Mate who Rejects

Woah! What's going on?

I slapped my cheeks. I felt my neck and face heating up. The next second, I buried my face in the pillow in utter shame.

Oh my goodness. What had happened? How could I be kissed by an ordinary human like Sol and overreact like that?

Damn it. It wasn't just my face that was heating up. My body heated up as well. How could an ordinary person have so much influence over me?

And this is confusing. I'm a Luna for an Alpha named Sergey Moon. I'm his mate. I shouldn't have reacted to Sol.

But instead I'm in a rage because of a kiss from Sol. No, not just one kiss. Come to think of it, I actually felt something strange when I first met him.

"Lei? Are you asleep?"

I gasped in surprise. I quickly pulled back the covers and got out of bed. I glanced at the clock on the wall before I went to open the door.

Eleven o'clock at night.

"Hi, Dad." I greeted, pretending to be happy.

Dad asked permission to enter. The door was wide open, letting the air from outside in.

"It's hot outside." Dad commented on my wide-open bedroom window.

I grimaced. I didn't move to close the door, despite Dad's sarcasm.

"It's really hot, Dad." I grinned.

"I hope it's just the heat. It wasn't anything else that made you open the window." Dad sat on the end of my bed.

"What other thing, Dad?"

"Running away maybe?"

I gasped. "Jesus, Dad. How could I think that? I still love being your daughter."

Dad looked at me closely. "The kid from the front of the house was here this afternoon. Your mom told me something you shouldn't have done."

Mom's a snitch!

I complained loudly to myself. How could I not realize that Mom was peeping at me and Sol.

"Lei, remember. You are Sergey's fiancee. You shouldn't have relationships with other man."

"Dad, I'm not seeing another man."

Dad looked at me very sharply. I had no intention of backing down. We had the same genes. Stubborn.

"Then what did your mother see this afternoon?" Dad's question challenged me to be honest.

I took a long breath. I had to ask her after all. I had harbored this curiosity for so long without having a chance to get an answer.

"Dad, I would like to ask you a question. I hope you'll answer honestly."

"Just ask, Lei."

"Why did Dad keep me away from the clan?"

Dad frowned. No answer came. Finally I asked again.

"Sergey took me to the pack once. There were many teenagers my age who also went out, but they came back regularly because the pack was their family."

Dad looked at me sharply. "Don't ask too many questions, Lei. The less you know, the better for you."

"Dad-"

"And don't go near that human boy. He's not for you."

I was stunned. I was speechless.

"Remember, Lei. You are Sergey's fiancee. You belong only to Sergey Moon." Dad said again.

My fists tightened. Without realizing it, my two fangs slowly grew longer.

This was the first time I showed my werewolf side when I wasn't in the full moon period. It was a new thing for me, but I didn't really feel it because I was annoyed with my father.

"Dad, do you feel the same surge of passion when you see Mom?" I asked suddenly.

The question had been in the back of my mind for a long time. It seemed absolutely impossible that a mate could not feel his own mate.

Unless the mate was given by the Moon Goddess, an Alpha looking for his own Luna would automatically sense the existence of the other.

However, this never happened to me in Sergey's case. I never felt the distinctive heat of a werewolf in heat.

With Sergey my heart was beating fast. But not for romantic reasons. It was beating faster out of fear for Sergey.

Fear that the clan leader would find out that I didn't share his feelings.

"Don't even think about it, Lei."

I gasped in shock. My eyes darted around to look at Dad.

"Dad read my mind?" I asked with an obviously hurt tone.

If he really felt guilty, Dad didn't show it on his face. Instead, he returned my gaze with a very sharp look.

"I need to know what my own daughter is thinking."

"But not by entering my mind at Dad's whim! Dad has to ask my permission first!" I roared angrily.

"Lei, is this what I get for letting you live with these humans?"

I frowned. Dad's change of subject confused me.

"I let you hang out with those humans to give you a new life experience. But you yelled at me like that."

My fangs rose again. My voice was deep and growling.

"Dad started this fight first."

But my father shook his head.

"Never, Lei. You're the one who started our fight."

"I didn't..."

"If you hadn't kissed that human boy, we wouldn't have to fight." Dad cut me off.

My irritation exploded. My chest felt so tight that even breathing was difficult. The anger I felt now quickly burned through me.

"Dad interfered with my business. He even violated my privacy."

"I wouldn't have done that if you understood your position, Lei. How many times must I tell you? You are Sergey Moon's fiancee. In the future, you will accompany Sergey to lead the Moon Clan."

This fact made me shudder with horror. It was not my dream to be involved in clan intrigues and politics.

