now begin the Magic Knights Entrance Exam," William added while closing his grimoire.

Slimy stopped bouncing as much and put on his most serious face as he could.

"We will now have you all take several tests. We will evaluate your performance and select the candidates we want to add to our squads. If chosen, you will join that squad. If multiple teams choose you, you may select the squad you want to join." William explained.

Scott looked around to gauge everyone. Some were excited and determined, while others were nervous and fidgeting to distract from it.

"For the first exam, we will have you get on those brooms and fly," William told the candidates.

Instantly, there was muttering about having never flow a broom before, which Scott could understand. Most peasants and commoners never got the chance to fly with brooms.

"Mages who can control their magical powers should be able to do this instinctively. It is the most basic way for mages to travel. You shouldn't be here if you cannot fly on a broom. All right, begin." William finished.

Everyone hopped onto their brooms. Most took a bit before they could float, while others took to it naturally and were flying around like they had done it for years. Scott was one of the naturals, having excellent magic control. He was in the top area of the Colosseum. Only a few candidates were up here. Slimy was on his head, bouncing excitedly at their accomplishment.

"All right. The following exam shall be the last one. You will engage in actual combat." William explained.

Everyone started muttering to each other, and some had worried faces.

Then, all of a sudden, the Captain of the Crimson Lions stood up and proclaimed.

"You'll be battling! You will pair off and fight with your partner. You may use your grimoires to attack."

Scott slightly smiled at the notion of finally using your grimoires. He thought back to the previous trials and frowned. Scott didn't do too badly but didn't stand out since he couldn't use his grimoire. He tuned out what the Captains said next as he thought about who to partner with. He saw a lot of magic users with different types, from fire to ice to wind. He could handle those the best, but he would have to find one of them. He was deep in thought when he felt a tap on his shoulder.

Scott turned around, and he just felt dread. It was the same noble from the Grimoire Acceptance Ceremony. The noble had a smug smile like he already had won.

"Ha, I thought I recognized you and your snot ball." The noble proclaimed. "The name's Larrance Frounder and I will be your partner." Larrance continued, his baby-blue eyes full of arrogance.

Scott didn't show it, but Slimy jumped up and down in anticipation.

"That sounds good, and my name is Scott Lamber-" Scott said but got cut off by Larrance.

"I don't care what your name is, and it won't matter because we will never see each other again after this," Larrance said arrogantly.

'God, why me?' Scott thought.

Scott sighed and went to the sidelines since two people were about to battle. When he looked, he saw that it was the teen from earlier. And his opponent reminded him of a bug for some reason. Scott also remembered him saying, "Bah-ha!" a lot during the exam. He watched as the bug teen got squashed like a bug. And the short teen saying he was going to be the Wizard King, which Scott could appreciate his goal. It was something to strive for, even if it was almost unattainable to most people.

"Slimy, does his magic look tasty?" Scott asked while pointing at the short kid.

To Scott's surprise, Slimy shook left to right frantically.

"Hmm, I wonder why that is." Scott committed before he got nudged forward.

"We are going, next commoner," Larrance ordered, to which Scott sighed again and followed him.

As Scott walked towards the center, he heard some of what people were saying about him.

"Wow, a commoner and a noble are fighting next." One said.

"That sucks for the commoner. He's going to get knocked out so fast." Another committed.

"I've been near him, and he's weird, talking to his slime like their best friends." Someone added.

That last one confused Scott. Why is it weird that Slimy was his best friend? What did matter to them if he was a commoner or not? The social class always confused him. But before he could dwell deep into his thoughts, Larrance started talking.

"I hope you ready, commoner, because I'm not going to hold back just because you're weak!" Larrance declared.

Scott frowned at that, and Slimy started shaking with anger, messing up Scott's hair a little. How does this guy know he's weak or not? 'I have worked hard every day for the past six months to get stronger, and just because I'm a commoner, you're going to assume I'm weak?' Scott thought, but all he did was give Larrance a thumbs up.

"Okay, if you guys are ready, you may begin!" The ref shouted and backed away.

"Let's get this started!" Larrance yelled.

"Ice creation magic, Knight of the Ice Kingdom." Larrance chanted, his grimoire glowing a light blue next to him.

In front of him, the ice started forming and growing until it was a ten-foot knight with a giant sword. It towered over Scott, making him look like a bug.

"Haha! How do you like my magic? Impressive, isn't it?" Larrance boosted while ordering his ice knight to attack.

A small smile appeared on Scott's face. 'One of the best attributes to face, lucky me.' Scott thought while putting his arm in front of him. Then his case started glowing a rainbow of colors, shocking everyone around him. Then the buckle came undone, and his grimoire flew out and floated next to him.

Unlike most people with normal grimoires, they just float next to them and flip to the page they were using their magic from. Since the shape of Scott's grimoire it did something unusual. It connects from the top to the bottom of the book, making a perfect circle. All the pages were opened, flipping constantly and spinning vertically to the ground. It made for a dazzling sight that caught everyone's attention, including the captains.

"Slime magic, Fire aspect, Fire Slime," Scott said with a hint of excitement. His dark red eyes showed determination.

