Chapter 18: Her Son's Coach

Melinda Leight watched as Caleb walked towards her as she finished her call for a tow truck. Her too-old-to-be-running vehicle was indeed not running. Carl had already left. Not that she wanted to call her ex for help. That would be the last thing she wanted to do.

With very little in her savings account, she didn’t want another expense, but now she’d have to have the car towed. And fixed. And pay for it somehow. She could pick up an extra shift somewhere, but then what would she do with Josh? She didn’t want to give Carl any reason to take custody of her son. It had been a battle and they were finally in a good place.

She figured with Carl’s new baby coming along, he might lose interest in having Josh with him full time. Melinda would’ve thought Carl would support her going back to school. When she was on her feet, she was going to go back to court to tell them she didn’t need his alimony anymore. Just the child support.
