chapter 10. The Aftermath

Chapter 10: The Aftermath

Kaidën and his friends trudged back to the school, exhausted and battered from their ordeal at the windmill. They knew they'd broken curfew and would face consequences, but they hadn't expected to get caught so quickly.

As they approached the dorm, they were ambushed by Professor Orion and a team of campus security. "Well, well, well," Orion sneered, eyeing their disheveled state. "Look what we have here. The curfew breakers."

The group was hauled off to the dean's office, where they faced a stern lecture and a slew of punishments: detention, loss of privileges, and extra coursework.

"But, Dean," Kaidën protested, "we were just—"

"I don't want to hear it, Kaidën," the dean interrupted. "You know the rules. You broke them. Now, face the consequences."

Arin spoke up, his voice laced with frustration. "With all due respect, Dean, we're trying to save the world from the Zorvath. Can't you see we're fighting a bigger battle here?"

The dean raised an eyebrow. "I'm sure that's exactly what you were doing at the windmill in the dead of night. Save it, Arin."

Jax sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "We knew the risks, guys. We just have to take our punishment and move on."

Lyra's eyes flashed with determination. "We can't let this setback stop us. We have to keep fighting, for ourselves and for the world."

As they left the dean's office, Kaidën nodded in agreement. "Lyra's right. We can't let Zor-Veen win. We'll find a way to stop him, together."

But as they walked back to their dorm, they couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched, that Zor-Veen's eyes were still on them, waiting for his next move.

The rest of the week passed in a blur of detention, extra coursework, and whispered conversations in the dead of night. The group knew they had to keep their plans secret, but it was hard to resist the urge to act, to strike back against the Zorvath.

One night, as they huddled in Kaidën's dorm room, Lyra spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper. "We need to get our hands on some Zorvath tech. If we can reverse-engineer it, we might be able to find a weakness."

Arin nodded, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "I know just the place to look. An abandoned Zorvath lab on the outskirts of town. It's risky, but it could pay off."

Kaidën grinned, his hybrid powers stirring. "Let's do it. We're in this together, always."

And with that, the group began to plan their next move, their determination and bond stronger than ever.
