54 I Made You Breakfast

I woke up in the big bed by myself. After Damon revealed the details of his loss we talked some more. He told me about how after everything he decided to not even be involved with anyone by choice. He didn't want anyone to be driven away by Martin again. When events needed him to be with a date he hired someone and then sent them on their way.

I was the exception that he was willing to get involved with. He had noticed the change in Martin when he had started coming around more. That's when I had caught his attention.

We went to bed after talking about everything. He had held me close to him the entire night while we slept. Even when I would turn he found a way to be as close as he could. Which is why I was surprised that he wasn't still in here with me.

I got out of the bed and headed towards the living room. I assumed he wouldn't run off without saying anything. He was in the kitchen with his back to me as I approached him. He must've sensed I came out because he wasn't startled when I sat down at the kitchen island on a stool.

He turned around with a smile on his face. "Good morning Love."

I looked at him curiously. He seemed to be in high spirits even after last night. It made me wonder if he had drank enough whiskey that maybe he had been under the influence when he confided in me. He glanced at me and noticed the confusion on my face.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"Do you remember last night?" I responded.

He nodded. "Yes. I remember last night Kaydence. What about it?" His tone was soft which let me know he wasn't upset with me asking.

"You just seem to be in a good mood this morning, so I wanted to make sure." I looked over his face, trying to see if I could read any emotion from him.

"It's a heartbreaking topic, but it felt good to get it off of my chest." He explained. "It's not something you ever really can get over. But I know that I can't change the past so I deal with it the best I can."

I looked down to the counter. I felt bad for bringing it up again when he seemed to be in a good mood. "I'm sorry."

He walked to my side of the counter. He caressed my cheek gently and then made me look at him. He seemed relaxed. "Don't be Love. The fact I can trust you to share that part of my life means we're moving forward in our relationship. My father didn't let the information come out when it happened. He didn't want the business to be affected in any way, so I always felt I had to hide it. It's a relief to be able to have someone to talk to."

I gave him a slight smile. I was glad I could be a safe place for him. The minor argument last night was just him needing to be vulnerable. My heart hurt for him though, I wish I could take his pain away completely.

He came a little closer to the stool I was on and pulled me close. My head was against his warm chest. I could hear his heart beating. Being close to him like this was one of the best feelings in the world. I would do anything to stay with him like this forever if I could.

"I made you breakfast." He spoke as he finally pulled away and brought me a plate with bacon, scrambled eggs and hash browns.

"You can cook too?" I teased.

He got a look on his face as if I had offended him. "Yes I can cook. Now be nice and try it or I'll eat two plates of breakfast and you can have cereal." He teased as he grabbed his own plate and brought it over to sit next to me.

I let a slight chuckle out. "Fine."

I took a bite of food from my plate. I was pleasantly surprised with how much flavor was packed into such a simple dish. Whatever he used for seasonings it worked well. I noticed he was looking at me as I ate. There was a smirk on his lips, he knew it was delicious.

"It's good right?" He asked.

"I mean I'm not dead so it's edible." I teased once more. "Yes Damon, it's delicious. Thank you."

He seemed satisfied with my follow up answer and ate his plate of food. We were finished when he spoke up. "What do you want to do today?" He asked.

"I don't know. Don't you have any business or anything still?" I asked. I figured we'd be on the first flight home if he didn't have a purpose for still being here.

"We accomplished the only reason I came here. I figured we'd stay an extra day to celebrate getting the contract from that snake." He was referring to Justin.

"I see." I responded. "I don't know. I've never been here before."

"Hmm." He looked in thought for a moment and I could see a sexy smirk take over his face. Got up and came behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. "We could officially make up." He suggested seductively in my ear.

"Oh really?" I responded.

He placed a few kisses on my neck. "Yes. Once for making up," he paused and placed more kisses, "And once for celebrating the contract."

Before he could make a further move there was a knock on the door. He let out a sigh and made his way to the door. He looked through the peephole and opened it to let Stacey inside.

"What is it?" He asked with slight irritation.

"The front office called me and told me to let you know that Mr. Moore is here and would like to meet with you." She spoke.

"What does he want? There's no business for him to be here anymore." Damon asked her.

"Apparently he had heard about Mr. Benson signing the contract with you and rushed here immediately. I had them inform him that it was too late and you would want him to just go home but he's refusing." Stacey looked uneasy. It was either because she knew she interrupted something, she knew she brought bad news, or it was a mix of both. It also had to be awkward for her to see her boss in pajamas and not a suit.

Damon ran a hand through his hair. He looked like he was in thought for a moment. "Well he's sure as hell not coming up here. Where does he want me to meet him?"

"The restaurant downstairs." She answered.

Damon nodded, "Let him know I'll be down when I decide."

Stacey nodded and left the penthouse.

"What do you think he wants?" I asked.

"Probably to throw a temper tantrum as always. Go get ready Love, you're coming with me." Damon instructed.