Slimy hopped off his head and jumped in front of Scott. Then, he started to lose the green color to a fire-red. The air around Slimy started shimmering from how hot he was getting. Scotts Grimoire glowed a bright red for a second before returning to its rainbow color.

"Slimy, take out his legs," Scott ordered, to which Slimy complied. His body started to swell up like a balloon before he breathed a torrent of fire at the ice knight's legs. It was so hot and bright that it was hard for anyone to look directly at them.

Everyone jumped back from the center, not wanting to get burned.

"How can a commoner produce that much fire?" a noble asked, dumbfounded.

"AH!" Larrance screamed as the fire licked him.

Steam covered the area, and once it cleared up, the Ice Knight lay on the ground, his legs completely gone while the rest of his body was partially melted. It tried crawling towards Scott but was failing to make much ground. Before Larrance could do anything, Scott continued his attack.

"Slime magic, Normal slime." Scott chanted, and Slimy's body returned to its green body again. "Now, consume the Ice Knight Slimy," Scott ordered, and Slimy happily complied.

Slimy's body started growing until it was four times its original size. He bounced over to the Ice Knight and started swallowing it whole. The Ice Knight tried to fight back with its sword. It swung horizontally to the ground towards Slimy, cutting the air and making a swooshing sound. Slimy opened its mouth and swallowed it as it was about to hit. Laurance watched in disdain as his Ice Knight got gobbled up.

As Slimy ate the inside of him, you could see that the Ice Knight was disappearing. he digested it thoroughly, and Scott's Grimoire glowed an ice blue momentarily.

"Slime magic, Ice Attribute, Ice Slime." Scott chanted.

Slimy's body turned from green to an icy blue, and the ground around him started to freeze slightly.

"What!" Someone exclaimed.

"He can use multiple attributes?" Another committed.

"I'm not done yet!" Larrance yelled angrily, his grimoire flipping to the next spell he was about to use.

"Ice Creation magic, Archer of the Ice Kingdom." Larrance chanted with anger.

In front of a slim Ice Archer was created in front of him. It was smaller than the Ice Knight, being around seven feet. Its bow was in its hands and was made of ice, too. It was as tall as it.

"Now, Ice Archer! Blow him and that snot ball away!" Larrance screamed, a manic glint in his eyes.

The Ice Archer pulled the bow back, and an arrow made of ice formed in the bow. It was slightly glowing ice-blue, getting brighter as the Ice Archer continued to pull back its bow.

"Well, it's over, I guess," A noble mocked. "That commoner did well, but against that much magic, he doesn't stand a chance." He continued.

"Ya, I don't know what he could do to counter that." Another Noble committed.

Scott stood there with his eyes wide. He looked towards Slimy, who was shaking with excitement. 'Is he trying to kill us?!' Scott panickedly grimaced. He then took a deep breath to calm himself profoundly and put on a brave face. 'We have to time this right.' Scott calculated in his mind.

"Get ready, Slimy," Scott ordered, his voice calm and calculated.

The Ice Archer pulled the string as far back as possible. The arrow was glowing so bright that it covered the entire area with an ice-blue color, making it hard to stare. There was a crack as it released the string, as if from a whip and a loud sonic boom. It flew through the air faster than ordinary people could track.

The world was in slow motion from Scott's point of view. As he watched the arrow get closer and closer, he calculated when to act. '5, 4, 3, 2, 1,' Scott thought. Then, when he reached zero, he yelled. "NOW!" It was about four feet from Scott when Slimy jumped into the air, his mouth open.

Slimy swallowed the arrow. As soon as that happened, it exploded with such force that Slimy expanded ten feet in all directions, pushing Scott back and making him fall. The explosion shook the Colssuom, making some fall on their butts. It swirled inside Slimy, making him look like a balloon filled with liquid. It only lasted a second, the blast of ice and magic being contained and dissolved into Slimy. When Slimy finally finished consuming the arrow, he returned to the same size and let out a burp. Scott returned to his feet, brushing the dust off his white shirt. He was panting slightly and was starting to sweat.

Everyone was silent, not believing what they were seeing. Most were in awe that Slimy had stopped such a powerful spell. While some felt inadequate that they could never reach such heights in power, no matter how much they trained.

"Slimy, consume him," Scott said while pointing at the Ice Archer.

Slimy happily zoomed towards the Ice Archer, who was trying to load another arrow. Slimy soon enveloped it and quickly consumed it. After Slimy finished his snack, he looked at the main course with a glint of hunger.

Larrance's eyes went wide, and he panickedly tried to do another spell, but it was too late as Slimy was faster than him. Slimy then started to envelop him. He tried to struggle, but Slimy had a tight hold on him. When Slimy was done, Larrance's body was fully enveloped, just his head exposed.

"You think you've bested me, commoner!" Larrance yelled in anger. "I will show you! Ice creation magic, Ice Kings Return." Larrance chanted.

Scott grew a big smile as the crowd waited for something to happen, but nothing did.

"What! What did you do, commoner?! I can't use my magic!" Larrance cried in anger.

