1 Addy - The man who was

Folk music never was a wide scene in Broq. If you've heard of Broq, you'd know it's a city with a long history. But even in the old days, when the city was a nest for artists and culture, it was the classical arts that blossomed. Folk arts always were the lesser sister, and remain so even today.

That's probably why folk music is a well knit community. In the rest of the world, classical music was embracing folk music as a branch. The old sisters had to unite in the face of their younger sibling. Broq was slow, but it was getting there.

Not too long ago, a name was mentioned far and wide in the folk music scene of Broq. A rising star. A beacon of tomorrow. Addy. There was almost no one in the older generations – the teachers and the grand teachers and the artists and all who mattered at all – who didn't know of Addy. Addy wasn't a genius or a once-in-a-lifetime kind of rare talent. He was just someone with promise. Someone who was somehow far better than his peers. And someone who seemed to have endless potential, whose potential was growing every day. Everyone wanted to see just how bright he would shine, how high he would reach.

And then, Addy just disappeared. At first, everyone thought he was taking a brief break. Word spread that he was going to a renowned university for a masters degree. A two year course. Three years passed, and still there was no word. Everyone thought he was just busy in his new job and would eventually return. A few more years passed, and he was still gone. There was no word about him. Everyone wondered and mourned for the loss. Time passed and he was eventually forgotten.

Today if you ask anyone if they knew Addy, you'd get no immediate answer. Only a few of the older artists, who'd been famous and who'd retired since, still remembered the boy who never was what he could have been.
