CHAPTER 11: HER ABODE 2

Darica's abode was very simple actually, and she had it customized for her. She didn't need to work on it, so it was very expensive more than the vans that she, Uncle Travis, and some of the men she was close to personally did by themselves.

When entering the container, the open-plan kitchen and living room would be first.

The kitchen area has features like quartz countertops and a stainless-steel sink that was wide and deep enough to wash almost anything. The kitchen also had a compact under-counter microwave stove, oven, and refrigerator.

There was plenty of storage in the cabinets that have pull-out drawers to allow easy storage of things all the way to the back.

Then the living room which was just next to the kitchen didn't have a lot of things. There was a sofa and a coffee table.

However, the sofa could be extended to make an extra bed if there was ever a guest.

After the kitchen. The bathroom and closet faced each other in the central part of the home.

The closet had bi-fold doors that conceal the clothes' storage and any other items that she would want. While the bathroom was hidden behind mirrored sliding doors.

After that, the next part was a large shower stall on one side and a sink and vanity on the other. The vanity could be used as storage space for clothes as it had large drawers on the bottom.

Coming up to that point, what followed next was the important space in the whole house, the bedroom. And since space was always a problem, the bed was customized. And with her love for comfort, she had the queen bed customized into the house, which came with more space beneath it.

Inside the bedroom, there was a stand-up desk that could turn the place into an office or a space to study if she didn't want to do that in the living room.

And that was how Darica's shipping container house looked like from the outside.

And since the land all that was built on was on the outskirts, Darica had a lot of solar panels in place to power up every single house found in the tiny village of hers.

One of the reasons why she was so adamant about buying her house and choosing that kind of living instead of maybe buying a house or renting one, was how cheap it was.

And this was true, especially when land was so expensive the way it was.

If it wasn't for her connections and the favor that person owed her, she wouldn't have been able to buy the 2.5 acres of land which she turned into one of the several tiny villages in Greatia.

As for the vans, those were much simpler and because they were smaller when compared to her house, some facilities like the bathroom and shower weren't available.

Each van was designed in a much simpler way since the budget was limited. However, Darica made sure that what should be found there was added.

So, each van came with a bedroom at the back, storage space in the middle, and a kitchen at the front.

The front part of the van, where the driver was supposed to sit if the van was moving, was designed as a living space and a place to study.

However, one could still study in the bedroom area.

As for the toilets and bathrooms, Darica had them built on the other side of the village.

All the toilets were compost toilets since she didn't want the place to be filled with an odor in the future.

Besides, so much can be done with the end results of the compost. She was just being realistic.

Although she had dug a well in place to supply water in the long run, saving any resource was the important goal at the moment.

Although life would change in the future, in the meantime, since she was a student and most family members were like her, Darica was forced to think more in a conservative way, which wasn't bad the more she thought about it.

And then there was that huge building at the center which didn't seem to make sense upon seeing how unique all the facilities and buildings were in the village.

It was that building that was going to be an integral part of the village as soon as others joined.

It was still being furnished, but she believed that by February, everything would be in place, including the screen wall she wanted Uncle Travis's men to build to enclose the village from the outside.

Although there was a fence, it didn't feel secure enough. So, she wanted something stronger than that. After all, there was so much to be lost if thieves ever thought of breaking in one day, which would be a foolish move on their part.

Uncle Travis wasn't a pushover after all. And when she added a small uncle to the mix, that both of them feared, she didn't want to imagine the horror those people would face.

However, it didn't hurt to prevent such things from happening. People might get hurt in the process. She didn't want anything happening to anyone around her.

She was that protective.

After looking at all the buildings in place, there was a solar field where all the panels were strategically placed in a way that they would provide power to all the buildings.

There was also an enclosed well which was the only source of water in the village.

Another feature of the village was the empty land that Darica was going to turn into a vegetable garden in the future. And small uncle's friend was going to be in charge of that.

And lastly, it was the shed area where all vehicles belonging to the villagers would be parked.

However, despite all this, there was still a lot of land remaining and she was going to think of what to do with it in the future.

But for now, Darica was fine with everything, as adding more would only pressure her and this would make her lose focus and derail what she had planned previously.

Before staying at the village, which she called shamelessly, Monroe Village, since she was the owner and would remain always the head of the place even if she moved, she was living at school or at the house she was caretaking for.

Although the woman returned from her traveling, Darica continued to stay there since the woman allowed it. And in return, she helped with some chores.

When she agreed to become the student council president two years ago when she was just a freshman and in her second semester. She posed a lot of conditions on the administration and one of them back then was for the school to provide her with a place to stay at the dormitories during her stay at the school.

And this room was going to come with no expenses associated with it. So, for two years, she had been smooching off the school and doing it shamelessly too.

If she were to go back and make a decision again, she would do the same and even demand more for what the school had leeched off her was more than what she gained from them.

And that's what life was like.

Hello guys. Hope you are all doing well.