It was not my passion. All I wanted was to live peacefully and happily with someone who could accept me for who I was.

I'm not looking forward to marriage. Let's be honest. Besides Sergey, who else would accept a half-breed like me?

Humans would be terrified of my half-werewolf self. My own people would also ridicule me for being of mixed blood. If I had not been Sergey's fiancée, I would have been banished from the pack and become a lone wolf.

"Think about this, Lei. Break off your relationship with this human boy immediately. If necessary, we'll move out of here as soon as possible."

I was stunned, "Move... again?"

"Yes. So that you don't fall in love with this human boy."

I blinked my eyes. My instincts told me something was wrong.

But before I could ask, Dad had already left the room. He left me alone in confusion and anger.

And I couldn't take it anymore.

It was useless to stay in this small room. I quickly grabbed my hooded jacket. Instead of going through the front door, I opened the bedroom window and used my werewolf abilities to easily jump down.

My feet landed softly on the thick, neatly cut grass. Careful not to step on the alarm sensor, I began to walk away from my yard.

Unfortunately, my escape was not smooth this time. Intent on calming down, I ran into Sol doing his nightly workout.

"Hi, beautiful. Were you looking for me?"

I pursed my lips. I took wide steps to avoid Sol.

But my heart can't lie. Sol's appearance tonight could make my insides jump out of my chest. Even though he's only wearing dark sweatpants and a matching baggy t-shirt.

"Come on, Lei. Just tell me if you miss me." Sol follows my footsteps, but walks backwards to get a better look at me.

"What the hell, Sol? Who missed you?"

"Then why did you jump out of your room at this hour?"

I froze. My footsteps immediately stopped. Very quickly I turned to the guy.

"You... saw me?"

"Yup!" Sol nodded proudly.

"Asshole."

"Hey, why are you cursing me?"

I walked again, faster this time. "You shouldn't have seen me, Sol."

"Unfortunately, I did see you. Do you want me to run away with you?"

"No."

"Then do you want to join me for some exercise?" Sol changed the question.

"No."

"This girlfriend of mine is a wild one."

I nearly tripped over my own feet. I glared at him. "Who do you call your girlfriend?"

Sol's laughter was melodious. "You, of course. Is there anyone else here?"

"Sol, this is not funny." I began to feel uncomfortable.

It wasn't that I didn't like what he was saying. On the contrary. I actually like it a lot!

This is what I wanted. To be someone's girlfriend and feel the throbbing that makes my heart warm. It's just that Dad's words that flashed back in my mind made me feel that Sol's actions were very unwise.

"Lei, I'm serious about my feelings." Sol came closer.

I reflexively stepped back. My eyes were wide. My wolf instincts suddenly kicked in.

Something was wrong.

I looked left and right to make sure everything was still okay. There was nothing strange. The streets of this block were still quiet and deserted.

So I focused on Sol again. We were probably only inches from each other. I could feel her body heat and it made my heart melt.

"That kiss," Sol said again, "was the first thing I ever did for a girl."

I was wide-eyed. No! How could that be? Sol was handsome and must have been very popular in his town. How could this be ....

"Your first kiss?" I repeated in a tone of disbelief.

Sol nodded. I was not wrong. Even in the dimness of the night, with only the garden lights, Sol's cheeks were flushed.

"And I only kiss girls I like, Lei." The man said again in a deep voice.

I staggered, but tried my best to stay upright. This really was the phenomenal discovery of the century. Was Alaska so old that Sol had just become a very traditional man?

I was still trying to find an answer when my mind was disturbed again. It felt uncomfortable. I looked left and right again. My nose tried to sniff the air, but there was no strange smell.

"So, Lei ...."

I blinked as Sol's dark eyes stared at me intensely. This time, I was helpless under his gaze. I let Sol wrap his arms around my waist and pull me closer.

"I want us to date. You're my soul mate, Lei. You're all I want."

I didn't say anything. I was really speechless. It's very difficult to speak when you're in this position.

My heart longed for Sol, but Sergey's image kept running through my mind. My hand should push Sol away, but damn it. It was stuck at my side, as if it didn't have the strength to lift.

Then I saw Sol lower his head and begin to tilt her face. My heart was pounding so hard it was about to explode. Of course, my eyes were closed, waiting anxiously and expectantly to see what would happen next.

Then there was a loud crash, followed by me being unceremoniously thrown backwards. I screamed and reflexively opened my eyes. And there I saw that Sol had also been thrown to the pavement. I didn't know who had attacked us. My movements were based on instinct alone.

Then I knew that I wasn't Sergey's buddy. Yes, it's official. I had rejected Sergey Moon.
