195 David's Father Is the Best

"What are you looking at me like that?" his father asked, getting down to business. "Do I have something on my face?"

"No, just..." David grunted. "Are you seriously thinking that, or did you just get pissed off by that woman?"

David's father took a deep breath.

"I am a Catholic. I believe in God and in the teachings of the Church, but... don't you think some of these teachings are outdated? I don't mean the Bible, but the commentaries on it. After all, we no longer live in the Middle Ages and have a better understanding of human nature and biology."

"Well... yes."

David was unable to say anything more. He was totally surprised by his father's views. He had always considered him a bigger conservative.

"David, what are the Ten Commandments?"

"What?"

"God's Ten Commandments. The first one."

David had no idea what his father meant, but decided not to discuss it.

"You shall have no other gods before me," he recited.
