Felix wasn't the only one who looked toward the door. All those gathered did so. Their reaction was similar to Felix's.

"A beautiful speech," praised the unexpected newcomer standing in the doorway. "Truly worthy of Meiden."

Krauze immediately shifted his eyes to Gustav, whose face was now the color of paper.

"It's not beauty that counts, but effectiveness," Gustav announced.

"It convinced me. I would cast my vote for you. Son."

Gustav did not even gnash his teeth. He was pale, but calm. Only his bright green eyes took on a strange, somewhat frightening glow.

Olaf Meiden entered the room and approached the seat designated for the chairman. He did not sit down, however. He looked around the interior like a farmer assessing his farm. He did not honor the people with a smile or even a glance.

Gustav guessed that his father would want to speak and sat down.
