282 Gone Girl - IV

Daphne was quiet.

She was very, very quiet, and it was fucking frightening.

His mother had been out almost all of the night, and he had fallen asleep while waiting for her. So the next day, as soon as he woke up, he found his mother and told her what had happened.

He had stress worked the entire night until his body finally gave up and he had to go to bed. Even until then, she had not come home.

Gavin had been the one to wake him up and tell him that Daphne was awake and this was a good time to get your day started with the bad news he had.

Daphne was still sitting on her bed, the newspaper in her hand and a tray that carried her set of tea next to her.

It seems like she was still half asleep because it took her a long time to register what was going on.

"What," she kept the paper aside, "what did you just tell me?"
