Chapter ten: Pearl.

"What do you mean by that?" Mike asked in shock, feeling an emotional break down.

"Yes, I am going out" Pearl said.

"I don't understand? To where? To who? Are you dating someone else?" Mike asked these questions, showing the level of emotional shock he is in.

"I am going to work! Silly…" Pearl said.

Mike gasps, "oh! God! That was close please don't do that again" Mike said, with a voice of relief.

"You still love me? I am surprised" pearl said, she looked at Mike as she picked up her coat and was about to head out.

"I still love you, I can never replace you but I thought you work by day shift in the hospital not night shift?" Mike asked.

"Yeah, something came up" Pearl said.

"And what is that?" Mike asked.

"One of the nurses can not make it today and I was called to fill in for her" Pearl said.

"Oh! I thought I from the start of the conversation that you were going to leave me" Mike said.

"I wish…" Pearl said, as she pushes Mike aside from the door and went out of the house.

"You are joking right?" Mike asked with a loud voice, as Pearl leaves the house but she didn't reply him.

Mike shuts the door behind him that Pearl left opened. Mike, just shrug off Pearl's last statement and went to watch television with his son, Roy.

After a long night shift, pearl came back exhausted, Mike prepared breakfast and served her though she was asleep. He took Roy to school that morning before he goes for his unusual business.

Mike and his son, Roy got to the bus station and as they waited for the bus. When the bus arrived, due to the rush by people to enter the bus, Roy mistakenly stepped on a man, wearing a suit and he quickly apologize.

"I am sorry sir, it was a mistake, okay let me clean your shoe for you" Roy said, as he bends down to right his wrong.

"Get off me! You brat!" the man shouted, Roy shifts back in fear, holding his father, Mike.

"Sir It was a mistake and the kid is trying to apologize, showing that he is a good kid" Mike said, at this point everyone has already alighted the bus and it was moving.

"Oh! Please shut up your face hole!" the man shouted, drawing the attention of everyone in the bus.

"Really? The kid is trying to apologize and why are you insulting him?" Mike asked, now Mike voice tone is getting louder.

"I don't want it! I guess you are his father, that is why he tried to steal from me right? (he turned to Roy ) they should lock up you and your father in prison!" the man said with a boostful look in his face.

Those words sent mike to memory lane, the day his father was sentenced to prison, that made Mike's mood at that moment to swing, making him calm and cold. Mike signaled his son, Roy to seat down while he stood face to face with the angry man.

Everyone saw what is happening and noticed mood but said nothing but rather mind their business. The angry man refused to have a seat and come in contact with anyone on the bus rather held on to the hanger in the double deck bus.

Mike looked at him straight in the eye. "What?" the man asked rudely.

"What makes you feel confident and makes you think you can talk to anyone, anyhow you like?" Mike asked calmly.

The man brought out a little bundle of cash from his suit pocket and said "this… get that into your skull!". And he returned the money back into his pocket.

Mike smiled and said "there is not wrong being the first victim"

The man did not understand, he just pulled the brakes, signaling the bus driver that will like to stop at the next bus stop. The bus comes to a stop and due to the movement or quick stop of the bus, Mike mistakenly bumps into the man, as he tries to disembark from the bus.

As the angry fellow get off the bus, he turned back to take a last glimpse of Mike in the bus, as it continued its Trek.

The man looked at Mike in disgust but Mike waves the man's wallet at him. In shock, the man started checking himself and did not see his wallet and he chased the bus but did not catch up with it while Mike laughed at him.

"Dad, what is going on? Why Is that man running after the bus?" Roy asked.

"Nothing really, he just wants to apologize for the things he said earlier but as you can see, he is too late". Mike said, with a smile.

Meanwhile, at the police station, police commissioner Reynold called Officer Joe and Officer Ruby to his office. Officer Joe and Ruby entered and saluted him.

"Have a seat" police Commissioner Reynold said, officer Joe and Ruby sat down.

"What do we have on the jewelry case?" police commissioner Reynold asked, looking at the two officers with a serious look on his face.

"Umm… Sir, as we didn't get an actual visual of the suspect's face, I saw his eyes and nose, so I used them and crafted these pictures (showing the commissioner a lot of hand-drawing pictures)" Officer Joe said.

Police Commissioner Reynold examined the drawings, one by one, and said "Why do they don't look alike?"

"Sir, as I said earlier, we didn't get a visual of the suspect but I think this one (pointing at one of the drawings that looks like Mike) is the exact picture of the suspect" officer Joe said.

"Are you sure?" officer Ruby whispered, Joe nodded.

Police commissioner Reynold looked at the picture that officer Joe picked carefully and said "this is stupid! You don't have the suspect identity and you are showing me drawings, drawings!! For God sake, do you think we are joking here?"

"No sir, but I think miss Jane will have valuable information about the suspect" officer Ruby said.

"Don't involve her again, unless you want your badges taken away" police commissioner Reynold warned them.

"But Sir…."

"No but! I warned both of you!" police commissioner Reynold said, shouting with a loud voice.

"In fact, Joe, you are no more in charge of this case" police commissioner Reynold said.

"But Sir, I started this case and I am close, I can feel it" officer Joe said.

"But it's not showing at all" police commissioner Reynold said.

"But, sir, give him time" officer Ruby said.

Police commissioner Reynold picked up the telephone on his desk and said "bring in Eric". Minutes later, a tall young man walked in and saluted the commissioner but ignored Joe and Ruby presence.

"This is Inspector Eric from the special crimes unit, he will be in charge of this case from now on," police commissioner Reynold said.
