11 MARRY ME, MISS SCOTT

CHAPTER 11… MARRY ME, MISS SCOTT

"Mr. Lancaster?" Selena mumbled.

What was he doing here?

It's only two hours since he left.

"Did something happen?" She asked and looked behind him. Bella wasn't there. Even his car wasn't there.

"Where's Bella? Where's your car? How did you get here?"

Timothy looked at Selena and shook his head slowly.

"Bella's fine. She's sleeping," He replied and Selena let go off the air she didn't know she had been holding.

"May I come in, Miss Scott?"

Selena nodded and let him pass. They walked to the couch and sat down across the other.

"I have a reason for being here."

Timothy stated and Selena's heart skipped a beat.

"W-what is it, Mr. Lancaster?" Selena asked.

Timothy sighed and squirmed in his seat.

"I'm not used to this so," he took a breathe and met her gaze. "I'll just go straight to the point."

"Sure, Mr. Lancaster"

"Marry me, Miss Scott?" Timothy said in one breathe.

Selena stood still.

Even though she knew that was coming, she still felt suprised and shocked.

"M-marry you?" She stuttered, wide eyed and Timothy nodded.

"Why?"

"Bella," Timothy mumbled sadly. "She lik- no, loves you."

"I don't understand, Mr. Lancaster." Selena said with a frown. How did he mean Bella?

"Miss Scott, I'm at a dead end." Timothy said, his voice was low and sad. "I can't explain it all now but, I promise I will do that sometime."

Selena shook her head.

"If you don't explain it to me clearly, how am I supposed to know what to say to you?" She asked.

"Okay," Timothy nodded. "I want my daughter and the only way to do that is to get married and Bella has sworn that it has to be you."

Selena's brows furrowed.

If she had been confused, she was totally lost now.

"Nobody's taking Bella away from you, Mr. Lancaster. What are you saying?"

"Please, Miss Scott. I'm asking you as a father. My daughter is everything I have. My world." Timothy muttered, looking Selena right in the eye.

His blue eyes weren't shooting daggers at her today. Instead, they looked like they were pleading with her. Sincerely pleading with her to accept her proposal.

Selena's feelings were conflicting greatly within her. She's barely known him but she would not deny the way she liked his company. Somehow, she wanted to agree to his request.

Right there, right then.

But…

"Mr. Lancaster," Selena called out softly and Timothy gave her his full attention. "Why should I agree to marry you? For starters, I don't know the least bit about you. I don't even know your name."

Timothy sighed and scratched the back of his head sheepishly. He just realized that he had never introduced himself to her. But, save that for later. Now, he needed to get her to accept his request.

"I'll introduce myself to you properly, Miss Scott. For now, please think about this." He said. To make the offer more enticing, he decided to add something.

"The marriage will last for as long as you want. Whenever you are satisfied, I will not stop you from getting a divorce. Also, we can keep it a secret if that's what you want."

Selena raised a brow.

His reply was too awkward. It even sounded like he was desperate. Selena was prepared to reject him.

But then, she thought of something. She wanted to be able to access her father's will so badly. But, to do so, she would need to be married legally.

An idea crossed her mind, she could marry him. While she helped him keep his daughter, she would finally be able to access her father's will without any hitches.

A smile painted on her lips and she nodded her head.

"Alright, Mr. Lancaster," she said. Her voice held a certain kind of determination when she spoke.

"I will marry you."

Timothy sighed in relief and unbeknownst to him, a sincere smile played on his face.

"Miss Scott-" Timothy began but he was interrupted by Selena.

"You should address me by my name."

Timothy nodded and started again.

"Timothy Reese Lancaster. CEO, Grand Conglomerate."

Selena chuckled and introduced herself.

"Selena Scott Rivera, Kindergarten class teacher. Former first class lawyer"

Timothy's eyes widened in suprise.

"You were a lawyer?" He asked and Selena nodded. "Why did you quit?"

"I didn't." Selena responded with a shrug. "I was laid off."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Selena." Timothy said, standing up to leave.

"I'll take my leave now. Bella didn't know I had gone out."

Selena nodded and walked him to the door.

"Say hi to Bella on my behalf"

Timothy pulled the door open and took a step when someone bumped into his chest. He hissed and looked up to find Rick.

Rick's eyes widened as he stared at his boss. Realizing he had just bumped into his boss, Rick began to apologise.

"It's alright, Rick. I was just leaving." Timothy said and stepped out. "Thank you, Selena. My assistant will be paying you a visit tomorrow."

Selena nodded with a smile.

"Would be expecting, Timothy."

Rick looked at the both of them in confusion.

How did his sister and his boss know each other? Why was his boss even in there house?

They watched Timothy wall out and a car pulled out from nowhere. He got into it and that's when Selena realized that he had come with a driver.

She turned to Rick who was just about to start pouring out his different questions and pulled him into the house.

"I'll explain everything inside!"

*****

"...and that's how it all happened." Selena said, concluding the last part of her story to Rick who was staring at her without blinking.

She said nothing to him and waited for him to break out of his reverie on his own.

"Are you crazy, Lena?" Rick whispered but Selena shook her head. He frowned and shook his head too. "You are crazy."

"If you are not crazy, why would you agree to marry a man you barely know?"

Selena shrugged.

"I will marry him, Rick." She said, as a matter of fact. "It can't be that bad."

Rick sighed and rubbed his temples. This sister of his would, someday, be the death of him. He knew that her mind was already made up. So, he didn't even try to dissuade her. He could only give her his full support. Besides, she was doing it for them both.

"It's okay. I'll be there for you, always." He assured his tenderly.

"But, he shouldn't even ever think of hurting you. I can burn down his company" Rick threatened and Selena nudged him playfully with a laugh.

"He won't," she assured him, not understanding why she would couch for him when she barely knew him.
