You know once in a while people need a break, especially if they have children. Every parent deserves a day off from taking care of their very loved children and so did Mrs. and Mr. Walters. They decided that today was the day to lay off and go out together.

"But what about the children?" asked Mrs. Walters.

"How are we to go out when we have 3 little children?" Mrs. Walters said to her husband.

"Oh don't worry about that I already got that sorted."

Soon after someone knocked on the door and once Mr. Walters opened the door there was a teenage girl. She had been a babysitter for only a couple of days, and seemed to be very new and inexperienced.

She went inside

Suddenly, Mrs. Walters told to her to be extra quiet because the children were fast asleep.

The couple thanked her and were about to go to a restaurant where they were going to spend the day. Right before they left, they said they wont be back until very late.

The babysitter had it easy because the children were already sleeping. She got on the couch and on her phone to call her boyfriend. They chatted for awhile until she heard a creak. She shoved it off as nothing and thought it was just the house making noises.

The creaks continued, but the babysitter continued to ignore it.

Once the babysitter was done talking, she was shocked to see that the door hadn't been locked. She thought that the Walters had locked it, but it didn't seemed that way when the babysitter saw that it wasn't.

The lock was a traditional kind of lock, a chain lock where you have to put it in a small hole and slide it.

It wasn't even dark yet, so she decided to do her homework that was supposed to be due in a couple of days. She had been very lazy to even start it and since she had free time, she was going to start working on it upstairs.

The upstairs lights had been shut off.

The babysitter had thought it was opened and remembered that it was. She was a little shaken up now that she noticed it.

She turned on the lights and went up the stairs, but every step was a familiar creep. Though it sounded like every creeks she had heard, but the creeks from the stairs had been oddly familiar.

The babysitter looked around to see three doors, one of them has the sleeping children and extra two rooms. She went on to one of them where she saw a table. It was also the room next to the children.

She sat down and got a call from her boyfriend telling her to be safe and careful because her boyfriend is a believer on the horoscopes fortune teller thing. She didn't really understand it much and didn't really took interests on such things.

"What do you mean I'll be all fine."

"Whatever, just be careful because today seems to be a bad day for you from the reading I got about you."

He hung up

She began her homework and a minute later she got a call.

Thinking it was her boyfriend again, she didn't her take time to read who the caller was and immediately answered the call.

It was odd...

Her boyfriend was never this quiet. The silence made her double check who the caller was. It read "unknown number."

Click

Whoever it was, he or she hung up.

The babysitter went back to her homework but was yet again interrupted by a caller. It was coming from an unknown number. This time there was a voice.

"Have you checked the children?" the voice said in a deep tone.

Click

At first the babysitter thought it was from one of the parents. She ignored it and went back to doing her homework.

Her phone rings

"Have you checked the children?"

"Mr. Walters?!"

Click...

The voice was from man, he had a really deep voice and sounded very menacing like how a villain would talk in his deep voice.

The babysitter wanted to make sure that it actually was coming from one of the parents. She phoned the restaurant where the couples went. When she asks for Mr. Walters, she was told that they already left.

The babysitter got worried and wondered if she should call the police. Even if it was a prank call, she wouldn't had known if the man from the calls was threatening her or not.

She dialed 911

She reports that a stranger has been calling her and keeps on hanging up.

The Dispatcher asked if this stranger was threatening her. She said no.

"Well, there's nothing we can really do about it, and if he calls again you should probably report the prank call to the phone company."

Few minutes go by

The phone rings loudly

"Why haven't you gone and checked the children?!" the voice says.

"Who is this, why are you calling me?!!" she asks, but the caller hangs up.

The babysitter dials 911 again

"I'm scared, I know he's out there watching me!"

"Have you seen him at all?" asks the Dispatcher. She says no.

"Well, there isn't much we can do about it," the dispatcher says. The babysitter goes into panic mode and pleads with him to help her. "Now now, everything will be okay, just follow my directions okay?"

"Tell me your number and street address and we will get to you if anything goes wrong. If you can, try to keep the caller for at least 30 seconds so we can trace the caller. Before you go what is your name?" "My name is Mollie" "Okay Mollie, keep calm and we will try our best to trace the caller."

She agrees and turns the lights off to try and see if there was anyone outside. That's when she gets another call.

"It's me" said the familiar voice. "Why did you turn off the lights?"

"Can you see me?" asks Mollie as she's panicking. "Yes," he says after a long a pause.

"Look, you've scared me," she says. "I'm shaking. Are you happy? Is that what you wanted?" "No."

"Then what do you want?" she asks.

Another long pause. "Your blood."

She slams the phone down, terrified. Almost immediately it rings again. "Leave me alone!" she screams, but it's the Dispatcher calling back.

His voice is URGENT.

"Mollie, we have managed to track the caller, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE. It's coming from another room inside the house. Get out of there! Now!!!"

She runs to the door in tears forgetting about the children's existence. She tried to get out only to find the chain at the top still latched. By the time she unlatched it, she hears a creaking door being opened very slowly. She turned around quickly to see one of them fully opened.

The lights started to flicker from the children's bedroom, revealing the profile of a man standing just inside.

She bursts the door opened and was met with a cop on the doorstep with his gun drawn.

She's safe and that everything is going to be alright. At least that's what she thought. When they capture the intruder in handcuffs, she noticed the blood covered all over his body as he was dragged down.

The babysitter came to find out that at this single night..

All 3 children had been murdered.

乃卂匚长丂丅口尺丫 - This tale has been told to scare teenagers and their friends back in the late 1960s. Though most people nowadays are probably more familiar with it as the plot of the 1979 horror film "When a Stranger Calls" (or the 2006 remake of the same title). It isn't based on real life events or anything like that but it gives a sense of what it's like to be young and inexperienced and alone in a big house caring for someone else's children. The main purpose of the tale is to frighten us, not give us actionable information. That it's still going around some 40 years later is a testament to how successfully it accomplishes its goal. Anyways, look out for another spooky urban legend.