"As long as you're in Slimy's body and are trying to use the same attribute that he is, you can't use that type of magic," Scott explained.

Larrance paled after hearing that. He started struggling harder than ever.

"Slimy, it's time to finish this. Drain his mana to about 10%. We don't want to kill him." Scott ordered casually like he was talking to an old friend about their day.

Larrance tried his best to escape Slimy by pushing out his magic and trying to freeze over Slimy but failed. Then, his vision became blurry as his magic level lowered before he finally passed out. As this happened, the ice around Slimy started growing as he gained more and more ice magic.

"Larrance is knocked out. The winner is Scott!" The ref announced.

The Colosseum was silent, not knowing how to process that fight. Scott ignored everyone and looked toward the Captains to see their reactions. Most seemed either put off or not impressed, but two seemed impressed. Scott had a slight smile on his face seeing that. He turned back and saw that he had forgotten about Larrance and Slimy.

"Slimy, spit him out," Scott ordered, which Slimy wiggled back at him. "I don't care that his magic tastes good. You have to let him go." Scott argued.

Slimy slowly spat Larrance out with a burp, getting the last bit of magic he could get. Larrance lay on the grown, pale face, and foam was coming out of the corner of his mouth.

"Slime magic, Normal slime." Scott chanted, and Slimy turned back to normal.

Slimy then bounced his way back to Scott before jumping onto his head. His grimoire floated back into his case and shut itself. They then walked to the sidelines so that the fights could continue. Scott grimaced as some blood seeped out from the corner of his mouth. Scott quickly wiped it away, hoping no one saw.

Scott didn't notice, but everyone was giving him a wide birth and not trusting the slime that easily defeated a noble and gobbled him up. When they stopped and turned back to the center, another battle was about to begin.

"So, did you take more than 90% Slimy?" Scott asked, picking up Slimy from his head and holding him face to face.

Slimy shook side to side, but his eyes diverted to the left. Scott sighed before continuing.

"I'm not going mad if you did. I just want to know." Scott added.

Slimy blushed before bouncing five times.

"I see, so you left him with 5% of his magic." Scott committed

Everyone who was somewhat near him stepped away after hearing that Slimy only took around a minute and a half to drain a noble down to 5% magic power.

Scott watched the rest of the battles and asked Slimy if anyone had tasty-looking magic. The guy with the four-leaf clover grimoire was the only notable, which didn't surprise Scott. He could feel how much magic he had used when he summoned a tornado. Scott had to hold Slimy back physically when that happened.

Scott noted some magic that piqued his interest. The battle between the mud noble and the water noble was the second-best.

'I need to refuel on water magic.' Scott thought.

By the time the battles concluded, the sun was setting, and everyone gathered near the front, waiting for what to do next. After a few minutes of waiting, William stood up and walked forward.

"This concludes the exam," William proclaimed. "Now, Candidates whose numbers are called, please step forward."

After that, the numbers started being called. Everyone watched in horror as one after the other got rejected. The first person to be accepted was number 71, and he went to the Purple Orcas. Scott waited for his number nervously, but it didn't show. Slimy, tho, was shaking slightly. When Scott's number was finally called, he took a deep breath and walked forward. He looked up to see if any captain was going to recruit him. He held his breath in anticipation.

"All who wish to offer, please raise your hand." The announcer asked.

Scott could feel his heartbeat in his chest as he waited. After a second, to Scott's amazement and bafflement, four captain's hands went up. The rest of the candidates behind him gasped and looked on in amazement and jealousy. The four captains that raised their hands were Dorothy Unsworth of the Coral Peacocks, Rill Boismortier of the Auqa Deers, Yami Sukehiro of the Black Bulls, and Kaiser Granvorka of the Purple Orcas. Scott looked on in amazement before picking up Slimy from his head.

"So, Slimy, which one has the most tasty-looking magic?" Scott asked, which made those who heard baffled.

Slimy looked at the captains with their hands raised. After a minute, he jumped twice in Scott's hand. Scott nodded at Slimy before talking.

"I will join the Auqa Deers because Slimy thinks you have the tastiest-looking magic." Scott declared, with no emotion to his words.

There was an instant uproar from the candidates while most captains looked on in bafflement at his declaration. Rill was having a hard time keeping a straight face. He had been holding himself back from cheering on everyone during the exam. But what Scott declared straight-faced was about to break him from how funny it was.

Rill looked to his left and saw Yami staring at him intensely before Rill could ask what, Yami spoke up.

"What makes your magic more tasty than mine?" Yami asked, his severe and gruff voice breaking Rill's last bit of self-control.

Rill then started laughing his head off at this situation, which made a tick mark appear on Yami's face. Before Yami could grab his head, Walter smacked Rill on the back of his head.

"I know you are only 19, but you shouldn't behave like that in front of all the candidates." Walter chastised, which made Rill finally stop laughing.

Scott looked on in confusion as everyone was in uproar, laughing and arguing. Scott looked to Slimy for answers, but Slimy just bounced once, confused, too. Scott just shrugged and walked towards the waiting room for those who got in, ignoring everyone.
